Finally got my urine test results and it seems I do have an infection. It is soooo painful  It hurts when i walk, when i pee and when i sit. There doesn't seem to be anything i can do to help the pain. I have been prescribed some antibiotics.

Has anyone here had a urine infection? Is there anything I can do to make it a little less sore down there?

Thanks in advance xxxxx

Drink drink drink drink drink...

Did I mention drink?

You can try cranberry juice (real stuff, not concentrate!)... this combats the bacteria causing the infection, and the vit C increases the acidity of your urine which helps too.

Blueberries have proanthocyanidins to combant the infection by preventing bacteria from attaching to the walls of the urinary tract. Dried, fresh whatever...

Drinking will help keep the tract flushed of bacteria, and will keep your urine diluted to decrease pain.

You can try general pain meds paramecetol/tylenol.

If you're having spasm like pain, take an ibuprophen which will relax the muscles of the urinary tract sphincters which are in overdrive due to the infection and are causing the spasm pains.

Oh, and remember to drink.

Urgh Im so sorry hun, water infections are one of the worst things ever :(

Drink LOTS of water. And cranberry juice if you can stomach it. Although Ive always found that antibiotics kill the pain off pretty quickly.

Feel better *hugs*

I know how you feel. i have had 2 of the bloody things since falling pregnant and i was in agony. i couldn't walk and was crawling on the ground (no exaggeration). hubby had to help me out of the car while a nosey neighbour watched (!) - i never, ever want another one again.

drink lots and rest - remember to take your antibiotics!

Ibuprophen is bad during pregnancy, but I've never heard of it being bad otherwise... any more info as to why it's bad in the UK?

Feeling a lot less sore than yesterday... thanks. I've not been out or anything today, haven't even put any day clothes on... had a shower and put my nightie on . Pills seem to be working and i've been drinking enough to drain a small lake

Thanks for all your advice ladies

I've had water infections for 2 years on and off. I would spend 2 hours sitting on the toilet because it hurt to walk or anything and I kept feeling I needed to wee when I didn't. It wasn't so much the pain but the frustration of going to the loo knowing if you don't go you'll make it worse but if you do you'll start it off. My god send was drink water and cranberry juice by the gallon! Also I found ribena had the same affect and it's much yummier. Hope you feel better soon, I know how horrible it is! x
