Surestart Grant

It seems to just be the same no matter how many children you have. Xx

I would have thought even IF it did go up for 2 kids then at most it would double. I get more than double so fingers crossed. I can but apply and see what happens. Would be nice to get it, would keep us in nappies and wipes for a looooong time :)

Thank so much for everyone's help :flower:

this goes off last years income aswel doesnt it? sorry to intrude x

shrimpy, sounds like you might, just get it signed and send it off anyway, they can only say no x

yeah sort of, it asks whether you're in receipt of tax credits now higher than the basic rate and tax credits always goes off your income for the last tax year so anyone applying now would give their income for apr 2009 -apr 2010 xx

Will you let us know if you do get it? I like knowing I was right :p xx

I should be entitled to this as last year I only worked half the year (Sept-April) and my earnings were just under 12 grand. Are my tax credits worked out on that figure then? Then next year they are worked out on this year (which includes all my mat leave)?

It is all so confusing yes :)

Of course :flower: Have a wee whiley to wait though and of course it falls over Xmas which will be a pain in the butt for posting :dohh: We will soldier on though :)

The basic tax credits is £545 plus a baby element of £545 (this scraps in April).

If you get £1095 or more on your award then you should be entitled. It only counts if it is awarded in the Child Tax Credit part, not the Working Tax Credit part though.

If one of you works full-time and the other is on SMP too then it's very unlikely you'll qualify unless you had a much reduced income last year!

Sorry, this isn't right. Me and my lovely hubby to be both work full time. When our tax credits were calculated they discounted £3900 because I was on maternity leave within that year. It still only put my earnings at about £12000 and my fiancé gets about £17000 and we just got it last week. Xx

If you get £1095 or more on your award then you should be entitled. even If you are both working & don't get any tax credits at the minute then wait until baby is born then apply.

Me & OH work both £17000 a year but once I had the baby then you get the higher rate for the 1st year of his/her life. and you have 3 months after LO is born to apply.
Me & OH got the grant. Worth putting in, worse they can say is no.

xx

I already have 2 little bratfinks both of whom are over 1 so I don't get the baby element so it would only be over the £548 for me :)

I also remember when filling in the renewal form after having my youngest a question about how much maternity pay you received as I think they do discount some of it as a previous poster said.

It's mad how there are so many different "rules" for essentially the same thing

Hopped over from 2nd tri. myself - first time mummy to be .. and was very confused about this myself .. Basically higher than basic element is if your on moe than £546 or something a year .. which is just over £10 a week .. But if u already have a child under 1 then you need to be getting higher than around £1048 a year, which is about £20 a week roughly.. so if you get more than either of those depending on if you have a child already .. then you should be entitled. . I was confused myself; so looked into this loads, and have discovered that as i dont have any children already, i dont currently get CTC but I will when babys born and because you can apply up to 3 months after babys born im going to apply then and just hope for the best! xx
