The Disabled Mummy's Group

I'm good this evening, apart from naaaasty stomach pains from my bloody diclofenac pills :( I'm on a cocktail of pain killers and side-effect counteracting stuff, and this morning I forgot to take my Omeprazole (which stops the Diclofenac from destroying my stomach) and hey presto, I have nasty nasty stomach cramps this evening! :dohh:
Aaaanyway, that aside, I've not had a chance to sort out blinkies yet I'm afraid, but I'd love to make us some :happydance: I'll try to find a spare moment tomorrow to have a little go at them!!

Anyone else who has chronic pain with their disability, did you find you had a mega flare-up after your :baby: was born?? I really did, I'm still right in the middle of it (I wonder if it will ever go back to how it was pre-pregnancy...) and I just hate taking all these pills! I'm trying Shiatsu and Acupuncture (starting this week) so hope they help some! Anyone else tried either of them for pain control?

Lots of love to all!

I'm so sorry your in pain it must be awful for you.
My disability never used to cause me pain but since Tyler-Jay + putting on the extra weight my hips and legs and knees, [I walk on my knees because im in a wheelchair] are really killing me they seise up more, and i get more often back aches, Even bending over doing bubbas nappy gets my back aching now and im only 18. i think pregnancy took a strain on my curvature in my spine...
:hugs::hugs::hugs:
To you all take careee

Abble, be careful with what you are doing with ur back etc, it could cause more pains.

Shadow, I am sorry for your pain! :hugs: xxx

I am great everyone, I am dying to have this baby out right now as I am starting to get fed up!!! As the lower back pain keeps constantly on and off all the times which annoying me!! Felt like as if I have been laying on the back too long! And the head is down and keeps getting a sharp pains down there!

In case if anyone don't know about me, I have a disability - Deafness! With Sign language. I goes deaf since the birth due to German Measles that me and my mum had. My both ears are stone dead but if I am wearing my hearing aids I can pick up a bit of the sounds.

Hope everyone doing well with their babies! xxxx

Hi there hope your well i dont think we have chatted before ! I have to admit i picked up on your message as i am about to begin training for my CACDP level 2 in sign laqnguage !

Could i ask is you partner hearing ? I am gonna go nosey at your journal !

hope everyone is well xxx

Nanaki, I remember you telling me about your deafness before I think, I think I asked nosey questions about whether you'd be teaching baby to sign etc... hehe!

It's a good idea I think to remind each other what our disabilities are, so here's me:

I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, which is a fairly rare connective tissue disorder: My body makes faulty collagen, which is in skin, hair, joints, ligaments, blood vessels... pretty much everywhere... My main problem is my joints: I am hypermobile (very bendy!!) with very very loose joints, so I dislocate lots of joints regularly doing nothing much at all. I also get horrible chronic joint pain (some of my pain is a lot like arthritis but I get it in any joints, not just hands and feet). I also get dizziness from low blood pressure cos of my loose blood vessels and chronic fatigue because my body has to work pretty hard to hold everything in place all the time  So my partner is my carer and I use a wheelchair. In fact, next week I'm getting a brand new Samba Lite electric wheelchair; I'm so excited!!!

Would love to hear about your conditions ladies, if you'd like to share... I think I will remember some of you a bit better from our old group if you mention your disabilities :winkwink:

Hope you're all well, I'm not too painful today which is lovely :) My boy is 2 months old today and we're gonna take him swimming for the first time this week cos he looooves the water when he has a bath :) can't wait!!

Wow! Abble, to answer your question, yes I am going to teach my baby sign language that is how I communicate with other deaf people and hearing people with sign langauge. Abble, you aren't being rude and you are showing the interest! :D

Steph, thats great for you to start the CACDP level 2 in sign language, good luck for that!! And my husband is also deaf and does sign but he can hear the phone and talk. But not talk to someone strange he dont know it would be hard for him to pick up what they say, and he only talk to his family on the phone. Steph, you can have a peek at my journal! :D xxx

I don't know if I class as disabled I have m.e/chronic fatigue syndrome! Had it since I was 16 with a break for a year then a bad relapse! I also have bad PTSD and panic disorder! Hope every one is ok! X

Yay I'm so glad loads of people are here, I liked chatting to you all on the old thread :)

I can't believe how fast time goes! Chaise is staying with my mum for the first time tonight, so me and OH are just chilling out.

