UK Visas

According to the website, 95% of decisions are made within six months. According to an expat forum I'm on, decisions are taking no shorter than two months at the moment, but we won't risk it.

You can take it whenever you want within the two years. I'm applying in person for ILR at the end of Feb. There are supposed to be some major changes coming with ILR in April so keep up with the news.

eeekk hope its not a huge price increase! I have just paid of a credit card to keep clear to pay for the ILR visa

AS far as I am aware the changes are affecting those who apply for ILR through work visas (tier 1 & tier 2) basically work visas are no longer going to lead to the right to apply for ILR. The right to apply for IRL from a spouse visa is not changing, although you will no longer be able to apply if you have unspent criminal convictions (although in reality I guess people will just appeal through article 7 of human rights and get the visa anyway!)

I am here on an ancestry visa, my OH and I could get married but I'd rather get the ILR first and have a proper wedding rather then a quick one at the registry office

I passed my Life in the UK test!!!! :happydance:

Well done!! Was it fairly easy? I'm worried I will get a bunch of questions relating to how many people declared themselves Hindu on the last census or something and I always get those wrong!

The questions were easier than the practice ones. :) I'm sure you'll do fine! :)

I'm taking the Life in the UK Test on Thursday, and I'm SO nervous!

Then on the 23rd (the day before my birthday), I'm going to hand in my ILR app. in person. Yikes.

Make sure there is 48 hours between passing the test and going to the office. They told me this at the test. :flower:

Thanks! The test is on the 19th and I'm handing in my app. on the 23rd, so that should be fine.

FX'd you pass!!!! :) It's not actually that bad. We're going in on Feb 29th. My visa expires on the 17th March. Lellow sent me a huge list of what she and her DH brought when they went in person. It's best to go above and beyond what's required for the documentation.

Good luck! I am going on the 28th and really nervous as well.

Why would you have to get married in a registry office? My husband was here on a post study work visa when we got married & we had a big wedding in a church

because that is what I mean by the "quick" wedding, as in a very last minute thing. I want to get married in the next 2-3 years with a big wedding in a church (with all my family over from home) not in the next 12 months because I feel I have to be married in order to stay here, if it was something last minute i'd not have it in a church with none of my family around i'd have a register office one.
