i very much doubt me and OH are entitled to the surestart grant before LO is here, we both work and im on mat.leave getting MA.

but ive heard from a thread on 3rd tri (but can't ask on there as the thread got locked i think or its disapeared ) that i can get it when LO is here if im getting CTC and WTC. ove over £545 (i think) a year .

i've done the online calculator on the hmrc site and it says i'll get roughly £103 a week tax credits in total

which is obviously over £545 for the whole year... so does that mean we'd get the grant, it would be a great help as were getting her cot after she is here as money has been tight .

as i was signed off work since may (due to work bullying me)... so i havent been geting any wages from them

I don't know personally, but if you phone the job centre then somebody there may be able to help. If you can get it then they would probably know where you get the form from too. It's worth a try. xxx

are you sure you worked that amount out right? im no expert but when i had 1 child and just my oh worked so i had no income i didnt get £103 a week in tax credits. im not saying you wont get the grant. i just would double check the amount. i could be wrong mind.

i did that on the HMRC calculator, i dont really understand that one tbh as they only do from now untill april amount, im to thick to work it out lol.... so most probably have done it wrong knowing me lol

i'll try the entitled to calculater to see what that says as i find that one easier to figure.

from april 10- april 11
i earnt £5195
OH earnt £8165

so total: £13,360

next year april 11- april 12
these are rough guesses as i was signed off work from may and TC told me they direguard MA as an income

me: £1400 (maximum)
OH: £11,000

so next tax year total £12,400

off now to do the entitled to calculator :)...i'll be back shortly

i wasnt sure what to put for housing as we live with my parents so dont pay council tax so put £0 and for housing i put owned outright as i wasnt sure if they'd started askingabout housing benefit which we wont need and are not entitled to anyway.

so on the entitled to calculator based on just 2010-2011 wages
it says were entitled to:

WTC: £34.76 a week
CTC: £59.36 a week

so a month according to that were entitled to: £94.12 a week total TC's

xx

The amount of £545 only refers to the child tax credits amount you receive.
If you get working tax credits too you would only be entitled to the Sure Start grant if you receive a disability element to it.

Oh no really :( I totally misunderstood it then :(

Is it worth still applying for it though, I guess there's no harm in applying their only either gonna say yes or in my case probably no

So for just CTC I'll still be getting well over £545
A year, does that still not count

Sorry this whole thing confuses me :(

Hi hun, You should get it no problem, You need to be getting over the 'Family Element' of CTC, which is the £545. They'll most likely refuse it until your Tax credits are sorted though so make sure you get all that sorted before applying, You'll only get 3 months to apply when bubs is here.

Hope that helps.

yep sounds like you will get it after baby is here and you get tax credits. tax credits and working tax credits are 2 different things. but i think £59 is the maximun tax credits anyone can get for 1 baby so im sure you will get it

thankyou :)

so when shes here... i'll get her registered, then do child benefit form, then tax credits and then lastly the surestart form

do i have to wait for reply from each one before i go on to the next one?
or can i do them all at once?

xx

Yup, Get her registered asap, when you've got birth certificate you send that off with the child benefit form. You should be able to send CB & TC away at the same time. If I remember rightly there was a box on the TC form to tick if you had sent off for CB but hadn't heard back.

Awww I see Thankyou hun, I really wasn't sure how to go about it all :/
Does tax credits get paid weekly/ 2 weekly or monthly?
Fingers crossed tax credits and child benefit will be sorted before xmas... That's what's really really worrying me :(

Well, I get mine weekly, but then other people I know get them monthly. Best thing to do when the time comes is give them a couple of weeks after sending the forms off then chase them up to see how far they've got.
