Welcome to 'Trying To Conceive Over 35'

Coy - Sorry about your T being sick again! I was reading up on this, and someone mentioned that room sprays (lysol) could be the cause? I remember you mentioning that you use it to disinfect the house. I have no idea if this is true or not, but maybe stop using it for a while? If not, from what I've read the best way to treat it is to remove the tonsils. I know my brother wishes he had had his out, but that surgery as an adult is not fun!

Twiggers - don't just use the OPKs you need to :sex: starting around CD 12! Here is another article that explains why: https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080719180040AAr8IMP

The important part is that it can take 15 mins to 12 hours for the :spermy: to GET to the egg, but sperm can hang out in the tube waiting for the egg to arrive. They apparently hang out and attach to the tube to gain nourishment and wake up when the egg appears. The egg releases a 'scent' that makes the sperm wake up and go crazy. So then they go and fertilize the egg.

I encourage you to get :sex: in BEFORE you even get a positive OPK. I promise you that it will help you get pregnant.

Angel - I'm so happy to hear you are doing the NTNP plan. I think it is your best plan. With our ages, you don't want to wait for life to be perfect. Is there any way your DH can find a job that he works more than 3 days a week? Maybe instead of you looking for a new job, he looks for a new one? Then once he gets a higher paying job you can find one nearby? IDK if that is possible, but I thought I'd ask.

Sams - per my comments to Twiggers, you hit the nail on the head with your timing! You want to hit the window BEFORE you O, and hitting the 2-3 days before is perfect. IMO it is best to get the :spermy: there to hang out to catch the egg, that and the more :spermy: that make it up there the better! You may be on to something here, maybe this is your month and you won't have to do IVF. I will say that while I'm not excited to do IVF, and it was not fun, it was not terrible. I've seen wimpier women then you get through it! So if this cycle is not successful, don't worry about it. I am sure you will be a trooper and make it through with flying colors.

Chantal - I'd never heard of sun screen being bad for pregnant women? Interesting. I would think that it would be better than getting sun burnt though right? I agree, staying in the shade and wearing a hat will be best. I wouldn't think that snorkeling would be bad? Wouldn't it be the same as swimming? You aren't going scuba diving, which I could see being an issue due to the pressure, but swimming at the surface of the water should be fine I think?

AFM - GRRR.. I think now I have an ear infection! How is that possible? I'm taking antibiotics, but my glands are swelling back up and my ear hurts and I have sinus pressure on my forehead again. I'm considering going out to the walk-in clinic since this is just not fun. I went back to bed for a while after taking some aleve, but my head is just getting worse by the hour. ARGH!

Coy - my next step is to go in for my baseline and ultrasound on Monday (time TBD as I will be calling them in the morning). Then they will put me on estrogen, I think I stab myself with it 2x a week? With increasing doses. Then at some point they will do the 2 biopsies and progesterone shots will begin. I think the biopsies will be around CD 18-24? That is also when the nightly progesterone shots will start. I hate those the most.

Re:sunscreen..retinyl palmitate is in some sun screens and has beenlinked tp cancer in rats, Oxybenzone, a common UV filter, has been shown to interact with hormones...Just suff I remember researching when I was preggo w/Aeryn. I followed the same advice and sought shade and big hats :haha:

And on the progesterone shots...I have heard supps are more effective (or as) can you do those instead of the shots?

Well if my FS would prescribe some that were affordable! The first kind, the crinone, was like having vaseline fall out of your (well you know where), it was disgusting. Then this time he attempted to prescribe Endometrium (sp) and it was $585 for 3 weeks! The progesterone in oil is only $45, and the past few times I've used it, my progesterone levels on 7DPO have been around 45-55 so that is a good level, they want it above 20. I have heard that there are suppositories that are way cheaper, but for some reason my FS doesn't prescribe them? IDK why. So until he comes up with something else that is affordable, I'll be stabbing myself in the ass :haha:

I just did my taxes, and it looks like I'm getting 100% of the money I paid back :yipee: I hate to say how much I spent in infertility but it was enough to get all my money back. That is insane, but it makes me happy because now I can do the reno on my house :wohoo: I just need one more form to come in the mail, and I'll be able to file. Then 2 weeks later REFUND!

Ali- lol at stabbing yourself in the ass! :haha: Too funny!...but true

Yay for your taxes! Get the ball rollin', right?

AFM- just finished cutting wood in a minor snow storm again...did my school for today...have been feeding dd's ALL day (must be growth spurts!) Now-dinner. Ugh, I am having body image issues :nope: lol! My waiste is 27" right now, is that bad? and hope not. Anyway saw Jolie on tv "one month" (so she said) after giving birth and she was uber skinny--but dh said she had a big butt :haha:

Angel- I know its a tough market... keep your job search up. Something will come up. What field do you work in?

Coy- Sounds like you need to take her to another doctor, if its her tonsils, the docs should have diagnosed her with it. I don't think its lysol, because she has a fever. It's definately an infection that won't go away... ugghh.

Ali- you are always so full of information. It's great. I have to say you gals have really helped me in figuring out my Ov time. I think in the beginning I was doing it to soon and with you guys I realized I don't really ov until around cd14 to cd 17... I thought it happened earlier. I have a list of drugs that they prescribed for me and they are coming in the mail.

Bravelle, Menopur, Ganirelix (250), HCG, Medrol, Doxycyline, Progesteroone in Oil, Endometrin and Estrace... I am so not drug happy. I wont event take vitamins for my own good. Yuck!

Angel- aaargh for stres, right? :gun: We women sure do have our share...Sounds like the toughr oad looking for work. I have been doing the same but as we own our home and have 3 kids it is tough to get up and move iykwim? This is the only home the girls have known so when we do move I want it to count for something great for them. As far as employment here- it sucks! There isn't any, so I have been trying online work atm.

