Teat size

I went by the size 1 teats kept collapsing and Matthew was sucking on them really hard but maybe after 20mins had only took an oz and was full of wind. Changed to size 2's which were too fast and made him be sick so then changed to variflow which were fine until all the teats split (just read that tommee tippee had wrong instructions for cleaning your not suppossed to use bottle brush on the variflow ones)
Have completely given up on tommee tippee and am using Tesco's bottles with size two teats which are waaay better!

Snap! I love the designs of the Tesco wide neck bottles, so pretty! And I use Avent size 2 teats and these seem to do ok for Evie atm :)

As for changing teat size, I switched when they kept collapsing and it would take her an hour to drink a 4 oz bottle! Evie was around 6 weeks. Now she can drink a 6 oz bottle in 15-20 minutes ;)

im still not sure when to change... what do u mean by collapsing? im still usin size1 but its taking her longer to drink

as in when she's sucking the teat does it "cave in" in her mouth....i cant explain it too well :haha: the top part of the teat is squished into the bottom part or has folded over onto it type thing

hmm i was trying to think of a way to explain it but its quite difficult lol the actuall bit she sucks can get pushed in towards the bottle because shes sucking to hard. that doesnt make sense does it. if you saw it happen then you would no but if she isnt doing it then its not really a problem lol you can always try her on a bigger size if its too fast you will realise x

I Never realised that was bad:blush: or that 'collapsing teats' had a name... What does it mean when they do it, my 3 week old Little Boy does this sometimes ...

When baby is sucking on the teat, if it's collapsing, it'll go flat or fold in on itself :)

Jennifer89, if the teats do this and it's taking him a long time to drink from his bottles, it usually indicates time for a change in teat size.

Our avent teats collapse sometimes but we find it's usually because we've screwed it on too tight!

hmm, ok ill have a close look next feed, i dont think they are doing it.. but she is taking a while to finish, but i just thought that by nearly 2 months she wud wanna be on size 2 teats by now?

Lucy is now on Avent size 3 teats as she kspt on playing with the teat in her mouth all the time and it generally started taking too long for her to finish as she was getting tired of sucking I think!!!!

Now she's great

Amy xxx

think ill see if i have ay size 2 teats and just try one and see if it makes any diff or if its too fast. x

That's probably the best way to do it

Romilly has been on size 2 teats since she was about 2 weeks old  She's still on them just now, and they suit her fine :)

I found 2 size 2, so i put them on, now i just cant remember what bottles they are on! oops, but i guess i would notice a difference in her drinking so ill be vigilant. x

What bottles is it you use? There will usually be some kind of marking on the teat. On TT bottles it's a number in a little circle, somewhere round the outside of the teat. I know Dr Brown ones have it on the inside, around the bit that fits inside the bottle (if that makes sense?)

Avent teats have similar markings too, they're very faint tho!

yeah its Avent theyre very faint arent they! I just dont like having to wipe the condensation or water residue off them tho cos it involves me putting my finger in it, theyre all made up u see, i think it was on big bottles and i only have 4 of them so will check x

I changed my LO onto Avent size 2's at about 8/9 weeks.

He was taking agesss to finish a bottle, at the start of the feed he'd suck like mad theN after a few oz's I think he just got bored of trying to get the milk out and gave up!

She just took her morning feed much better, must have been a size 2, she drank it how she used to drink bottles! think ill change up a size now!
