Hi ladies :flower:

Just wondering if any of you ladies have an undractive thyroid? And if it affected you ttc?
The reason I'm asking if because I have underactive thyroid and I'm getting worried (after a bit of googling  ) that it might be affecting us ttc

Thanks in advance for any replies :flower:

Hi I was TTCing for 18 months with DS with an underactive thyroid. I do think it affected my fertility but then with DD I got pregnant while NTNP on the first time DH and I did the deed after DS's birth lol. So there is definitely hope.

My doc put me on thyroid meds. I was normal but the window for normal gets smaller when you're pregnant so she put me on the meds to have the best possible chance. If you're already on meds, you might inquire on whether its enough for TTC

I have an underactive thyroid...It had no effect on me GETTING pregnant, as I got pregnant every 4 months for a year, but it may have an effect on me STAYING pregnant. I lost each one of the three pregancies in the last 12 months. The thyroid issue was discovered when I was 5 weeks along with my last miscarried baby. So maybe too late.....

I started on thryroid meds then, and now am almost 6 weeks with #4 pregnancy... I hope and pray the thyroid was the issue and it is resolved now.

Best of luck to you on your journey...
:hugs:

Hi, I don't know if it's of any help but my mum has an under active thyroid and had no problems conceiving her 4 children. The last of her children being me whom she conceived at 37 whilst on pill!

Hello! I have an underactive thyroid and with my son had no issues with conceiving. I just found out I'm pregnant with #2 - it's the first time we dtd near ovulation and I'm breastfeeding too which apparently makes it more difficult to conceive.

Sorry about your losses Hun :hugs: really hope this is a sticky bean for you x

I think I'm pregnant, I'm having far too many symptoms to be a coincidence. Just waiting on my BFP. I have an underactive thyroid, I take 100mcg of thyroxine and 10mcg of thyronine and have a blood test at least twice a year. My last one came up normal, just before we started TTC. If I am pregnant then it happened first time!

I have an underactive thyroid... I must say, though... I've got a 20 month old, a 3 month old and am a month pregnant. I'm pretty sure I don't have any fertility issues. lol

I've heard that it's hard to get pregnant if your thyroid hormones aren't just right, though. I experienced it myself. I wasn't TTC with my first, but I wasn't so much preventing it, either. I went to a new endocrinologist about my thyroid, and he bumped me up on my medication by just a tiny bit. The next month, I was pregnant. Definitely make sure your levels are PERFECT. It should help out a lot with fertility.

You can go to a GP or an endocrinologist (in my case I would need to be referred to an endo due to insurance). Typically even while not TTC you're supposed to get levels checked every 6 months-1 year. I get mine checked every 6 months or more frequently if I'm having symptoms. All you do is tell them you have thyroid problems and you would like to TTC so want to make sure your levels are normal.

You would want to ask for the normal TSH test in addition to a FT4/T3 test that way it will alert you to any issues even if your TSH is normal. You can also ask to get your antibody count checked at the same time which could let them know if you have hashimoto's or grave's.

If you go to an OB/GYN or midwife for a general appointment prior to conceiving baby I think you can ask them as well, but I'm not 100% on that.

I am also hypothyroid. The specialist couldn't give me a definite answer about whether or not this caused my miscarriages.

If you do get pregnent though, seek immediate advice about your meds. I was told to immediately up my thyroxine dosage by 25mcg, and some people are told by 50mcg.

I think it can have an effect on fertility, but the info is a little hazy.

Good luck! :hugs:

I am a "pro" when it comes to under-active/hypothyroidism as I've had one for 10 years and I'm 26. I've been on meds for that long as well. It took us over a year of trying to get pg our first time, and I thought it was because of my thyroid, but then we got pg this time in 2 months, and wasn't trying nor preventing. If anything, HYPERthyroid has a higher miscarriage rate, but so does stress~ I think that hindered us more than my thyroid, which does hinder pretty much everything else lol. This time around my endocrinologist increased my meds once I got pg, and said it should have been increased the first time as well. But we had a healthy DD and all is well so far this time too. It's just all in God's perfect timing!

Hi, I just recently found out I had a mildly under active thyroid, my ths level was at 4.4 and they want it under 2 for a good healthy pregnancy. I was working with fertility docs because I had to go through IVF to get pregnant (DH has motility issues) and they obviously err on the side of caution with everything, but they put me on meds right away and actually just increased them again a few weeks ago. So, it could definitely be playing a role. Good news is that it's super easy to regulate so hopefully you'll have it under control in a matter of weeks. Good luck Hun ;)

Thanks ladies. Af got me this morning :( so def be ringing the doctors today! X

Does anyone know if having an underactive thyroid can have an effect once you are pregnant? Does it make you even more tired etc.
