Just wondered if others are planning/or did follow the latest advice from our Government to not start weaning until 6 months?
I have an immediate lack of trust for anything the Government suggest, and I think 6 months is too long to wait!

I tried to wean her at 4 months, just a spoon full, and she was having none of it. She didn't need weaned untill 6 months.

All babies are different, and guidelines are just that, guides. If your baby needs food sooner you'll know about it x

I say 4 mths. But I usually start when I feel baba is ready. All mine have shown signs around 4 mths.there are so many different rules nowadays. It was 4 months 11 years ago when I had my first baby so whats the difference now?

we got to 5 months and she needed it. we tried to get to 6 months but she was clealry getting hungry and her weight slowed right down. i think thye're chnaging it back to 4 months the baby clinic were telling me not mnay babies actually make it till 6 months

It bugs me that their advice never fits with reality!
Where abouts in Lancs are you? I am a Lancs girl too x

Well, their information is based on what a baby NEEDS, not what a baby WANTS. A baby shows an interest in food, and wants food, but might not necessarily need it and/or be able to handle it.

Every baby is different.

I'm doin baby led weaning which states around the middle of the 1st year as all babies are different. Just gonna watch for all the weaning cues and start then

i've pmed you.

yea they're going off nutrition and such like, they say 6 months because thats when their iron stores run out. i'm sure if there wasn't some kind of limit people would start asap and that can't be good for their digestion. each baby and parent are differnt though and require different timings.

I really wanted to wait until the 6 months but as Tristan had started waking up loads in the night (and he is a big baby!), I decided to start weaning a couple of days ago. So nearly 5 and a half months is not bad. We are going to stick to the baby rice and some carrot, banana and pear puree (not together obviously!) until the 6 month mark.

xxx

i started at 11 weeks. i knew she needed it then. we just gave heer baby rice until 4 months and am hoping to stick to veggies until 6 months!

i didn't wean maddi till just after 6months, she didn't solids till then. i felt very similar to you about the guidelines, i thought it was much to long to wait, so i just went by maddi, and she was wonderfully with just formula till 6months, and then she just took to solids :)

I started about 3.5 monthes Tabs is a verrry big baby so i knew she wanted and needed more food ( i was feeding her every hour )
Apparently our NHS is going to revert back to 4 monthes, but we shall see. My HV said weaning her was fine when i did, i gave her baby rice for quite a while and just started to give her fruit and veg n things the last few weeks :)

Canada has already reverted back to 4 months...

I started with rice cereal at 3 months, rice cereal is extremely easily digested. Once a baby starts having a certain amount of formula they should start weaning. Too much formula can cause obesity.

Me and my MIL were reading my OHs baby book and he started pablum at 2 weeks old!!! And applesauce at 6 weeks. Boy times have changed lol!

No, I'm not going to follow the government guidelines a such.
I'm going to wait till Aidan shows me signs of weaning. ATM he's doing just fine with his milk, and still goes 3-4 hours between feeds.

We started Poppy at 24 weeks so almost 6 months. I went to have her weighed when she was 25 weeks and spoke to a h/v at the clinic. She told me I should not really have started her and to just stick to baby rice until she was officially 6 months old. There was another mum in the room with a baby who was born the same day as Poppy and the h/v talking to her was telling her to give her baby this that and the other solids and was totally encouraging her to give him solids!

I have been giving Lexie a rusk for her dinner (around 12-1pm) and a bottle. And she is fine with her milk and rusks for now. When I start getting signs I'll start her off slowly with Rice, and Meals. But I'm not starting it yet as she's satisfied with what she's getting now. :) She does have more wind with the rusks! Let me tell ya!

Char had rice cereal at 5 weeks old...carrots too. She went to different solids at 4 months old which is what the pediatrician suggested.

David just turned four months, and he's had nothing but breastmilk so far. He's a pretty big boy though (over 16 lb now), and is ALWAYS on the breast for a feed. Once I get the okay from the pediatrician, I'm going to try out some rice with him.
