I just wondered what accessories people recommend for weaning , especially as i know baby led weaning is very messy? I've only just managed to get it together to get a highchair. I want some good bowls with lids which are the best ones? Also I dunno what else to get. I'll be using muslins not bibs so that is covered and I have a sippy cup.

If you are going to do baby led weaning then I would get a splashmat to put on the floor - most of the food gets thrown for the first few weeks (months in my case!) or an old shower curtain works just as well.

The BLW bible.....

And a wonderful book of finger foods for kids....

Ok I would like to know where I can get a decent sucky thing to stick the bowl to the table? We have a Stokke highchair so Freya will be eating with us and I bought one of these from boots and I cannot get her plates to stick to it!!

A better one would be great

Also, I have a doidy cup, which I think is pretty good. :)

Boon has a "catch bowl" that suctions to your high chair tray/table :) It's meant for toddlers but I have one I am going to use with Elyse when she's tall enough for a bowl, she is so short she can hardly reach all the food on her tray sometimes :dohh:

I know you have your bibs sorted out but I have to rave about these bibs...

They are AMAZING.. waterproof, and when they drop chunks of food, the pocket catches them.. and I have found they fit best around Elyse's neck, better than any other fabric bib etc. I am currently hunting down this one by Kushies with sleeves in stores- for when I can't take her out of her clothes to feed her! Like at a restaurant or something:

At the moment I don't put Sofia's food in a bowl as she can't reach it and will ignore it. I put it in front of her. My table cloth is really busy so I have blu tacked a plain mat to it so she can see the food, she couldn't before!

I don't use a splash mat as I have tiles in the kitchen and just as easy to wipe them. I know it's meant to be used so you can just pick the food up off the floor and hand it to them but personally I probably wouldn't keep it clean enough for that anyway.

I have some really soft spoons by MAM that she finds easy to feed herself with, better than the other two hard plastic ones I tried. Think they're called baby's first spoon (that's what they were called in German).

I don't put Ruby's food into a bowl either - the bowl interests her more than the food. I just offer a pre loaded spoon or put stuff on her bumbo tray.

Oh and just to say thanks for saying that you use muslins as bibs Sublime Ivy, I tried that today and it seems like the best option :)

I thought the muslin idea is a good one too, never thought of that! Will give it a go tomorrow.
