Undersanding "trigger-shot" (HCG) ...

Hello Ladies -

I need help understandign the timing of when to makelove after a trigger shot.

- Dec. 4: (HCG) Trigger Shot, Negative OPK @ 12pm, Positive OPK @ 9pm.
- Dec. 5: Positive OPK @ 7am

The FS told us to make love on December 6 and 7 ... anytime .. morning .. night or whatever suits us. But make sure it's 2 consecutive days in a row.

I guess I'm just confused why we weren't told to make love on the day/night of the shot. Why were we asked to make love the following day after the trigger shot?

When does the egg release after the trigger shot?

Can someone explain .... please???? pretty please ...

Ovulation is 36-40 hours after the trigger shot.

I'm not sure why you weren't asked to BD the day of the shot, so the sperm are in the tubes waiting ready for the egg. I have only done trigger shots with IVF though.

I'm with Nell....I've been told to bd the two days following the trigger. So, if I triggered on a Friday I'd bd on both Saturday and Sunday. The egg should release around 36 hours after trigger, and at least for me I was told to trigger between 8-10pm.

Thanks ladies for your reply. Had my triggers shot on Sunday Morning and they told us to bd both Monday and Tuesday. PERFECT!!! Thanks for clarifying. I was confused as to why they suggested not to bed on Sunday. I just didn't want to miss the ovulation.

I have a question if that is okay ladies . My ob-gyn told me that he would only to a trigger shot before he would do a IUI?? I have read that many ppl get one and then BD on their own. Why would he say he only does it before a IUI? A little bit on my situation I am on 3rd round of clomid 100mg along with daily metformin. I had one 50mg round and one 100mg round of clomid w/o metformin and both failed (no ovualtion). I am really interested in a trigger shot but I want to do one w/o and IUI first. I don't know if I should ask my ob-gyn if I can do one alone! Thanks for any advice ladies

MrsCompass: my doc said you will always get a positive OPK after a trigger and not to bother wasting them, just fyi

Babyteach: you can definitely get a trigger without having an IUI, I had one last month. You just have to have ultrasounds to check for follicle size before you can have it. For me they checked follicle size (17 and above is good) and check my estrogen levels (needs to above 200). Then they gave me the trigger the next day. I believe there are other ladies in here who get triggers w/o IUI, maybe you should start your own thread to get more answers.