Yes, T has strange symptoms. Fever of 101+, white spots, swollen tonsil--if I leave it all alone w/no treatment the throat become sore but they have tested for strep 3 times! negative each time  Then bloods for mono and it too was negative. I thought maybe a thrush of sorts and that's why Kat has it too? Kat gets itchy white bumps on her tummy and small patches of skin rash, hm. Ugh, hard to tell.

And I don't get it- something like echinacea keeps the spots away- which tells me immune system helps- but when she quits they come back in about 3 days!

Awesome feeling getting all your money back!!!!!

Coy- Your a tough lady... Love it (cutting wood) Soon I'm going to be injecting myself in the ass too, if I dont get a BFP! You'll be laughing at the both of us. Morning and night. :dohh:

I do try.. having been through this a few times and researching the heck out of everything has helped!

Your list of meds is perfectly normal. I'm surprised that you are going to have Endometrin and Progesterone in oil. They are pretty much the same thing different types of progesterone. One is an injectible and the other is a suppository. It was the endometrin that I balked at, I was told I had to put 3 suppositories in a day, and that each one was $6.99! What? I don't think so. So they said I could go back to the progesterone in oil. I did notice with the company I was buying from, that if I bought it as part of an IVF cycle they dropped the price down to $4.25, but since I'm doing FET they wouldn't give it to me at that price. :grr:

The thing is that you don't take them all at once, and some you only take for 4 days, or even just once. So while it sounds like a lot it really isn't too scary.

I agree! I would die for a 27" waist. Here is the thing about celebrities. They have nannies that look after their kids, cooks that cook nutritionally perfect meals for them, and personal trainers to whip them back into shape. So stop looking at Angelina Jolie! :dohh: She is not real. You are a real woman, and by God I am pretty sure everyone on this thread would kill to have a 27" waist! :haha:

They just sent me the list without instruction of when I take them. I will get my instructions when I go for my first sono and blood work on CD 2. I guess that is to make sure I'm not prego. I think I'm getting real excited or anxious. Don't know which one it is yet.:baby:

Yes, I had the same issues when I did my first IVF, I was like WTF? What is all this stuff? What does each do? Then just as I was getting my head around things, they would change things up! They will start you off with the stim meds (bravelle and menopur) then will see you back in 4-5 days. Then they'll take a peek at how you are progressing and will make decisions as to whether you have to increase or decrease your stims. I found it interesting to know that bravelle helps to recruit lots of follicles and menopur helps to grow them. So they may play with these meds up until you are ready to ovulate, to get you to get as many follicles to be mature. That is the goal, to have 10-25 follicles all between 16-24mm. Once you get to that point, then they will give you the go ahead to do the hCG, and then 36 hours later you'll have your ER.

Once you get going, you'll get all wrapped up in it, and before you know it, you'll be in the 2WW. The period between your first scan and bloodwork and ER flies by. Then between ER and ET its like time slows to a crawl. I was super anxious to hear about how my embryos were growing and how many I still had. Then after ET it is a few short days until you can start testing..

Thank-you Angel :hugs: This is truly a miracle after miscarriage and failed ivf cycles. I am praying several times a day.

Ali that is awesome that you are getting all your money back! :happydance:
Ear infections are awful. I suffered from them as a child. Sometimes my ear would have scabs in the ear canal and bleed on my pillow. It is just as painful as a toothache. I sympathize with you :hugs:
Dh would joke that we would have to call our baby Lex or Portia (after a Lexus or Porche) because Donor egg isn't covered and costs 29 k. So I told him on Valentine's that now our baby can have a good name because we just own the lottery by not having to do egg donor. :haha:

Samsfan you should get your Dh to give you injection in the butt. I can't imagine having to do it yourself. I numbed my butt with icepack and Dh stuck the trigger and it was done in no time!

Coy I hope your daughter feels much better soon!

Chantal- Miracles do happen... and children are miracles any way you look at them.

I'm hoping that I get my BFP this month and forget the needles...Am I asking for too much?

Samsfan I have seen that happen many times, women getting all their workup etc and then getting naturally pregnant just before Ivf. You are not asking for too much and I hope you get your :bfp:
:dust:
:dust:
Dh sprained his ankle last night helping his brother carry some wood for the fireplace in the basement. He missed his footing and fell down the last 2 steps dropping the wood. His ankle was the size of a golf ball! I have been applying ice and ankle bandage. Swelling has gone down a bit but it will be uncomfortable for him to fly. He can walk with a limp. I feel sorry for him cuz he has to lift the luggage as I cant lift anything heavy.I have been refusing all activities like skiing and iceskating because I didn't want either of us to have an accident just before our trip...

So neither of us is getting any sleep before 3am. I will probably sleep on the plane.

I will miss you all. Goodnight

Ouch! Sorry to hear about your DH's ankle! No fun :(

I found some 2 year old expired sinutab in the medicine chest. It had pseudophedrine and guaipfenisen, and that coupled with using my netty pot my sinuses are feeling better and my head is not throbbing! My ear is still tender, but improving. Now if only I could sleep!

Chantal- Enjoy your time! So sorry for DH. He will be fine... Just take ice and keep the leg elevated and tightly wrapped.

Alicatt- Hope you get well real soon!

Thanks Sam!

I found some sinutab in my medicine chest that expired in 2011  but out of desperation I took some of that last night and it made me feel a ton better. I brought the box with me to make sure I get some more of it on my way home. I figure I should get some that didn't expire 2 years ago! LOL.

Heading out now to the FS to have my baseline US and bloodwork. Can't wait to start injecting again. Am I ? I think so!!! I guess I equate injecting myself with moving forward with my cycle.
