Welcome to 'Trying To Conceive Over 35'

Ali- o my hell, your bf A1C was 400??? Not sure how much about diabetes he is familiar with but that is terrible. That means that his average reading is 400 (rather than 90 to 120) and that when it spikes (and it always does) it is probably spiking into the 600 range. He could very easily stroke. Not your best option. How about calling a cab? That's what I would do. If ya got nobody else, money always talks  If he is an ex try not to worry too much. I worry like crazy about my dh but that's cause he's my hero :hugs: I am sure that his doc warned him of the risks....on another note your follies will grow faster than you think, you are just impatient like I am. :haha: And you really went and bought makeup that I recommended? :saywhat: Taht's a first! lol! I say that because for so many years I knew NOTHING about makeup, then decided to try it :haha: I guess I am trying to make-up for red-nosed lost time  And yes, it is recommended to use hair color that is ammonia free  :)

Babywhisperer- yep he was pretty darned hostile! LOL! And I am very obviously pregnant :haha: Btw, all of what you just described could be either AF or bfp- it happens with both. Try not to worry, it's gotta be one or the other right? And you are tough, that is obvious!

Lawyers can be dbags. I dated a couple before I met dh and they were typical NYC lawyers...I dodged a bullet there. I got lucky my dh is such a good natured guy.

I'm feeling some pms/af symptoms this morning. The sides of my boobs are tender and I'm feeling some cramps. I fell asleep before 10pm last night and I've been getting up every 3hrs to pee. CM is back to almost dry...not good signs.

How is everyone else this morning? Ali I get your follicles grow like weeds! And I agree with Coy, take a cab and try not to worry about your ex too much...you have a full plate right now and you need to focus on yourself. I'm sure his Dr will be urging him to get treatment with a score that high. My SIL is a diabetic and for years she was lazy when it came to managing her disease. Only the last few years has she stabilized her sugars and went on the pump. I wish him well. Get as much as rest this weekend!!

I was trying to sleep but apparently
my evil neighbors decided that 8am on a Saturday morning is a great time to do their gardening.. first the blower then the lawn mower! Usually they wait until 10 or 11..
My phone is still messed up :( I'll be heading to AT&T shortly.. after I try to  some more! Going to try out the foundation and hair color today too!

Hi ladies!

I'm back from our trip. It was wonderful, and so many good things happened. Not sure if I can share just yet as I am trying to sort through some stuff. And I haven't gotten a chance to really talk to my hubby about what happened. Haven't gotten a chance to talk to him about anything, :nope: and I've been home since Tuesday night.

My temp dropped drastically this morning and I have been spotting for the last two days, so I know AF is on her way. That's okay, I'm not upset. We won't be trying for the next two months because if I would get pregnant, my due date would make it impossible for me to attend a global conference... and missing that is just out of the question. Oh, well, that will give me time to relax and pray about how long we should ttc.

I just spent the last 45 minutes catching up on everyone. Wow! I hate to post and run, but I have a tub full of laundry that needs rung out, and I have to shower and get ready for a meeting. I have to leave in 40 minutes. Yikes!

Welcome back!!

Need some advice from you experienced ladies: I'm unsure when I ovu and I used an opk. I am cd25 and I thought I was 12/13dpo b/c I got a darker test line on my opk on cd11 and the morning of cd12...but here's my question, I got major cramping on cd14 and that's when I think I ovu. That would put me at 11dpo. Does that sound right? Af is due anywhere from tommorw thru Wed. Thanks!!

Hmmmm.....Yes, if you got the cramping on CD14 it would set you around 11 dpo...however, (and I am just theorizing here) it COULD have been implantation that you felt as that often brongs a crampy pinchy feeling  Also, just FYI when I got my bfp I also continued to get positives on my opks for a while.... do you have an hpt per chance? [-o<

Ali- hope you got some extra rest! Take the day and try to relax, get some chocolate-something a good movie! Oh, btw, I hope I never seemed to indicate to you that you needed make-up...I just wear it sometimes because I NEVER wore it before. I think I was probably 30-something before I started. So I am catching up for lost time :haha:

Ah..sigh...well, the first day dh was deposed and was gone most of the day, so Kat's world was turned upside down and she had a restless night. So I slept crappy. Then last night (I am guessing because I had been gone all day) she was also restless and we spent until 4:30 in the morning hashing it out. I made her get up and sit on the couch and threatened to not let her go back to sleep :haha: unless she slept quietly and continuously the night through (what was left of it) in her own bed. Finally she relented and went to bed. Something about getting awakened every hour seems worse than if I just stayed up  Better not happen tonight though :growlmad: Dh gave me the advice "when she does that just let her sleep in our bed so that you can rest". Um. No. That doesn't work darling- cave and give her what she wants is murder in the world of mommy discipline!!!

HEHE.. sounds like your DH is a softie, which is good, but also bad! Children need some discipline in their lives, and also structure. I agree if you give in, then all hell breaks loose! Plus DD needs to sleep in her own room, I'm sure that she is going through a rough patch, seeing as though she won't be the baby anymore, and with you all being together everyday any upheaval in that routine is bound to make her anxious. Hopefully today you guys will all sleep well! One thing you can try is to get them outside and tire them out! Then they won't have much choice but to sleep right?

I love how I can give advice on child rearing.. :haha: I just think back to the things my parents did to deal with these issues. Seemed to work for me!

AFM - I did get another hour or so of sleep, which was great! YAY! I just had my favorite breakfast (well brunch today). It is a Jimmy Dean breakfast bowl (found in the freezer section) it has egg, potatoes, cheese and you can choose sausage, bacon or ham. I never go for the sausage, but either have the ham or the bacon. The ham is definitely better for you at 310 calories vs. 410 for the bacon, but the bacon is just so yummy! OMG. It's sinful!
I now have to get all the stuff rounded up that the mortgage broker needs. I think I have most of it from when I was trying to refinance with the other broker. Once I have that done, I plan on coloring my hair, then doing my shots (have to be done at 3:30) then I'm going to go out and get a pedicure, go to home depot and get a hedge trimmer and then get groceries. I might get my hair cut too. The ends need a trimming! So that is the plan for today. Tomorrow I head back to the FS at 9:30 then I think I'll get my car washed, and then I'll probably come home and finish cleaning out my closets. I have to get rid of at least 1/2 of my clothes, as most of it I don't wear anymore and its just silly to have it in my closet!

We only bd cd11/12/13 so I doubt cd14 cramps was implantation. I've had some random cramps yesterday and today so I guess AF is coming early. I cried at a commercial last night! I tend to get weepy 2 days before af and I will cramp 1-2 days before. CM is still dry so I guess it's AF coming and nothing else.

Sorry for the short post, we have to catch a train into the city to see the space shuttle on the Intrepid and onto dinner! Have a fab Saturday everyone!!

AWW.. so sorry BabyWhisperer, hopefully AF comes and goes quickly (if it is coming) so you can start fresh next month! Have a great time in the city tonight, sounds like you have some fun stuff planned

Hey Coy,

I know you like to chart stalk.. wanted to let you know that I updated my chart, with the meds I'm taking and I did temp this morning. I kind of like temping, but it's not going to help much since I won't be ovulating and I'll be on progesterone for my 2WW so we won't even be able to use temps to determine if I'm pregnant or whether its just the supplemental progesterone keeping my temps high! :nope:

Oh, and since you love learning.. here are some interesting facts about the IVF process:

1) Bravelle, Follistim, Gonal F all contain FSH, and a smaller amount of LH (10%) and are primarily used to get you to produce more than 1 follicle
2) Menopur contains 50/50 ratio of FSH and LH and is used to make the follicles you have grow
3) Ganirelix is used to stop your LH surge from occurring, so you don't prematurely ovulate.
4) hCG is used to mature the follicles and force ovulation at 36 hours after the shot is given
5) Egg retrieval happens exactly 34-36 hours after the hCG shot so the eggs can be retrieved just before they release on their own. Progesterone and Estrogen supplements start, I will also be given prednisone and doxyclycine.
6) IFV begins
Extra IVF options:
ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) - is a process by which they select a healthy sperm and inject it into the egg, forcing fertilization. This is an option for couples that have male fertility problems or for donor sperm. It helps to get the fertilization process completed successfully
Assisted Hatching - where they take the embryo and 'crack' it like an egg to make a small hole in the shell. This is done to help make it easier for the embryo to latch on in the uterus. Apparently as women age their embryos have harder shells making it more difficult for them to implant. The assisted hatching helps in this process.
7) Eggs and sperm are placed in an incubator, they then perform the ICSI and we hope that as many of the eggs are fertilized as possible.
8) The embryologist watches over them and watches how they split and determines the quality of the embryos.
9) A few hours before the transfer they do the assisted hatching.
10) 3 days after the retrieval they transfer the embryos into the uterus.
11) The 2WW begins! I'm not sure whether I will have to go in for supplemental appointments during the 2WW or just for the BETA test.

That is my process in a nutshell..

:bodyb:Happy Saturday...

Coy...how are you feeling? I think about you everyday, as it gets closer to your delivery date. :hugs: I'm excited for you... I hope you are not over working yourself. I can't say much since I taught aerobics at least three times a day until I was 8.5 months pregnant. And I am sure once I get pregnant again, I will still be working out.

Ali...you have a seriously detailed process going on. I'm sure glad there are experts to guide the way. Too many medications to keep track of...which will make it soooo worth it when your BFP comes!!

BabyWhisperer...I hope you are having fun in the city. Relax and enjoy every minute!! Life is good! You're cute, getting all weepy and everything. :)

AFM...I truly believe I have learned to embrace every moment. Whether AF arrives (and she did, but now she's gone :winkwink:) or even when I get my BFP, I know that the man upstairs is in control and if it is meant to be (and I believe that it is) it will be.
Currently I am preparing for competition in five weeks. (Not the best way to get pregnant, I know) But this will be my last competition until I have a baby. And after the show, me and BF will be on a mission.
So what does it mean to prepare for competition? It means I have two hours a day of cardio AND a weight workout on a specific body part. Today I ran 3 mile in 29 minutes, did 36 minutes on the elliptical, and 55 minutes on the spin bike. I also had a fantastic leg workout... :saywhat: Whew! I was exhausted!!
Competing also means a very strict diet. For the next two weeks I only get carbs (sweet potatoes or rice) every third day. This makes me insane!! Think about PMS emotions and multiply it by ten!! Most of my diet is veggies and protein. So today I had 2 scoops of protein, 2 hard boiled eggs, and some mixed veggies with tuna. Later I will have the tuna and veggies AGAIN...
Pizza will be on my agenda immediately after my show!! :happydance:
In the meantime, I am sitting here working on school stuff and BF is off with his parents looking at vehicles. He wants a Tahoe really bad...you know, so he can be prepared for our future children! :haha:

Sorry for the long post...just taking a break from school stuff...I included a picture of my lunch... YuMMY!

Ali- Ahhh...so I wonder when we struggle to get prego if our bodies possibly aren't producing enough FSH and Lh...I understand that it is the LH that causes our follies to pop so to speak, produce and egg, but I am wondering if we don't produce enough LH does the follicle just sort of disappear or fall away?
Wow, and I didn't know that our embryonic shell gets harder as we age- super information Ali, I am glad you posted all of this. I will copy it into a doc so I can refer to it.

Are you planning on doing this whole process? I noticed you mentioned some of the IVF options are just that: options. Will you be doing the ICSI and the AH both? Oh, and you mentioned 3 days after the ER they do the transfer-- will you be in the hospital this whole time or are you permitted to leave? And after the transfer do they keep you in overnight or give you any special instructions (like- no jumping up and down :haha:)?

Jess- I love your attitude! I agree one hundred percent too, if it's not time no matter how hard we try God will not make it happen. If it is time then He will make it happen! Dh and I prayed like crazy though too, especially after our mc back in November. That was so hard, and especially so because the girls didn't know what was going on. By God's blessing we were able to get pregnant right away again so my oldest (T is 7) thinks this has just been a really long pregnancy :hugs:

Re: your workout and diet. WOW! I love it, I would love to try it out, I love the idea of being able to focus so intently on working out, spend so much time, et cetera. To me working out was always like a meditation of sorts, calms my mind, gives me that rush IYKWIM? Hm..I wonder how long I have to wait after babes is born? I always argue with my doc or MW about the 6 weeks  but they insist upon it. Then dh plays watchdog for them :growlmad: Dh tells me if I don't wait sufficiently then I could damage my abs, e.g., all of the spreading et cetera :sad1: But 6 weeks isn't so bad  My biggest concern is how much I can cut w/o affecting breastfeeding

Oh- what would you supplement instead of tuna since I can't eat that  lol!

BTW- kudos to your BF looking at Tahoes! I was looking at them too, they seem like a great family vehicle

Yep I'm doing the ICSI and the hatching, the doctor figures that it will increase my chances since I'm using donor eggs and I'm over 37.

I'll go in for the egg retrieval and will go home right after, then when I go back 3 days later for the transfer I think the transfer is much like an IUI they insert them and off you go! They haven't said much to me about the ER I'm assuming that I'll be in pain and am planning on taking the day off. Hopefully the ET falls over next weekend and I can just relax!

How is your Saturday going? Hope you are having a good day!

Jess.. not a huge fan of tuna either, but the veggies look yummy! I really do hope that this is my month! I also think it is great that you are so dedicated to your training and prep! So awesome! It inspires me! Once the competition is over I bet you will transfer that dedication to plan :bfp: :)

Well I'm in the process of getting my hair cut and colored.. decided to get it done professionally one last time. Then I can touch it up on my own at home.

 everyone!

I wonder how Tracey and Angel are doing? Angel was going to have her appt with the RMC! I hope it went well!

Ali- wait. I think I may be confused. What do you mean you are using donor eggs? You mentioned that you are going in for egg retrieval, so...doesn't that mean you will be using your own eggs? wonder if you meant donor sperm? Oh, and I meant to ask (sorry for all the questions!) when they do the transfer you said you thought it was much like an IUI- basically shoot it in there and off you go...but do they shoot it into your uterus? I am thinking that would make more sense...
Re: tuna. I love tuna just plain and salted on crackers or on bread. But the mercury has me concerned as I am told by my doc not to eat it when prego...Plus, I grew up in Alaska and we had a fish camp where we worked literally hundreds if not thousands of fish a day and that's all mom cooked. You read my recipes from mom and gramma right? Yeah. Anyway, fish= LOL!

I was wondering about Angel and Terri last night too

Hello doll! We are back from the city. We had crazy storms here this morning, a tornado touched down on the south shore of LI. The wind was so bad we lost our power 4 times. It cleared up and we got to see all of the Intrepid, the fighter planes, control tower, flight simulator, submarine, space shuttle...the aircraft carrier is gigantic. As we were going on a tour of the submarine the sky got dark and we had another tornado warning. September is becoming tornado season here. My hubs and I were stuck on the train in one 3 weeks after we met in Sept '10. We had a nice dinner with friends and are back home already. We are hoping to make it to the beach tomorrow.

I had a lot of energy as I normally do the day before af so I won't be surprised if she shows up tomorrow. After reading a lot of stories on here and being almost 37 (Nov) I hope I am not in for a long heartbreaking journey to conceive. If you have sex when you know your about to ovulate and it's your 3 most fertile days, what prevents you from getting that bfp?

Anyway, Coy how are you feeling from the other night? Still feeling the pressure and ms symptoms?

Ali, getting excited for tomorrow? Glad you were able to get another hour of sleep! You are such an inspiration with how you keep such a positive and breezy attitude while on all that medication!

Jess, 2hrs of cardio, weights and a restrictive diet...isn't that overtraining or risking becoming catabolic? That is some intense regime. I need to find the motivation I once had to be at the gym 5-6 days a week with a hardcore routine. I have let myself go and I can't believe how I went from being someone who panicked about missing a day to being so tried and unmotivated to get there at all. Sprinkle some of your gym motivation dust on me!!

What else is new? How was everyone's day/night?

Babywhisperer-

" If you have sex when you know your about to ovulate and it's your 3 most fertile days, what prevents you from getting that bfp?" Great question! You may have posed it without really asking for an answer but I got some thoughts :) :haha: I always have something to add, right? lol. Hm. I thought about this too while dh and I were trying to conceive.
One reason could be diet. Blocked tubes? Confused swimmers :spermy: Hostile cervical mucus. Uterine lining preventing implantation?
I do know that caffeine is detrimental to conception: apparently the fallopian tubes "flex" to encourage the newly fertilized egg to travel up the tube and into the uterus for implantation. Caffeine impedes or paralyzes the fallopian tube preventing it from flexing or squeezing the egg on its journey.
Also on the hostile cm portion: preseed is supposed to help a lot, I never used it but I have heard many swear by it! As far as uterine lining: Ali has discussed the benefit of taking baby aspirin pre-ov and I think post-ov? to aid in the thickening and she always has a triple lining
Oh, and we have all talked a lot about position, e.g., staying on your back during :sex: and supporting your hips to tilt upward, especially after, that way the :spermy: are aided on their journey through the cervix. Prop up for 20 minutes or so. Anywho, just sopme thoughts. What all have you tried, just basic timing? Often that is all you need :hugs: Fx'd!

Nuts. I have to study the history of psychoanalytic theory tonight...I hope that doesn't mean I have to write any future essays on Freud  LOL! Something about being a mother and Freudian theory just doesn't mix :haha: (I know, I know, despite common thought  lol) I am always taken back to Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure "Sigmund Frood, dude", lol. Can anyone tell I am silly-tired?

Oh, btw, my attorney called me "stoic" is that bad or good? Just to make sure I looked up several definitions.

Here is the first:

" One who is seemingly indifferent to or unaffected by joy, grief, pleasure, or pain."

Hm. Here is the second:

Someone who does not give a sh**t about the stupid things in this world that most people care so much about. In short, they know that reacting emotionally to certain situations is totally futile.
Can I pick the second definition? I like it better :)

Oops.. silly me I meant donor sperm! I'm using my own eggs! That is why I have 30 follicles! :haha:

Well I'm hoping that my follicles have grown but to be honest, I haven't had any symptoms today or yesterday.

IUI is insertion of the sperm into the uterus, the embryo transfer is similar, they insert the embryos into the uterus. I think the only difference is that when they put the embryos up there they use a bigger catheter.

I'm watching the movie.. the ides of march.. interesting!!

:spermy:
Thank you for a forum that is for people who remember pull-tabs on coke cans.... and phones that required you to put your finger in a hole and go around, then again, and again... to call a number.

Well, I remember, anyway. :jo:

Hello, I'm (almost as old) as original sin and TTC. And upbeat about the whole thing. So, you younger women can take heart that someone older than you, is also trying to conceive.

Maca milkshake, anyone?

Do fries go with that shake????? TTC 46
