Hi,
I have been TTC for almost 3 years with not even a hint of a :bfp:
I have had the basic blood tests and a Lap and Dye (all normal so far), and hopefully now will start clomid soon. I have also had the day 21 tests done recently as well but haven't got the results yet. But my FS said that if Clomid doesn't work then my only option is IVF.
I was wondering if there are any other tests that can be done privately if not offered by NHS. I would really appreciate some info.

Hi
I know how you are feeling it seems to me to be taking forever and at low times feel it will never will. I have been on clomid for 5 months and no luck so far. I have got my last treatment next month. I have my next appointment with the FS on the 23rd Jan but been told I might be able to have Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is process whereby sperm are artificially placed in the uterus with the help of a catheter. This procedure helps to ensure that more sperm are available and able to access a woman’s egg, thereby aiding fertilisation and conception. Hopefully you will get your BFP soon and not need this treatment.

Has your DH had a sperm test? If so and all is well, you can pay for the more advanced test where they check for DNA damage and anti-sperm antibodies. If all is well, IUI would be your first option before heading into IVF.

Good luck :hugs:

Hi hunni

I have been trying for 2 and half years and I think I have pretty much had all the tests the NHS offers - these were:

DH had two normal SA's then the more detailed one that FJL mentioned.
I had day 2/3 blood test
Have had two day 21 blood tests
had a lap and dye
Had ultrasounds done on cd14 and cd21 for two months in a row to make sure there was a a follie and to check the thickness of my uterus lining - and also confirmed that the eggs were released by following this with a cd21 blood test. (i did have to beg for these ultrasounds but it was worth it).

the only test I havent been offered that I have read about is the post coital test - where you do the deed and then they check that the sperm can live / swim in your CM. it poss tells you other things as well and there are some more knowledgeable girls on here than me who might be able to give you more info.

My results have all come back normal and i have been told that once I have been ttc with no luck for three years I can go on the waiting list for IVF. We have not been offered IUI.

Has the Dr said why they are putting you on clomid sweetie - cos I thought that it was to help you ovulate and if you havent had your day 21 results back yet so dont know whether you are or arent ovulating then surely they cant make a diagnosis?

Bx x :hugs::hugs:

Hey there

Just wanted to say that if you do go on clomid, it can take a while for them to find the right dosage - my BF was on it for 6 months then they upped the dosage and she fell after that.

Fingers crossed :hugs:

Thanks everyone for the detailed answers. My DH had got the SA done, the numbers were not great but the FS said they were ok. So i will now try to get the more detailed one done, Any idea how much they will cost in the UK?
Is it true that they don't prescribe Clomid if i do ovulate on my own?
Thanks again.

Hello there,
i am in exactly the same boat, had all the tests done, HSG was clear, partner's swimmers are fine,so, they offered me clomid too-I thought long and hard about this,as, although they thought that there was a chance i might not be ovulating every single month, the lowest progesterone result i had was 26,....which is pretty good,so, i decided that 3 cycles of clomid on the off chance of a 'might' just wasn't for me, plus, my partner works away for 3 months at a time and is only back for 3 weeks, meaning that the window of oppurtunity would probably be missed when we worked out my dates-I'm now awaiting my first consultation to go straight to IVF- Hope the clomid works for you and you get that bfp soon
xxxxx

Our detailed sperm tests (we've had 2) are just under $500, which is around 150pounds I think. Prices might be heaps different over there though.

Hi did the dr offer you only 3 cycles of clomid as opposed to 6? Was this in essex? If you dont mind me asking which consultant are you under? I just heard that some consultants are a pain where they just send you for pointless tests.......
