Hi As our TTC date is really up in the air and it will probably be 'hay lets have a baby now' I was thinking about having my implant out and going back on the pill. Really so I can just stop taking it and start trying straight away.

What do you ladies think?

I am almost in the same situation. Out NTNP date in next sept, and TTC in Jan 2013. My implant is coming out on Wednesday and we are going back to condoms so I can regulate my cycle prior to next fall.

If you are ok with removing the implant I don't see why not:).

hey hun its completely up 2 u :) my friend was on the implant and she decided she wanted 2 try 4 a baby so got it removed nd was preggas 2 months later :) i personally wud keep it in until ur ready rather then get ur body used 2 another contraception :) x

My implant is due to be removed in April 2012 but it's caused me a heck of a lot of side effects since it's been in. I'm thinking just to stick it out until April and then start TTC at that point.

It took me months to get my cycle back to normal after being on the pill. It'd probably be easier on your body just to have the implant taken out as and when it's needed rather than having to wait for your cycle to settle down again as apparently the implant is out of your system within hours of it being taken out.

Thank for you thoughts ladies. It depends on who you speak to on when it comes to how long it take for the implant to be out of your system, so not sure. Both the pill and implant suit me, been on both over the years and had no problems with either. Also my main thought is I'm really hoping we will be able to try when we go on holiday at Easter and I have heard that straight after coming off the pill you fertility can shoot up. So I was thinking I could time it right and come off the till just before our holiday and time it right. But really not sure if it will work!

If you are on the pill you will be more tempted to stop taking it whereas the implant you have no choice really so it's up to you. That's one of the reasons I initially chose the implant but it made me constantly bleed :( and now I have to force that little pill down every day :haha:

One of my friends had the implant in for 18 months and bled on/off for 17 of those months. It got to the point where she was so fed up that she convinced the practice nurse to remove it (apparantly they are really good at convincing you to 'persevere'!)

She was training to be a doctor at the time and made the last available appointment in her GP surgery and had it removed. She then went to the pub with her OH that night and had alot of unexpected drinks, ended up a bit worse for wear, one thing led to another and they had sex that night. As she had been with her OH for a few years, condoms were never an issue for them. She said she got lost in the moment and forgot she'd had her implant removed and yep - you've guessed it - conceived that night!

The nurse had told her to use protection for the next 7 days but that was the last thing on her mind!

So i'd say that if you get it taken out and the time isn't right to have a baby then make sure you don't forget condoms!!

I am from the US and not familiar with what an implant is. I have an IUD is that the same thing?

Oh god yes they are! I had mine fitted not long after DS was born and had to wait 6 months before they let me take it out even though I was practically depressed with non stop bleeding for that period of time. :growlmad: They have a 'wait for it to settle' line they LOVE to throw at you. :dohh:

No an IUD is the same thing as a coil that sits in the cervix if I'm right... the implant is fitted in your arm and releases hormones over 3 years.

Oh ok, yes I have an IUD and it sits in the uterus and its for 5 years. I get mine taken out next friday, and then we are TTC woohoo, its been a long 5 years :hugs:

No I love my implant I have no problem with it at all, thats not the reason I want it removed I was just wondering if changing it for the pill and stopping the pill the week before we go on holiday would allow me to have AF then be super fertile while on holiday, giving us loads of time to BD.
