Welcome to 'Trying To Conceive Over 35'

Hi ladies and good to hear about your success Phil:thumbup:.

I actually wanted to ask you all about this. After my failed IVF last month we are looking to TTCN, and I should now be ovulating or about to ovulate.

Have any of you not ovulated normally right after IVF?

Either I missed my cycle by a few days, or I'm just not ovulating.
I'm using a generic OPK (Guardian, a large pharmacy chain in Singapore) as they are a little cheaper, but I don't want to sacrifice money for accurate readings. Especially when I'm not getting any....

Best of luck with your IUI Phil.

Hi Ladies!
Grey Eyes, it's so exciting to see your scans!! I hope to be joining you in a couple of weeks!!
ByAnyMeans, all I can tell you is that for months I wasn't sure I was ovulating because I would use one OPK and sometimes when I was using the ones with the lines it would look like the surge was coming (line kept getting darker and darker) and then not reach the same as or darker than the test line, but get fainter or disappear altogether. Sometimes I would use a monitor and it never indicated I had ovulated at all. I was getting disheartened.
This time around, maybe because we wanted to be certain, or why go through the expense of IUI without giving it your all... perhaps my mentality was in for a penny in for a pound...
I bought 4 digital opk's and 1 with the lines. I had 3 digi 1st Responses, 1 digi Clearblue, and 1 regular clearblue.
On the day I surged, I got smiley faces from the Clearblue digi (I did some extra strips at different times to confirm!) and the regular one had a very, very clearly darker line. Of the 1st Response OPK's only one ever changed to yes, with the other two never giving me anything but a -No ....... SO IMHO it is good to have backup confirmation, because if I had only gone with one OPK and it was defective, I might have thought, yet again, that I didn't surge.....
I know 5 seems over the top, but I readily admit I was a little crazy this month.... my DH admitted to me after I showed him all the results, that he did think I was nuts for getting 5 different opks but that he absolutely sees the value in it given our results. It was an expensive opk month for us, but if I get my BFP then it will all be worth it.
I believe that although the OPKs say they are 99% accurate, that we need to remember that is in a lab setting and for whatever reason, they may not be as accurate in public use....
The other thing to keep in mind, is that my DH and I have been diagnosed with 'unexplained infertility' which means that we've done all the tests... he's fine, I'm fine, my tubes are open, I'm ovulating and my uterus looks good... So with the doc saying I'm ovulating for sure, it was easier to swallow the cost of the extra opks because I just didn't want to miss the surge at all!
Good Luck!

Marathon Girl, I was drinking a little coffee until the day before I surged.... now I'm off it until I get some confirmation..... just in case..... how many days until you can test this cycle?
I'm on CD15 and 1DPO now

I'm glad it all worked for you this month Phil:hugs: Fx'd for a sticky bean. You didn't take any Clomid or anything right just natural IUI?

Byanymeans- I would strongly suggest you temp and record so you know for sure if you O or not. I only ever use the regular opk with the 2 lines and have maybe missed my surge once in 7 months? I never worry too much because dh and I always bd lots in the window and I have my temps to tell me that I o'd. It is not a guarantee that just because you have a lh surge that you will ov. Also your o might be delayed if you were taking drugs like Clomid with your IVF cycle. It might just take a bit for your body to get back:shrug:

AFM- 6dpo today and just waiting it out.Feeling positive and happy:flower:

Hi ladies, this thread sure is quiet...hope you are all doing well today.

Marathongirl- your temps are still looking good

Phil- are you temping this cycle with the IUI at all?

AFM- my girls are driving me crazy today, I guess that's how I know it's the weekend :haha: I am hungry all of the time today and don't have any clue what I am hungry for :dohh: Let's see...I'll play it safe and say...Ice cream? :haha:

Ice cream sure sounds good!!! Hope you are eating lots! You must be feeling way better.
I am just with Dd as Ds is away with his Dad at a hockey tournament. Feel sad that I'm missing out. Started to cry last night when I talked to him on the phone:shrug:

Marathongirl- 8 dpo today? Your temps are nice and steady and staying high  Got my fx'd for you :) What was your temp this morning? Hope you are feeling better today and your dh is home soon :friends:

Darn you didn't have that ice cream:shrug: maybe today? Fx'd for you but I'm sure everything will be fine now you are in your second tri!!:happydance:
Yes 8 dpo today and temp was the same 98.2. I find it weird that they are so steady, they used to be more erratic? Maybe it's the Chinese herbs? this should be my last cycle taking them. My TCM doctor said I am 75% better.

