The July 2009 Babies

Otter cut his first two teeth last Friday. Both bottom ones on the same day.

Anyone else pushing teeth through??

Max got two when he was four months, they are out at the front (you can see them all white) but not out at the bottom (not pushed through) which is weird.

aaliyah has none teething all the time so I wonder how long is gonna be

It probably won't be long before they all start actually pushing them through.

You're giving her huge chunks of apple, MB? I never thought of giving him chunks of stuff right now. I did give him some sweet potato from my dinner, though. It was thicker and had little chunks and he ate it up.

My little one is just starting to babble. This is the first time he's actually tried to make word sounds. Until now, he's been more interested in phyisical stuff.

G I give her chunks of fruit and she just sucks and gums at them to get bits off, I just started puttinng lumps in her normal dinner and she started to chew.

Aaliyah says, mumma dada nana and hiya. ashe just started crawling and sitting unadied its getting rather tirering :haha:

He has been sitting unaided for a while now, but he really is starting to crawl. He still hasn't gotten the cordination down and will get up on his knees take a few crawls, then flop down and swim on the floor, lol. I think he just gets too excited so forgets.

haha u just discribed aaliyah 2 a tea  she crawls if she can be bothered but 2 get some where fast she will swim :haha:

G, I give Otter chunks of food all the time. He doesn't get "baby" food at all. Last night for dinner he had a soft taco with all the fixin's and another soft taco shell with just guacomole in it. Gobbled it all up!

Otter just started babbling like that in the last couple of days. He actually carried on a conversation with his daddy yesterday! It was so cute! Made me wonder what he thought he was telling daddy about. haha

He just cut his bottom two a week or so ago, but has been eating entire adult meals (in portion sizes for him) for ages.

They don't need teeth to chew... gums do quite well. It takes him a bit longer to gum things into smaller, mushy bits, but he does it really well. Softer things like fruit and steamed veg he bites and chews as well as if he had a full set of teeth. Meat he sucks on until it is soft enough to bit off pieces and swallow. Bread he bites/tears bits off with his gums and chews and swallows them pretty fast.

All part of Baby-led Weaning. He manages really really well. He even prefers to feed himself and doesn't want to be handed things ... and don't even try to put something in his mouth! He will turn his head and look at you like you are nuts! :haha:

Oh, and specifically the taco... he opens them up, takes out the inner bits with his hands, eats those and then picks up the soft shell and eats that separately.

Wish we could let Max eat with us but that would mean having dinner three hours earlier, lol! Hubby doesn't make it home from work until 7pm most nights so we usually eat after Max is in bed. I let him have leftovers sometimes the next day if it can be properly re-heated. I must start varying his diet some more. Still have a phobia about him chocking which I know is an over-reaction as he's 7 months now.

I'll have to try him with some peeled apple chunks. I don't want to fully wean him until a year, though, because we don't eat a lot of variety right now.

wow he sounds like a right pro,

sarah I was the same with chocking but merv just lets her get on with it, she has only just started guming parts off and swollowing :) Im contantly going to merv she chocking and he says she not, :dohh: and he is right all the time she just giggles after and feels all proud of her self :)

Yeah, I'm worried about him choking, too.

We thought we had his room baby-proofed, nothing he could choke on, yet the other day he managed to find the one thing in the room we missed that he could choke on, and had obviously been in his mouth. I was so glad I got it before he DID choke on it.

god that must be scary, yeh aaliyah is constantly finding things to put in her mouth :dohh: watching her constantly and she is soo quick its like a constant race and trying to be 2 steps in frount all the time lol
right im off for a  tired

G, don't start with apple chunks. :nope: Those are actually one of the harder things for them until they get the hang of eating those types of foods. It is too hard and they will almost certainly gag on it... maybe even choke.

Start with steamed veg -- like carrot sticks. Or sweet potato sticks. Asparagus is also usually a hit. If you'd rather start with fruit, pineapple rings are good. If you really want to start with apple, then bake it a little bit until it is a bit soft... not mushy, but slight soft, iykwim.

Also, if you are worried about choking (which we all do) make sure you know the difference between gagging and choking. And let them work it out for themselves if the start gagging. If you start banging on their back or trying to dig a piece of food out of their mouth, you can make it worse.

However, if they truly choke, then they need help.

:hugs:

Man, Tiger, I can't believe you've already got another on the way!

So in case of chocking I gather we'd give a little thump on the back and if that didn't work, try and dislodge the item with our fingers? All a bit scary!
