I've had diabetes for the last 19 years and had a successful pregnancy (DD nearly 3 now) but am really struggling with the hypoglycaemia this time - it was bad last time too, but then I didn't have a toddler to look after and if I passed out on my bed for a while it didn't matter so much (ok it left me very worried about the baby inside, but she was fine) This time there are two to worry about.

This time it is really taking its toll and making me more exhausted than I already am from being pregnant. My levels were as low as 1.6 this morning and I was up a lot in the night trying to sort out low levels too. Guess I just need some support and encouragement that it will get better and will stabilise somewhat and that baby is likely to be fine.

Didn't want to read and run. I've got GD and was keen not to go down the insulin route to avoid this sort of thing happening, I've had hypoglycaemic episodes most of my life and know how bad it can make you feel (I'm not normaly diabetic but have a family history of type 2, so expected this happening as I always suspected I had metabolic syndrome). Have you had a word with your midwife, doctor or specalist to see if you need to reduce your insulin dose? Blood sugar that low doesn't sound right, perhaps you need to have a chat about your diet at the very least? Good luck with getting something sorted xx

hey hun ive had type 1 for 15 years and 17 weeks pregnant, i was also worried about hypo's im having at least 3 a day and they are worrying the hell outta me i always seem to go low usually after dinner or in the night but im lucky enough for it to wake me up but like you i am always exhausted, your insulin requirements will go down the further into the pregnancy you get but at the moment i think its all trial and error and just try to keep a constant eye on your BS. im doing about 10 tests a day at the minute :( its poo i know but hopefully you will stop hypo'ing soon x

Thanks for the replies - I have managed to get tighter control now and with all the testing have not dropped below 2 again (I know that is low but for me it is still controllable and I can fix it) - its the outside help I need that scares me.

Good luck jmbbf - nearly halfway there! Are you hoping for a boy or girl? Hope you can manage to keep your sugars from going too low - these hypos are purely exhausting!

aw glad your finally getting there hun :)
i never thought id get here at all especially with poorly controlled diabetes let alone half way :happydance:
im hoping for a lil boy and got my anomaly scan this monday so hopefully i will find out then FX'd. only seen my consultant this am and things arent looking too good, my normal dipstick reading were way off the mark my sugar levels have been all over the place and are so not under control i had a reading of 4+ sugar 1+ ketones 3+ protein and 1+ blood, need to go for a kidney screen and see an eye specialist for neuropathy on the upside my HBA1C has come down from 11.7 to 7.7 :) i thought all these hypo's were a result of sort of controlled diabetes.... how wrong was i lol.
good luck in your pregnancy hun :flower:

I very recently discovered I have type 2 and I had go on insulin as soon as I found out I was pregnant. I was erratic the first few weeks, then had tons of scary hypos from weeks 9-12. My levels are much better now in week 14, but I've read that they'll likely start going high around week 16. BTW, I've read a lot of good info on the diabetic mommy website.

Yes, last pregnancy mine did start going a lot higher especially towards the end of the second trimester. Week 9-12 is supposed to be the worst for the lows and that is where I am now - I have passed out from it once in the last week 9the measurement before I passed out was 1.2) and am constantly waking up low (sugars about 2.4) which makes starting the day rather difficult.

jmbbf good luck with all the tests - you are doing a good job getting your HbA1c down. Mine went down from 9.3 to 6.9 first trimester last time - this time I didn't want a pre pregnancy HbA1c cause I knew it would be high, wonder if they will do one at the end of the trimester.
