Underhand tactics - formula companies

I guess I am asking...why is it the law? The government could run more BF clinics and their own ads, and I am sure that would be more effective. Provide knowledge rather than restrict it.

Because its alot cheaper to ban formula advertising and just print off a few breast is best posters then actualy do somthing productive like run extra bf clinics, offer more supprt, actualy get the nurse to come and give you advice on how to latch like they promised they would.

Ok, so what exactly is the law? All we ever hear is that formula companies can't advertise but it must go more in depth than that as they clearly are advertising.

It is against the law to advertise formula for newborns as it isn't as good for babies as breastmilk. The government (rightly) are trying to make breastfeeding the norm and for formula to be used as an alternative if it isn't possible. Adverts are full of lies and in each formula company competing in trying to make their milk look best, it eventually gets to the point where they are saying it is as good as BM when it isn't.

The actual law is that is cannot be advertised as a breastmilk alternative for babies under the age of 6 months x

As interesting as it is to hear people's various views and opinions, I'm finding it quite exhausting! My brain hasn't been used this much since before I went on maternity leave. I'm finding that I need to have a little nap every third page......
