Hi Ladies,

Please help!!

My little man has been on SMA Gold from birth, his poops used to be a mustard colour and he was very regular - going 3-5 times a day. At one point he got a bit constipated and then finally had a BM which was sloppy and dark green. After a suspected intolerance we tried the SMA soy formula, his poop seemed to return to the normal mustard colour. We went to the doctor and spoke with my HV and she said she didnt think he had an intolerance and to change him back to the Gold as its better in terms of nutrition.

We did so and now my LO is going every 1-2 days with 1 BM, which is dark green and sloppy...Some have advised that this is normal but I am still worried so I took a pic to hopefully get some advice.

He is very happy and content, smiling all the time, eating and feeding perfectly and not dehydrated or windy - he does pass wind occasionally but never uncomfortable . I am just worried about the colour and consistency...

Is this normal? Any help would be super appreciated! :flower:

I did make a warning in the heading as to avoid upsetting anyone so apologies if I have offended anyone, as it is poop! :winkwink:

if it helps that looks like my daughters nappy most of the time. I think its because of the iron in the formula.

He he! ;) I don't know about ff poop sorry as I'm bf, but due to a recent-found fascination with poop I just HAD to look! :) I hope u get some good advice x

Haha! Thank you! Its unbelievable how we become fascinated in poop, burps etc...ahhh the glamorous life of a Momma!

Thank you Kage76, I think you may be right....He has always been on the same formula and now its all changed, not sure if its his digestive system maturing?

xx

Ours wasn't that colour and consistency but T always had really runny poo - to start with we thought she had diahorrea or a bug - turns out thats just how her poo is!
Perhaps thats just how your LO poos?!

Hun it's totally normal for ff babies to have green poo - especially those on SMA because it contains more iron than other formulas. That's exactly what Fran's poo has always looked like and she's been on SMA since birth too xx

Looks like LO's nappy, just more of it.
LO has always has dark green poo on sma. It's never been hard either normally soft but not like water iykwim?
Oh and he only poos every other day.

looks normal to me, it isn't tiny solid bits floating in water or containing mucus or blood so its not a problem. My youngest would have poo that colour the only time he ever had formula but it was bloody and mucusy as well and smelt like dead bodies (sorry if TMI), I have seen and smelt normal FF poo before and his was not like that at all; and it did turn out to be an intolerance. Strangely though they are meant to have dark green poo on cow and gate comfort too, and my second youngest who I switched from BF with because he had intolerances and nasty dark green, slimy, bloody poo was a result of that when he was BF, had perfect mustardy yellow poos on the cow and gate comfort that looked like BF baby poo xx

I am the same. Only popped in to look at the pic!

My LO is BF and has done green poo before but not like that!

My little one always had dark green poop on sma gold. I have just changed him to aptimel cause sma didnt seem to be agreeing with him as he wasnt pooping very often. His poop has now went back yellow and he poos twice a day. I think it probably is the iron in sma that makes it green. Alfies used to stink so bad too on sma. Hardly smells at all on aptimel for some reason.

My babies poo is mustard yellow! I have never seen green poo before lol

Debbie_23 - He used to go 3-5 times a day and now its once every 1 or 2 days and it smells really bad... do you think I should consider changing his milk?

Up until 7 weeks, it was perfect, then it changed to this, I just want to do whats best for him.

xx

Personally if he is happy- (no tummy pain or constipation) then i personally would leave it alone. Its really common in FF babies that they only poo irregularly- Sophie only manages to go every 2nd day- but when she does go- oh mother of god! For me its the pain and constipation issue. I tried to change Sophie to a different brand and she was miserable. If your LO is happy on the formula then it doesn't matter how often, what consistency or colour the poo is.

Kage76 - He is really happy on it so I will leave him unless he starts to get uncomfortable. I know what you mean when they finally go after a few days...Sweet Lord!

xx

My LOs poo has looked like that since I can remember lol!

I agree i wouldnt change it if he seems happy enough. I didnt change becuase of the poo being green or smelly, i just changed cause alfie seemed unsettled all the time. I think he just feels better if he poos every day but all babies are different some will get no tummy pain and be fine pooing every couple of days.

I dont think you have anything to worry about seems green poo is totally normal for sma. It is weird though cause my lo poos were yellow on sma for the first few weeks too then turned green at about 5 or 6 weeks old. Mabey just as their digestive systems mature they absorb things differently.
