My OB has given me a big stick thingie to take a vaginal swab to be done and taken into pathology at the same time as the GD test. Does anyone know what this is testing for? :flower:

It's to test for Group B Strep. Many women test positive for it so don't stress if yours is positive. it just means you'll need an IV drip with antibiotics during labor or c-section(if you're having one). If you test positive and don't have the IV the baby has a risk of getting sick and will need antibiotics as well. Some need some NICU time. But again this is rare. But in my pregnancies this test was always done third trimester.

I've got to have one because I got infected a week after I gave birth last time.

It's really early for a strep B test. Here, they don't do it until 36 weeks because even if you test positive earlier, it could go away by itself. That bacteria comes and go all the time.

Ah right! Thanks Ladies! Xx
