I am wondering if the stick gradually turns into a positive or can you have a negative one day and a positive the next? I am using mine and there is not a 2nd line yet but I was curious to know if they start off light then get darker.

Thanks in advance ladies!

Hi,

I don't use opks, but you might try a search of the site. Someone may have asked the question before and gotten some responses. Best of luck to you :)

The test line on my OPKs gradually grew darker over the course of a few days. It started off as nonexistent but it was the same colour as the control line a few days later and even darker on the next day. That means that I ovulated within the next 12 - 24 hours.

the OPK has to be same colour as the control line....or darker...

if its lighter or non existent then LH surge hasn't occured.

im only doing mine this month but i did miss a week of testing...and mine only turned dark today...so means i gotta get into action

Thanks ladies! You know how it is when you go poas crazy :haha:

I think they get darker over time, but it could be possible that they just turn dark out of no where too! Like what was said above me, it doesnt matter what color the test line is if its not the same or darker as the control, it means nada.

It gradually gets darker.....to make life easy...go digital. Its a bit more expensive, but worth it. Once you pop it out it still has the lines, but I found it to be a lot easier.

I’ve used OPK “pee-sticks” and my experience has been that the second line is not visible until about two days before and then gets darker as I get closer. I have also had two days of what would be considered positive tests, so don’t be surprised if you have get a few positive results. But also don’t be surprised if you don’t get an actual positive result. It is possible to miss your peak. I’ve done that too.

Unfortunately, OPK’s are about the only reliable method I can use because I have always had a hard time maintaining a constant body temp. I run pretty cool and my temp can fluctuate greatly within an hour’s period. Tracking my body temp is a nightmare.

It also depends what sensitivity of test you use. Mine are very sensitive (20iu/ml) so whatever day of the cycle I test there is a second line, although usually very light to medium. I can normally tell about a day or two before it goes positive as it starts to go darker.
If your tests are not very sensitive, you are likely to have no second line or extremely faint ones until it actually goes positive.
Out of interest, I test every day because of irregular ovulation, and I notice I have two or three 'peaks' per cycle, although only one actually goes positive. So it's usual for me for a line to start going darker over a few days, get lighter again, etc.
xxx

Thanks ladies. I'm on cd12 so I plan to keep usin them everyday till I see something as I don't want to miss it!
