Hello :hi:

My LO is nearly 5 months old and weighs 15.7oz's and is formula fed. I worked out he is supposed to have 49oz's of milk in 24 hours but i dont think he is getting anywhere near this amount.

He is gaining weight fine but i'm just worried he's not taking enough milk, he only takes little feeds at a time maybe 4/5 oz's each time but then wants more 1/2 hours later so just seems to eat little bits constantly in the day.

He had started going 6/7 hours through the night but now is up 2/3 times a night and is quite often wanting to be up at 5/6ish.

Just seems i cant get enough milk into him..any advice on what i can do to possibly have him take bigger feeds more often?

Thanks:flower:

I wouldn't worry, he has what he wants x just feed on demand :)

T is 9 months, 19lbs 8oz and still has 4-5 7oz bottles per day.

I think he sounds fine, he's gaining weight :)
My son is the same, he eats 4-5 ounces, usually every hour, sometimes we get 2hr breaks then an hr before bed he eats 10-15 ounces. He usually sleeps 8 hrs. He's breast fed though- I don't think that makes a difference? =)

Does he burp? I know with my daughter we could never get her to burp but it can make a difference in their eating.

-Maybe try talking to him while feeding him. I have to do that with my son when he's really fussy and won't eat.
-Maybe change the nipples
-Have you tried solids yet?
I also have read that at 6 months (on average) babies eat 26-39 ounces depended on if they're eating solids

I would call his doctor just to make sure but if he's not acting hungry after eating, making wet diapers/pooping, and gaining weight he should be fine :)

According to this site he should be getting 31-39oz per day, is that closer to what he's actually getting?

This is what I use, the number it gives me for my LO is around what the doctor & the counselors at WIC tell me he should be getting, so it seems pretty accurate.

My lo is 5.5 months, weighs 15lb 9 and has around 35 oz per day (give or take 5oz).
Shes gaining weight perfectly.
Your lo sounds fine to me x

Yeah 35/39oz's sounds more like it actually..don't know how i managed to get 49oz's
Also will they drop feeds naturally as you start to introduce solids? Not started yet but thinking he'll soon be ready.

yes they will :)
They don't all the time though

Dont worry about how much they are 'supposed' to drink!!!

My first LO was formula fed and never took more than 25 oz in the one day - and that was up to 6 months - not a drop more, then from 8 months onwards that amount dropped.

Health visitor told me that they should have 150-200mls for each kg of their weight.

Not sure what that is in lbs n oz etc lol
