The Ramblers

I'm an internal communications specialist. Think i'll go back there for a while then try and go back to being a personal assistant. The last time i was a PA it was so involved and interesting i'm worried i won't like a 'normal' pa job. I just dunno what to do! Wish i was a teacher!

Dopey, what sort of work do you do if you don't mind me asking? Three days a week is a good comprimise though I suppose....I'm sure it won't be as bad as we all think, perhaps we will find it more relaxing lol. What are you all doing for childcare? Poppy will have to go 5 days per week in nursery/childminder... so annoying that I'm going to work 5 days a week to pay half my wages for someone else to look after my baby. :(

Mil is gonna have Rhys for 2 days, dont know what I am gonna do if work dont let me do a three day week

Have you asked them (work yet)? Id like to do part time but it's just not gonna happen. Also with the hols I get it might be cheeky to ask. :haha:

My MIL lives too far away and I dont really want to leave Poppy with her ( dont think they are well enough themselves). Likewise with my dad. I'd trust my sister but she works full time also as a teacher. And my mum died when I was 21 (Id trust her totally).. so Its nursery for Poppy. I guess it's good for them though... and Ill be finished at work by 4 oclock and get lots of holidays<----- me trying to convince myself.

Not yet hun, I am writting a letter next month to get flexi working hours

Dopey whats a internal communications specialist

It'll be nursery for A too. Does anyone know - what could i do if work refused me p/t hours? I wouldn't be able to afford childcare for full time

That sounds like a clever job!! :haha:

The best thing about working in a school is definitly the holidays. Ive never not been off for summer.. Went to school, then uni. then always taught/worked in schools. It would be a shocker iff I got a different job!

It's a tough one Dopey, as you have a legal right to ask them to consider giving you part time work but they don't have to offer it.

could you tutor part time/flexible for extra cash? depends on your qualifications... but..Ive been looking into this.... for some extra money. Although i am a qualified teacher, ive enquired and for many tutoring companies you dont have to be a teacher. You just need one qualification higher than those you want to teach. ie someone with a degree can perhaps tutor GCSE'S (in a relevant subject)

I've only got GCSEs and life experience! Haha i have worked at the same company for 8 years and worked my way up to a job that i would probably need a degree to get elsewhere. Shot myself in the foot really. Oh well! Haha

You should still enquire about something like that if you're interested.... Usually experience means more than qualifications actually. Its so difficult.. you try to do your best, going back to work, but its not actaully do-able. Sometimes I think I'd be better of claiming benefits.

I might look into it. I'd like to do some kind of mentoring or carer work or something. Only problem is my bloody mental health and the fact i live to my means. I simply can't afford to take a lower paid job! Rubbish.

Susie, do schools have anything like an office manager?

Yeh they usually have an office manager, headtachers PA, receptionist, admin, bursary workers etc. You should send your CV off to as many schools as possible if that type of work interests you. Also join a supply teaching agency (that also deals with other school staff) e.g capita - you can get day to day admin work from them ie working in a school office; think its about £60 a day. You can work when you want then x

Cool, i might do that. My experience would probably suit an office manager or pa. I was thinking of being a contractor for communications/staff morale/reward schemes but it would be so difficult to get established!

Morning all, I am so proud of Rhys slept 10 - 7 last night

Susie, what did you want opinions on? I passed out last night! :haha:

That's great missy. Think he could have a word with A? :)

I wanna know to Susie lol

Do you think its a problem that he has started sleeping though but always has a soaking nappy in the morning cos I am not gonna wake him to change it

Try a night nappy? I don't use disposables but i think you can get some for night time.

Thanks hun I will look into that

What you up to today, gonna take Rhys to get weighed if he ever finishes this bottle lol he is half asleep but wont let me take it out

I'm doing the same this afternoon. Need to get a signature on my maternity grant claim :)
