Have you ever used the microwave to heat your bottles up? Is it okay to use the microwave? What is your preferred method to heat bottles?

I personally think the microwave might 'kill' all the 'goodness' if that makes sense! I don't even like to use the microwave when cooking so do not really want to warm bottles with it, but OH thinks I'm being silly :dohh: am I?

It's not recommend to use the microwave to heat bottles because it doesn't heat evenly and can cause hot spots and burn your baby. :flower:

You could always get one of those bottle warmers, they work great

I use the microwave to quickly heat water (takes 1 minute for enough to heat 1 bottle, 2 minutes for enough to heat 2 bottles) and then put the bottle(s) into the water until it's the right temp.

I have been using hot water in a dish to heat my bottles. Like this: https://i.imgur.com/eXDFMqG.jpg

I've been told about the hot Spots a microwave can cause in milk. Tempted to buy a bottle warmer but I'm trying to get supply back up to ditch the bottles so it may be a waste of money if I (hopefully) won't be using bottles for much longer.

I think I might just tell OH it's not worth risking burning bubby with hot spots from microwave :) x

Personally I don't feel comfortable using the microwave. We usually put the bottle in a cup of hot water, wait 5 minutes, swirl the milk, change the water if necessary, wait 5 more minutes, done. (for chilled milk, that is -- frozen takes longer, of course.)

I don't use the microwave.
I would heat up some water in a big tea mug and place the bottle in that for a few minutes.

Has your OH ever tried warming up soup in a microwave? Everything can be nice and hot except for that one ice cold spot.
I would never use a microwave to warm up a bottle.
When we still warmed DD's bottles, we just put them in to warm water for about 10 or so minutes. That was with breastmilk, thankfully DD has never had a problem with room temp formula so we never needed to warm that up for her.

if you're heating breastmilk it's not recommended as it can kill all the "good stuff" lol we just run it under hot water!

Like the others said it is best not to use the microwave. I pour breastmilk into it's own saucepan to heat it up on the stove.. works great.

I didn't even think of the stove, thanks! I might give that a go and see if it's quicker than letting it sit in hot water :flower: x

We boil a pot of water on the stove and then stick the milk in it. Not sure how long it takes as I'm rarely home when she gets a bottle but I believe it's pretty quick!

If it's breastmilk I always store it in plastic milk storage bags and when I need to warm it just sit the bag in hot water while I change him and have a couple quick snuggles then it's ready. Formula we use a bottle warmer. I wouldn't use a microwave because of hot spots as stated already.

Nope, never. We have a bottle warmer but you can also use a cup or bowl of really hot tap water (like the pic another poster shared).

Not only can the microwave cause hot spots in the milk, microwaving anything takes away/damages some of the nutrients because the molecules change and shift (that's how it heats so fast). Granted, almost all of them will go back to "normal" if you let it sit for a full minute after heating (ever notice how microwavable food directions always have you "let stand in microwave for 1 minute after cooking), but that kind of defeats the purpose of using it for a bottle for the purpose of speed.

Tell your OH it is absolutely not recommended.

My suggestion - invest in a bottle warmer :)

I put the bottle in a mug of boiling water, heats up in a minute or two.

Ive always used the microwave. Just shake really well to avoid hot spots. Never had a problem x

On occasions when I've been pushed I've used the microwave (particularly places like motorway services where certain large coffee chains...cough starting with a C cough... won't give you a cup of hot water to warm a bottle in for "health and safety reasons" - but will still sell you a cup of tea made with hot water - impeccable logic there!) just to take the real chill off a bottle very lightly and shaken well.

I have a baby that isn't that bothered by drinking milk at room temperature though (those ready to drink cartons before anyone flips their lid in indignation) so I can generally manage without. She prefers it warmed up but will abandon standards and expectations when milk's on offer!

As for standing in a cup of water - the MAM bottles apparently have issues doing that because of the vent in the bottom?
