Taking holiday

I'm looking ahead here but how do you take holiday? I was hoping to take holiday leave before maternity leave. But how does it work in terms of accruing the holiday - is it pro rata? For example, our holiday runs from Jan to Jan. I am due in Feb and I am considering taking holiday from maybe end of Jan(say 2 weeks) then maternity leave to start after baby born. But will I be able to take that 2 weeks from my annual leave in Jan?

I understand what you mean (ie will you only get 1/12 of your holiday entitlement seeing as you're only working for January) but I don't know the answer. Just didn't want to read and run so best of luck with finding out.

Our holidays run January to January too and I'm finishing in July 10th but my company has given me my full quota of holidays for the year - not sure if it's just cos I work for a brilliant company though (they are!) or if that's the norm...

You are entitled to full annual holiday in the UK - because you are still EMPLOYED, they can't hold being on leave against you - so you get your full amount of holiday, not pro rata.
