Things to buy for baby

Great thread, I've been wondering what I should buy, I don't have a clue!!!

I find it easier to think what I wish I hadn't bought lol! My main advice is don't go mad with cute clothes!

For the first couple of months I was getting used to the chaos that comes with being a mummy to a newborn, and though we had bought a million pretty pink dresses and outfits etc, she LIVED in babygros/sleepsuits 99% of the time. I really only needed a good number of sleepsuits and one or two *posh* outfits and a jacket. Everything else I bought was a total waste of money. Baby shoes are really cute but so annoying they never stay on. Ditto jumpers because they hate having things pulled over their heads, get hooded jackets that zip up instead (buttons are a pain for coming undone)
Babygros/sleepsuits mean you dont need socks, get the ones that have built in mittens so you dont need mittens (because socks and mittens are FOREVER falling off so it just makes it easier, and you really want easy when youre so sleep deprived lol)

If breastfeeding you will spend a fortune on breastpads (at least I do with my super leaky boobs) if I could go back I would splurge on some reusable/washable breast pads because I swear I've spent well over £100 on disposable breast pads now at nearly 7 months in.

Get one bottle of Johnsons top and tail stuff - it does baths and hair and will last forever. It's the only thing I use on my LO and I paid something like £2 for a bottle and still have tons left! You don't need loads of other toiletries like baby talc, baby oil etc.

Never used nail clippers, get a baby nail file instead. Their nails are too soft to clip at first. Also never used a thermometer.

If in the UK, ikea does cheap washcloths that are around 19p each and I bought around 30 and used them for everything - mopping up sick, changing nappies on, washing faces and hands, putting under them in the trolleys at supermarkets to protect from germs - can't recommend enough.

Use the money you save from not overspending on crap on buying a nice digital camera and/or video camera!