I reply to Shadowrats question to us all, I have M.E/CFS and mental health problems. I can walk, but not very well, cus I broke my right leg 4 years ago and have got drop-foot in my left!!
Is anyone else who's babies are a few months finding it difficult as their baby gets bigger? Chaise was 17lb 3oz a few weeks ago and I'm struggling to pick him up and carry him quite badly now. I sprained my neck 6 weeks ago through carrying him, but I've not really got any other options, using his puschair inside still means I have to bend and lift him out.

Anyway, I hope your all well and good luck to the ladies who haven't had their babies yet :)

:hugs: Welcome in honey! Of course you "qualify" hehe... I know just how disabling chronic fatigue can be, and panic disorder added to the mix must be very hard :nope: Hope you're managing okay, and that you have plenty of support set up for when your LO arrives!! Do you want to find out the sex at 20 weeks, or will you be "team yellow" ? I'll bet you're excited about :baby: :happydance:

Is anyone else who's babies are a few months finding it difficult as their baby gets bigger?

YES. Vincent is only 2 months now, but he is a BIG boy for his age (very "tall" and healthy and strong!) and I am really starting to struggle. I hate it, but it's reached the point now that I have to call my OH to pick him up for me or carry him somewhere for me. Sometimes I push myself too hard, like at his bathtimes, because I just can't bear not to have the magical experiences with him and really want to be a "hands on mum". I love my boy so much, it's really hard when I have to constantly ask my OH to do everything for Vince... But I try to make up for it in other ways, like our most special bonding time is bedtime when I swaddle Vince up, because I lie him on the spare bed and I can sit beside the bed and lean over and talk to him for a while, he always smiles and talks back to me at those times  I love it :)

Were going to find the sex out my 20 wk scan is 3 weeks of can't wait! My oh is brill and really surpportive and so is my mum! Fx

Yeahh deffo! i think that sooon i just wont be able to carry him its just too dangerous and not worth the risk. Tyler was weighed 2 weeks ago at 17lbs13oz!!
Due to my disability i have never been very confident to lift or carry him, because i walk on my knees very unbalanced and i have twisted wrists and hands backwards and i have dislocated shoulders and i cannot bend my arms at the elbo myself because i just dont have the muscles, but i do my best but i think by christmas i will have to stop carrying him all together.
I think my best bet at the moment is his sheet i carry and lift him init like a sling? if you get me. i just feel a bit safer like that.
Ok now to answer Shadowrats question, hmm... describing my disability is soo hard because its rare so until youu see me its very hard to understand. This is a very breif explanation from my preggo journal...
I am in a wheelchair because i was Disabled from birth, i have a condition called Athrogryposis which basicaly means i lack movement in all four of my joints and cannot walk so i am wheelchair bound outside but inside my home i get about on my knees and am able to do everything, anyone else does in my own unique way :) [Arthrogryposis means crooking of the joint. It comes from the Greek "arthro-" (joint) + "gryposis " (crooking)]
But basicly its all four of my joints are twisted and so is my pelvis and i have a dislocated hip, perminatly dislocated shoulders, buckle knee caps fixed in different bent angles meaning i cant straighten them out completly, ermm and a slight curvature to my spine.
I know that sounds like alot but it sounds worse than it actually is, i walk on my knees i climb the stairs i dont look severly disabled or anything [i dont mean that to sound offensive] im just trying to explain you know :dohh:.
Ok so enough yabbering on from me.
Anyone here suffering from PND?, i saw my health visitor and she has said i need to get myself proffesionally looked at as i took the test and anything over 10 should be looked at properly and i got 23. i feel dead alone :-(.

oh sweety do not feel alone we are here and do feel free to PM me anytime!!

Just a thought for those ladies who struggle to hold bubs - i kjept kieran in baby grows till he was nearly 3 and used them to pick him up with ! i even used my teeth before ! I had my arms in cast !!! (nightmare)

I too had PND and it sucked but after i "admitted it" (i hid it for almost 4 months) things got better !!

HUUUUGE HUGS xxxxxx

Steph, you'll have to show me again how to do the baby-gro thing, I really can't do it. I asked my O,T but they'd never heard of it.

And to answer the question, I'm from Derby :)

Do any mums/mum's to be go to any playgroups or parents to be groups? Do you find you get treated any differently? Me and Chaise go to a stay and play group, and tomorrow we're starting baby peep.
