Hey everyone!!
I know this is off topic, but I'm going to fly to Holland on saturday and am flying with easyjet. I didn't purchase any baggage, so just traveling with hand luggage... I was packing our (mine and my son's) bag today (we're only allowed the 1!!) and thought I could do with some more space, then I thought about putting the clothes in a vacuum bag and putting that in my bag. I'm just worried about whether I'd be allowed to do that???

Does anyone have any idea?? I just don't wanna be at the airport and them asking me to open it up with the result of me not being able to get everything back in the bag!!

Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks girls (&guys)

I can't see any reason why not. Might be contacting EasyJet to ask?

The only thing that maybe a problem would be the weight perhaps? If you're putting loads of stuff in (I know you can fit loads in Vacuum Bags) it may put it over the hand luggage weight (if there is one?)

A bit risky in case they want to randomly go through all your stuff. When I flew with Flybe I was allowed to take two things for my LO; his pram and his changing bag. His changing bag was completely stuffed.

Also, do be careful of the weight limit. Remember that they have babies in holland so you can get what you need there.

Used to work for a US airline, and we would tell parents they can bring a carseat, a stroller, and a changing bag for free for the baby. Maybe Easyjet is the same and that'll give you another carry on bag to stuff?

Easyjet are very clear on hand baggage, unless you've bought a ticket for the infant, or paid for additional baggage, you cannot bring a bag for the baby as well as your own. You can bring a buggy or pushchair etc.

Vacuum bag might not be a good solution though. Quite apart from the weight issue, unless you have a perfect vacuum (which you'll never get) the air inside will expand with the cabin pressure so your vacuum bag might then be too big for the bag you put it in. Although once you are on the plane, that's less of an issue as long as you take an empty carrier bag or something to put the excess in!

If you did want to do it, you can get vaccuum pack bags that you roll the air out of rather than having to suck it with a hoover. They obviously don't flat pack stuff quite so well but it might give you a bit extra room and could be done at the airport if you're asked to open it.

Easy jet dont have a weight restriction on hand luggage so long as the actual bag is of the right dimensions :flower:

Not necessarily a restriction but you've to be able to lift it to an overhead locker.

Thanks for that girls!! Think I might just leave it as it is... I'm only bringing clothes for the both of us, a couple of nappies (6) so I don't have to go to the shop RIGHT away when I get there. And that's it, but obviously you need quite a lot of clothes for a LO, though I have scrimped compared to other times as I know my parents have a washing machine ;) haha
Clothes just take so much space!! :p
Apart from that I've managed to squeeze 2 cars in for Lucas.

I worry too much! haha ;)

I do think it's kind of stupid you're not allowed to bring a changing bag for your child though.... As long as it's not too big, just standard size like the Boots one.... Now I remember why I like flying with BA :p haha

I think the problem is with the cabin luggage space. Even allowing everyone one bag each the overhead bins are always jam packed. All it would take is an extra half a dozen changing bags and there's nowhere to put them. Have you got the maximum size of bag though? it's actually quite a big bag you can take.

yeah I got the max size bag... If they'd allow you to bring a nappy bag though you could stuff that under the seat in front of you.. that's what I always do with BA. Oh well... just go with what we've got ey?!

It's the same with Thomas Cook..We flew to Turkey in September and we weren't allowed to take a changing bag and had a weight limit of 5kgs on hand luggage..Which you soon realise how little that is!! What I was seriously peeved at though is we got there..We'd made sure everything was the exact weight or under..They didn't weigh our handluggage! They didn't even check if we all only had 1 each and everyone else who was on our flight with babies..Had changing bags that again they weren't even asked if they had, so we could have actually taken one anyway :nope: and besides the fact everyone goes through Duty Free and buys way more than their weight limit anyway so their really pointless
And most people on our flight didn't use the over heards they were pushed under the seat infront of you, us included. It's too much of a hassle having to get up and reach everytime LO needed/wanted something which with 2 toddlers..Was alot!x

You could always take a coat with big pockets and stick a bunch of nappies and a pack of wipes in there ...

We went to Turkey and having been there before knew that 1. You can't get branded nappies out there and 2. They're extortionate! So wanted to take as many as we could fit in and filled cases to the limit but we bought the small carry packs and put one under each pushchair in the shopping basket bit and it folded and clipped secure so they didn't come out, could be an option? :) x

yes, I did wonder how easy it would be to "pack" things under the buggies.

I bought a pushchair carry bag to go to America and packed stuff in there with the pushchair lol! x

If you did use vacuum packs you've got to think about coming back too..... does the place you're staying at have a hoover for when you're packing to come home?

hehe yeah, I'm staying with my parents :winkwink:
But anyways, I've gone for the traditional option of stuffing as much in there as I can and then I'm taking a carrier bag in the bottom of the buggy... I might even buy something (cheap) at the airport just to get a bag that I can stuff something else into aswell, as you're allowed to have a bag from something you bought at the airport aswell!

Gotta leave in about 40 minutes..... Hope I've got everything! :p
