Unexplained infertility support thread

I wasn't offered a lap but if I had been I would have taken it.. Just so I knew my envies would have somewhere nice to implant!

Just popping in to say Hi! I disappeared during the we.. I was freaking out because Duo chart was not showing any signs of ovulation.. I have not ever had a recorded anovulatory cycle so far so I was going mad... But I guess ovulation was just delayed this cycle.. doesn´t happen often, so I´m hoping it makes a difference somehow...

I also had a Lap and HSG and nothing seemed wrong.. I do have a myom though, but all the FS have told me it´s of no importance at all... It makes me wonder anyway.. But when I have asked if they could take it out, they say the scarring of an operation would be of more effect than to leave the myom there... Do any of you have or have had myoms?? Just wondering...

I hope everyone has a nice start of the week.. :hugs:

Hi all. :flower:

Thought I would post on here and say hi as after our last round of tests we now fall under the unexplained category.

At first we thought we were dealing with a low count and morphology from the 2 SA my husband had done but the third test was apparently fine. My ultrasound and HSG came back clear and we have been put forward for IUI.

We have been TTC since September 2010 and have our next appointment towards the end of next week. I'm not sure if there is a long wait for IUI or if we get to try it next cycle. If we get to try the cycle after our appointment then our first go with IUI will be in March.

Hi stork, sorry but I don't know anything about myoms. Best of luck though honey!

Lou- were u offered a lap at all or did they recommend straight to iui?

There hasn't been a mention of a lap so far.

Our last appointment with the consultant was to go over all the test results and that was a few weeks ago. We were then booked in to see a nurse (I think it is the nurse we see) about IUI and that appointment is late next week.

I haven't read much about a lap - would they still get you to have one if the HSG was clear?

I'm not too sure Lou, I don't think they would in the uk on the Nhs (state health care) due to costs but unsure about other countries or if you go private. Some people seem to think Laps are good to detect problems that may not show up via ultrasounds or an hsg

Hi.. I just wanted to know how everyone is doing this cycle.. Are you doing anything different?? Any FS appointments, using clomid?? I would like to know where we are all standing and what we are proactively doing...

I use CBFM and DuoMonitors... Nothing else for the time being.. Did 2 rounds of IUI in the past w/o success..

I´m right now in the TWW so just going crazy..

Big hug to all...

Hello girls,

I'll be joining you.... Husband and I went to see the FS yesterday, I had an internal ultrasound, which was all clear and we could see my little eggs in my left ovary. Then we had the results of our 21 day blood tests and SA, which were also clear.
I have been booked in for an HSG and a day 2-6 blood test, but he is convinced it will come back all clear... so we'll then be put on clomid for 6 months, and then if that doesnt work, referred for IVF which we can pay for privately or wait for the NHS.

If any of you girls have gone privately in the UK for your investigations, can you please let me know a rough cost for your clomid tablets??

And to make matters worse, I have just missed the date for the blood test, and it looks highly unlikely that we'll get in for the HSG this month, so it will all have to be rushed at the end of feb, as we are going to New York at the end of feb too. Arrrghhhhhhhhhh

xx

Hi stork, did you try iui with injectables at all? I've heard that has good success rates. As for me, I don't think this is the month, could be wrong and should stay positive but boobs hurt, creamy cm- my typical pre af signs :(

Hi ladies, I had a HSG done and when I went private to what I thought was to get clomid but ending up a paper filling appointment for IVF and a scan which cost me £230, the consultant was against me taking clomid as I O on my own and she said that it could have an adverse effect on my fertility. She also was not keen on me getting a lap as it could cause complications. I have not been offered IUI on the NHS and really can't afford at the moment ot pay for it ourselves. So it's waiting for IVF for us. That will be 12 months! :growlmad:

Hi Irish, has your gp suggested clomid? What kind of scan did the private clinic do? Do you have regular periods and good ovulation evidenced by scans and progesterone level blood tests?

Well ladies, I guess it’s time to join this thread. My husband and I have been TTC #1 for 20 months and are unexplained. Hubby’s SA is awesome, my HSG in Oct. 2011 went well, all my bloods are great, 27-28 day cycle, and I ovulate every month around cd 13 or 14. It so frustrating being in this category, isn’t it?

This is month 4 on femara, and we just had IUI #3 on Tuesday. This month I injected Bravelle cd 9 and Ovidrel trigger on cd 11 before the IUI, and will start progesterone suppositories tomorrow, all for the first time. I think I’ll start testing the trigger out next week some time.

