Hi

We're going to Cyprus next month and taxi transfers to and from the hotel are part of the thomson package we've booked. However, the taxis don't provide a car seat.

What can we do? Our car seat weighs a tonne!

Their website says 'we don't provide a car seat but you can bring your own, this will form part of your baggage allowance'.

Maybe I'll have to buy a cheap lighter weight seat

When we took our son to cyprus he was only 8 weeks (my brother got married there) So we took his car seat and frame from his travel system and used it as a buggy so he had a car seat for the transfers.

We go to majorca next month and would rather take the pram attachment and the base as a buggy rather than the car seat but also worried about coach transfer.

I was wondering this too. We go Ibiza in July and have a coach transfer to and from the airport.

Some let you hire a car seat. Some airlines allow for car seats to be taken as an extra to your luggage. Some car seats can be used on the plane if you have an seat for LO.

We went with Thomas Cook to cyprus when my first child was 5 months. They let me take a car seat, buggy as standard, then 20kg for my suitcase. Call them and ask or read q&a on their website.
We are going to cyprus in a few weeks, this time with British airways and they let you take a buggy and car seat for any child under 12 plus your suitcase allowance.
We will be taking the baby's car seat and luckily as we are locals, my family is arranging a car seat for my 4 year old so I don't have to bring two with me!!

We have never took a car seat away with us as you say their to heavy unless your prepared to either pay extra or pay for an extra seat, LO has always been on our knee, this LO will be 9 weeks this time and will be on my knee for the transfer. Most taxi's and coaches abroad ive found dont provide them neither do the holiday company's x

We went to Spain last year when LO was 6 months old.

She was on my lap on the coach. You probably need to find out about the coach transfers (sorry OP I know you are getting a taxi). Our coach just had a lap belt which isn't going to work with a car seat anyway.

We never took a car seat to cyprus when lo was 9 months old. We had a coach transfer and as lo was under 2 there was no seat for him on the coach anyway. We also booked a trip on a coach and they told us on the way on that lo had to sit on our knee as he was free on the trip so no seat on coach. I did feel nervous but I suppose you dont take a car seat on a bus or coach in uk? Im not sure what id have done if we had a taxi transfer I dont think id want to hire one as you dont know what condition its in. If its not too much extra to take a seat id take my own, taxi drivers can drive a little crazy.

I take it he's in a second stage seat at home, but has he definitely outgrown his infant carrier? As long as the top of his head is under the top of the seat he's still safe to use it, even if his legs are dangling over the edge (my DD was over 2 by the time she outgrew it though we moved her before then for comfort) - would be handier for taking away if he still fits? :flower:

We're off to India at the end of the year, DD will be 13m. We won't be taking our car seat. DD is almost over the weight limit for her infant carrier now, and the car seat she is in now has to be used with a base. It's so heavy, would be too much to take with us. My parents will be picking us up from the airport once we land so I'm happier having her on my lap with my dad driving.
