Talk to me about Double Barreled Names.

If you want two first names (Double barreled names), how do you write it out? For instance, if you want the name to be Ella Rose Marie (Ella Rose is the first name, Marie [Mah-ree] is the middle name), would you spell it Ella Rose, EllaRose, Ellarose, or Ella-Rose? There are some pros and cons with each and im just not sure what the best way to do it is. If i leave it Ella Rose, then people would only think Ella was the first name and not use the entire name of Ella Rose. (because they would think Rose is a middle name).If I use the hyphen (Ella-Rose) im wondering how that works on legal documents or if it needs to be computerized. Im guessing the hyphen wouldn't be an option? Which probably wouldn't be that big a deal, except that if the actual proper name is Ella-Rose, then legally the name isn't correctly spelled. I actually like EllaRose spelling, but i think some people would think it's odd, and again the computerized items may lower case the R and it would read Ellarose, which again is not the proper spelling and matters if it's a legal document. Then there is Ellarose, but im just not sure it looks good, but im open.

What are your opinions? Thoughts? Ideas?

I personally don't like names with a '-'
EllaRose is nice but people may just think you have missed the space by mistake.
I think you will need to put in the hythen if you want two first names x

Those are my thoughts too. I dont really care for the hyphen either, which is why im so conflicted by it.
I appreciate your opinion because i see that your little girl has multiple names. Is her first name double barreled or is her middle name double barreled? Im just trying to get an idea of what people would read a name as that had more than just 1 first and 1 middle name.

Saying that Isabelle was going to be called Ella. It was between those two names, it took us a day to decide.

Her first name is Isabelle and she has two middle names, Rose and Iris. Neither are double barreled.

I think if you wanted Ella Rose to both be first names you would need to use a hyphen. If not people would probably presume Rose was the middle name x

I think you would have to put either Ella-Rose or Ellarose for it to 'read' properly. x

I would write Ella-Rose so that people know Rose is part of the first name rather than a middle name

I'd write Ella-Rose, just to save confusion when it comes to things like banking as they might think they've missed a space etc. Saying that, I know somebody who has a LO called Anniejane, and it's all one word so people don't just call her Annie. It works! And I know someone with a baby with a hyphen but everyone just uses the first name.

If you want the first name to be Ella Rose together then I'd say you need to do Ella-Rose (which I prefer) or Ellarose. I think EllaRose looks like a typing error

I am pretty sure that using a hyphen is fine on legal documents and no problem using Ella-Rose

Pretty much what everyone else has already said, for me you'd have to use a hyphen to get it to read properly. I know an Amy-Leigh and as far as I know her mum has had no legal problems with the hypen.