I really hope we are successful because the dr. has recommended IVF if next cycle is unsuccessful. That will probably run around $15,000 (I’m in the US), and we’d much rather use that money on a child…not to make a child!

Fingers crossed for us all!

hello :flower:

welcome buckles :) its good that you got clomid I hope it does the trick!!

I thought that the actual cost of clomid was cheap.. but the monitoring might be expensive...

what im doing at the moment to be proactive is hopefully having a hsg, its cd 1 today.. well i have spotting and loads of pain ouchy! next friday will be cd 8 and i really want to have it done then as we are going away skiing next saturday so i hope it doesnt interfear with the hsg!

allso we are trying to decide what to ask for in a clinic, one thats 4 hours away with a great reputation.. or a local ok one.. not so great a reputation.. but not bad.

happy weekend everyone :) :hugs:

I forgot to ask before…has anyone had a lap to check for endometriosis? I have not, and my RE doesn’t want me to have one yet, but I wonder if I should. My mom had a mild case of endo, which was discovered during a lap (she struggled to conceive for about 13 years before having me, and was also unexplained). I don’t really have any endo symptoms, but I know it can be symptom-free. Thoughts?

hello s08 :flower:

we posted at the same time! it really is a super frustrating condition... nothing to fix :(

I really hope the treatment you are having does the trick and you can save that money to buy things for your child :)

I havnt had a lap, even tho i do suspect endo as i have very painfull periods... id say if your mum had it it would be good to push for a lap as it is genetic.. my sister has endo, but she is adopted so no blood ties.

Hi mk8, no my GP didn't suggest clomid. I don't see my GP anymore about my fertility as he did all the tests he could and then referred me to FS. I have had all my tests done, CD3, CD21, AMH, Rubella, General screening etc and they are all fine. I do have high prolaction which was detected years ago before I met DH but they have that under control now with meds. DH has had two SAs and they are all fine too. I have had scans, HSG and smears and they are all fine and I ovulate and I have a regular 28-32 day cycles.

The scan I got done was just a normal internal scan which I got done before on the NHS but my bladder was full and they could not see my right ovary but were happy with my left one. But inside of asking me to go pee so they could see the right one they just left it. At the private scan, the consultant seen a very tiny cyst on my right ovary but she was not that worried about it and ask me to come back to get another scan in a few months to check in under the NHS which was in January and no cyst was detected.

I was just told that I do not need clomid as I ovulated on my own and that it could have an adverse effect on my fertility. Although after getting my CD21 test done I remember telling my doctor that my cycle ended up being one of the longer ones and the CD21 test was done based on one of my shorter ones. He had said that it could mean that my result would have been higher and he was happy with that and said that if it had of been 30 then he would have done a retest. I can't remember my result but could check that up but not sure what he meant there.

Sorry, really long post there but how is everyone?

My consultant said that she would not recommend a lap as it could cause complications and would try to avoid as best as possible but if there is a history of it in your family then I think it would be something I would push for. xxx

Hi all! I'm unexplained too.

I'm 30 & DH is 37 we've both checked out okay. His SA was fine, my HSG was clear, I had CD 3 & 21 bloodwork and an ultrasound and bloodwork the day of my pos OPK to check for follicles. Everythings fine. My FS said she doesn't do laps for unexplained because she claims they haven't been shown to up the odds too much. We started at the SA in September and have had 1 unmedicated IUI so far. She pretty much gave us the option to do whatever we wanted treatment wise.

We're currently on hold for treatments because I'm in the last few months of my masters program. I decided that to give the next IUI the best possible chance I'd wait til after graduation when I am *hopefully* less stressed. DH is kind of trigger shy when it comes to meds because he is terrified of multiples. I don't feel comfortable taking clomid until he's comfortable with me taking clomid, but that will probably be the first step up. We're kind of in discussion now about whether to take clomid this summer or to try a few more unmedicated IUIs. The stats for unmedicated IUIs I've found on the internet are pretty dismal, but the states for unexplained infertility seem pretty dismal as it is anyway. The way my FS explained the unexplained fertility to us is that there 'probably is a reason' they just don't have a way to test for it yet. So she thinks IUIs are worth a try because for all we know there may be a cervical mucous component or something that we don't know about. Our big sit down meeting with her we kind of decided on a less aggressive treatment plan given that I'm only 30 so we technically have a few years to try the lower cost options.

Like some of you have commented already, I live in the US and we'd probably never be able to afford IVF, so hopefully something lower tech will work? This has been a WAY too long wait though.

Glad to see there's other unexplained ladies on here.:hugs:
