Welcome to 'Trying To Conceive Over 35'

Twotogo, the cruise sounds like heaven! Your posts about trying to catch the doggy urine sample brought to mind a hilarious mental picture! Good luck!

Samsfan, I am sorry about the tyroid related stress! As long as your thyroid levels are being controlled, the nodule should not impact fertility. They are quite common. Having your thyroid removed might be a good option. Many doctors recommend that if the gland is not working to eliminate cancer risk.

Ali, that is exciting about the possible romance on your horizon. Does he know about the IVF? I am just curious because you are living the plot to about seventeen movies with this! I am glad you have a plan for dealing with the NK cell problem.

Coy, your mom is a white supremest? Wow! My mother in law is a racist, and I just cannot stand it. It makes me sick. She denies it, but it is obvious. Since you are using the rhythm method, I would not be surprised if you get bundle of joy#4 pretty soon! :) Elementary s a pretty decent show, isn't it? Well, once you get over Dr. Watson being played by Lucy Lui! Eeek.

Never_give_up, I know what it is like with stubborn husbands who do not think they need to see doctors. Frustrating! If I lived in your area, I would try to go to Johns Hopkins. They are very highly regarded. Oh, and your comment about your yoga tape made me think of a sticker I saw recently. It said "I am in a really good place spiritually. So please f**k off. Nomaste."

Okay, well I am officially LATE. For the past six or so days, my breasts have been SO sore. I have never had that before. They huuuuurt! I have been having a lot of dizziness as well, and a minor skin break out. I do not think I am pregnant because I have been having cramping since the day after I ovulated, just like last month. (Before going on Clomid, I would only have cramping the day I started my period, even when I was young and ovulating on my won.) I have been really nauseous yesterday and today. I feel like I am having PMS magnified exponentially.

Woohoo!! JenSC Your symptoms sounds awesome! Sore breast was the first symptom I noticed when I got my bfp!! I didnt have fibrocystic breasts 3 years ago so it was also a new symptom for me. How many days late are you? Do you take your bbt? You should :test: !!

Jen that bumper sticker you saw is hilarious! When I come out of acupuncture I am also very serene. Dh will ask if my fibro pain is better and I will respond "oh yeah I feel like mellow jello"

Hi ladies!
Jen- Oooo I don't want to get preggo YET! Lol! I want to enjoy getting in shape first but if we do then  take it in stride, be very happy about it :cloud9: then after labor GO ON BC!!! :haha: Yes, my mom is very prejudice- she's says "I'm not! I'm not!" But my uncle (and FBI agent) married a Blackfoot Indian lady...my mom and gramma told us "Aunt Betty will eat her dinner in the living room while the erst of us sit in the dining room"...:saywhat: well my syblings and I knew wtf was going on so we staunchly refused to eat and sat w/Aunt Betty in the living rom :growlmad: How can they do THAT yet say "I'm not!" ??? Aaargh!
You're symptoms look amazing! Not trying to get your hopes up, but.....:test: lol! I did get my bbt chart back form my doc, I will put it through FF then posta copy here for you all to compare...just for fun :winkwink:

Ali- where are you?

Chantal- mmmm lobster? Always wanted to try it :winkwink: eat some for me!!

Where's Babywhisperer and Babydust and JandK???AFM- looking at my chrt...I am 6 dpo and had a huge temp spike this morning...now last month I had a huge temp spike at 6 dpo too, so I am looking for pattern now. If I am not preggo and am having a short luteal phase due too bf'ing (Like Chantal suggested a few weeks ago) then I expect to get AF within a day or 2 days. Food for "chart watchers" thought! :haha: Babes is asleep I am thinking of hopping out for a short run  Fx'd lol

I love the mugs Ali :) So cute! Target always has such cute mugs and these ones are perfect for you!

Have a wonderful Sunday ladies. I am looking forward to MLK day, having dh home, going to Japanese sushi lobster buffet (will be eating lots of raw oysters Woohoo!) and then going to watch The Hobbit at AMC. I love long weekends! :yipee:

AHHH.. I miss those long weekends in Jan/Feb! I don't get them anymore. I only got them when I worked a Gov't job. I especially miss the one in October for Columbus day (even though I know there is a lot of controversy over it) I just liked it for selfish reasons as it was over the Canadian thanksgiving weekend so I could get home to Canada and use less vacation days. I don't miss my gov't jobs though. I LOVE my position, the hours not so much. I realized I worked 36 hours last week with the following schedule:
Monday - off due to migraine
Tuesday - late start saw my regular GP for my yearly workup
Wednesday - left early for acupuncture
Thursday - full day work
Friday - late start to see my FS
I figure I took 12 hours off, but still worked 36?

Combining sushi and lobster is sinful! I love it, but usually can't afford it as they charge an arm and a leg for it! ENJOY! I'm jealous! Enjoy the movie too!

I had the same thoughts, too funny!

Samsfan, I am sorry about the tyroid related stress! As long as your thyroid levels are being controlled, the nodule should not impact fertility. They are quite common. Having your thyroid removed might be a good option. Many doctors recommend that if the gland is not working to eliminate cancer risk.

I was just reading something about thyroiditis and how it can cause elevated NK cells, so possibly that is part of your problem too? Once you get your results from your endocrinologist (and it may include thyroid removal) discuss with your FS doing the NK test.

Ali, that is exciting about the possible romance on your horizon. Does he know about the IVF? I am just curious because you are living the plot to about seventeen movies with this! I am glad you have a plan for dealing with the NK cell problem.

Yep, I tend to agree with you, your DH better put his gun away for a while, you tow are tempting fate ;) Maybe you guys want another child, and irish twin? If so go for it!

Nomaste."

OHH.. I want a bumper sticker that says that..

Jen those are some extremely promising feelings/symptoms. I would say :test: I am cautiously optimistic, and really hoping that this is it!

See above for my thoughts!

The cramping makes me think I am surely not pregnant. I know some cramping can be normal during the first trimester, but this feels the same as last month. On the other hand, I am having symptoms that are new for me. I am SO tired, have been since Monday. For example, on Wednesday, I woke up at 10:30 (I NEVER sleep that late! I am usually up by 7.) Then I took a nap from 2 to 5, and went to bed at midnight. If my period hasn't come in a few days, I will test, but I feel like I am going to start anytime. I was due on Thursday, but since I took Clomid on days 5-9, that might have pushed my due date back to CD30, which was yesterday. Chantal,I don't do bbt. I maybe should. Coy, that story about your aunt is appalling! Good for you and your siblings to deny them the opportunity to ostracize the poor woman. I am surprised your uncle didn't say "we are leaving" and get his wife out of there! You are totally right, their ability to deny the reality of their bigotry is amazing. My mother-in-law assumes all black people are criminals, but since her husband is Hispanic, she firmly believes she is not a racist. I have pointed out that black and Hispanic are not the same, and that if Hispanic people can be racist toward blacks, I fail to see why being married to one precludes the possibility!

I'm here, I'm here.. just dealing with a migraine again  Thought we were over them as yesterday was wonderful! So last night I got on a roll, I started outlining all the upgrades I want to do to my house:

Laundry - add cabinetry, a sink, etc. So I created a plan online to see what kind of cabinets and such would fit. It is a small room, but it is poorly laid out at the moment. So I want to put in lower cabinets, and upper cabinets and a broom closet. I laid it all out, right down to the cabinet/drawer pulls and the cost of the materials (minus the plumbing stuff because I have no idea what would be needed) it was about $1300. Just pre-fab cabinets from Home Depot and laminate counter top, my only splurge was on the faucet and drawer pulls. The reason for the upgraded faucet is that I plan on washing the dogs in the sink and I need one that has a shower type nozzle. Then another $500 to install.

Lighting and Electrical - I need to add 2 plugs where no electricity currently runs (entry way and the landing on the stairs) and I want to add pendant lighting and under the cabinet lighting in my kitchen. I figure probably $1500 for the lighting, materials and labor.

Flooring - I need to replace the ugly horrible carpet up the stairs and the second floor. It is gross, and cheap builders grade. I think with babies and dogs, the best option is hardwood. I have pre-engineered hand-scraped hardwood in the down stairs, so why not do this upstairs? My thought was hardwood on the second floor, but carpet on the stairs. Thinking of safety here, dogs and babies are less likely to slip and fall on carpet as they are on hardwood. I know for a fact that my older dog would not like the hardwood stairs (she refused to go up/down my friends hardwood stairs when she was visiting). So I'm budgeting about $6000 for all, materials, and installation.

Plantation Shutters- In my master bedroom I have the unfortunate issue of the sun. It is a room that has both east and west exposure  The east exposure means that if it is a sunny morning I get sun beams directed at my head (not pleasant), the afternoon sun also pours in there and it makes it impossible to take an afternoon nap and the room gets extremely hot. Cost of plantation shutters $1100

Backyard Landscaping - install a retaining wall and backfill with dirt, plant shade tolerant plants in there to fill in the garden, I was quoted about $1000 for that last year

Painting - I would like to re-paint the common areas of my house (downstairs, the stairway and the hallway upstairs) and also my office and potential baby room. Figuring paint, materials and labor would be $1800

Front Yard Landscaping - rip out the ugly plants the builders planted and replace them with something that looks better $500

New Furniture - I need a proper TV console, and a bed frame (right now my bed is just on a cheapo metal frame without any headboard). I've picked out the console its $599, who knows what a nice 4-poster bed to match the existing furniture is going to cost? Maybe $1000?

OK I think that is all. That is what I was working on until the wee hours of the morning. Creating my TO DO/Wish List of things I want to do.

Between my raise, my referral bonus, my tax refund and the decrease in mortgage payment once I refi, I should be able to afford to do these things, and I would really like to get most of them done before I have a baby. The inside stuff is a must especially the baby room, laundry and flooring. The outdoor stuff can be done at a later date, but I want that retaining wall in before my baby is walking. My Mom would be horrified that I want to spend so much money on a house I'm underwater in, but the flip side to that is that I'm underwater and while I love my house, these things are really driving me nuts, and I figure I'll be here at least another 5 years. So is it that horrible to spend what comes down to $2000 a year on a house that I'm living in? Especially when the refi should cut my mortgage payment by almost $500/mo.

What do you all think? Am I bonkers ?

I used floorplanner.com to make this. It is really cool!

The only thing I couldn't get into the room was the upper cabinets (at least in the display. Not sure why? The cabinet to the right of the W/D (which are stacked) is the broom closet, and it had to be at most 17" deep or it wouldn't fit with the window that is in the room. So imagine upper cabinets over the sink and the lower cabinets to the left of the W/D. The room is already tiled and there is already a sink roughed in. So basically all I have to do is get someone to install the cabinets, and a plumber to come and install the sink. I can do the drawer pulls (done it before) and bingo! DONE. HMM.. Maybe I should paint in there too? Something bright, like a yellow? The cabinets I picked are just plain white laminate and the countertop is just a creamy/beige basic color (nothing fancy).

While the jury is still out on whether you are bonkers, the house remodel plans are not evidence for the prosecution. :) No, seriously, I think the most important thing is that you are happy in your house. The financial wisdom of the remodel is secondary to your comfort. After all, if you don't like the house, its value to you is very little, and since you are paying a mortgage, do what you have to to get your moneys worth. Also, it sounds like it is financially a pretty good idea. When you go to sell the house, these upgrades would be reflected in a higher selling price...

I have heard plenty a woman say.. I was 100% convinced AF was going to arrive each day, and each day she didn't. The cramping (if pregnant) is due to 2 things. The embryo implanting and your uterus stretching in anticipation of the pregnancy. :test: :happydance:

Thanks! Some of the changes are cosmetic and aren't necessarily needed. The rest however will build value in the house, and when I do eventually sell it, they will help make my house more appealing. The painting of the lower floor, stairway and upper hallway, and the garden work is the cosmetic stuff. I have an issue with the color the builders chose for the common areas, it is a color that isn't a color. You can't say it is beige, or off white or yellow, it is a color without an identity, and for me it drives me absolutely bonkers! My Mom laughs at me and says it is a neutral color. Well yes, perhaps she is right, but I want it to be identifiable! Because it isn't, I feel like it lacks personality, and since I have such an outgoing personality it just drives me insane. How I have lived with it for 5 years is beyond me. Maybe because I was barely making ends meet, and had no choice! :growlmad:
The furniture additions are things I can take with me, and I tend to buy decent quality, lasting type furniture that I will have for years to come. So that purchase is something my Mom doesn't mind. She is also infavor of the lighting additions as she has tried to cook in my kitchen and cooking in the dark is not easy!

I'm excited to start.. the question is where to start? Maybe the electric/lighting, shutters and the furniture? Then move on to the painting and laundry room. Then the flooring, and finally the outdoor stuff.

Son-uva-B!!!! Lol! I just read the bold print and became exhausted! lol! Ali- you are waaaay to busy for a Sunday woman! :winkwink:

www.floorplan.com Suh-weet! lol! I am off to explore! Speaking of changing things up- this house of ours is very old, built in the 1930s and dh and I got to poking around and found out that beneath this hideous beige carpet  is a full wood plank floor! :saywhat: SO guess who is going to be ripping and tearing come spring!! Yep. Me :smug: lol

Now I am hunting out a good sander and some stain! I am picturing my living room...long wooden floor that stretches out to my fireplace :cloud9: Oh, and behind the fireplace is a full rock wall - already exists, so - cool! So I think it'll look perfect

What a surprise! I don't know why so many people cover beautiful flooring with carpet. :saywhat: are they crazy  Hardwood flooring can be cold in winter, but you get throw rugs to make it cozy. Plus with kids and dogs it is soooooo much easier to maintain. Spills (by dogs or kids) are so easily cleaned up, no permanent stain or stinky smell. That is fantastic that you have a hidden treasure under your carpet! I don't know if you have this option where you live, but there are often hardware rental places where you can rent a sander for the day or 2, and it is a fraction of the cost of buying the tool. I've done it before (for a sander actually) and I think it was $45 for the day. Got the job done, returned it and I was a very happy camper!

So does that mean you can knock down the plasterboard and expose rock/brick? That would be so nice! You are lucky. My house was build in 2006, behind the plasterboard there is concrete block! UGLY. Then again, in south Florida this is the preferred building material. No rot due to the humidity or water damage.

Lucky YOU! Well for the discoveries, not for the blood sweat and tears you will be putting into the remodel! I would love to do some of the work on my house myself, but the thing is that 90% of the things I want to do are impossible for me to do. I can't lift my dryer on top of my washer, and I doubt I can hang wall cabinetry on my own. The electrical stuff is stuff I can't do. I need to have power brought from different parts of the house to these new locations, that requires an electrician. The painting I could do but if I'm pregnant, I probably shouldn't be around the fumes. Same goes for the gardening. I can't be laying a rock wall, digging trenches or pulling out old plants when pregnant! So alas, I will probably have to hire most of this work out :(

Isn't it fun to plan and make improvements to your house! :happydance: So much fun!

We're move to a new home next month, but there is so much I want to do when we move in! I am starting with the laundry room because it is th smallest. We're on cycle one, so who knows when/if well get pregnant.....but doing the house is a priority!

HEHE :haha: sorry to laugh, but that is funny! Have you thought about a breast pump? I will probably have to consider one since I will be going back to work. Or your other option is to pick her up gently and have her latch while she sleeps! I've heard of that too!