Sweet! I keep watching your chart...I am glad you are feeling better, what kind of Chinese herbs??

And yes, last night dh and I stayed up past our bedtime (lol) and had ice cream and watched Dr. Who  We are a strange pair

That sounds so sweet:flower:
I have been taking herbs for the last 2 months to warm my uterus. I have been feeling a lot better and warmer. I used to be cold all of the time and now not so much. I think all of the training I did after my other kids really depleted my body and now it's taking it's toll on my fertility. I feel much better and my TCM doctor says that everything looks and feels better. They look at your tongue and eyes and ears as well as listen to your pulse. Even though my temps look good I'm not holding out too much hope as I feel the same as every other month except for the weepiness:shrug:

Hi ladies, I am getting lonesome on here! :haha: Where is everybody?

Marathongirl- hows the temp today? Are you feeling better or still ? (We all have days like that :hugs:)

Phil- where are you? How is everything? Updates!! :friends:

AFM- feeling good today, just finishing up another assigment for criminal procedures, chasing our Boston Terrier (she escaped under the fence rotten dog) and trying to figure out dinner.....I think homemade tacos....

Hi!! I'm at work and have had a super busy day so no BnB time:growlmad: Homemade tacos sound great:thumbup: My kids love them too. We have them at least once a week.
I am feeling a bit better today,no tears. My temp had a bit of a spike today at 98.4 so who knows:shrug:
Glad to have you to talk to:hugs:
Just found out that Ds won his x-country running race today and Dd was 6th for 4th grade girls!!

Marathongirl- wow, atheletics must be genetic! Congrats for your kiddo's great achievments! I bet you are proud!:)

The spike sounds positive, I was looking over your other charts...why is the fourth back a blue (or was it purple?>>>) crosshairs instead of red like the others? Does that indicate something? I am still trying to figure hose things out!

Thanks. I have no idea about the different colored cross hairs:shrug:
We will see what happens tomorrow? I know that I haven't see a temp that high since my last BFP:shrug:

Hi Ladies!
I am still here.... but holy cow, have I ever been totally hormonal this weekend. I woke up on Saturday feeling irritable and my DH kept asking what was wrong until I yelled "I don't KNOW what's wrong!"
*sigh*
way hormonal on Saturday.... cried after that outburst and I couldn't seem to get it under control. I felt awful.... I don't ever remember being so out of sorts before....
maybe it means a sticky bean this month?
Sunday was a little better.... but was tired... and today was even better... I was by myself for much of it and that seemed to help. I was afraid to say anything to anyone the last few days because it was always coming out wrong...
Today my emotions seem relatively back to normal, but my face has been flushed since dinner time.... is that an early symptom? maybe my bean is burrowing in tonight? might be all in my head... but here's hoping! I'm about to go to bed now... DPO5 tomorrow....
Grey Eyes.... I'm craving tacos now!! darn it!!
We go for a follow up with the baby doc tomorrow, so will get my hormone numbers and follicle count etc then, I guess.... if I remember to ask for it! *grin*
chat later!!!
phil.

Hello, Ladies! Could you ladies help me? I am very confused and worried about my cycles.

In August, I’ll be 38 years old. In late 2007, I was diagnosed by my RE with Adult Growth Hormone Deficiency for which I take a nightly shot of growth hormone. I have been told that I have a “touch” of PCOS. (My sister had the classic textbook case of PCOS, and it eventually led to Endometrial Cancer and a hysterectomy for her. She was diagnosed by Dr. Robert Greenblatt in 1975 and then diagnosed with Endometrial Cancer in 2005. She had her hysterectomy in 2007.)

My periods have always been regular. Maybe twice since I’ve been menstruating have I missed an entire period, but I’ve read that this is normal. I started my periods when I was 11 close to turning 12. For years, I always had heavy periods with very painful cramping.

I started seeing a gynecologist in 2000, my first time ever going to one. I’ve seen at least three reproductive endocrinologists before the RE my husband and I go to now. Those 3 REs would never get any farther really than telling me lose weight and that would make everything better.

My PCOS symptoms are weight gain, high cholesterol, fluctuating high levels of testosterone, and hair growth on my face. I weigh about 250 and am a little less than 5 foot 4 inches.

The RE and my regular doctor I was seeing before my current doctor kept insisting I should take birth control pills and Metformin along with the Spironolactone I was already taking. I would turn them down until I finally gave in.

I was so naïve, I couldn’t understand why my period was almost non-existent at first while on the pill. My regular doctor explained it to me. I kept on taking the pill for two or three years. Now I wish I had never taken it at all.
My period was regular and had good bright red blood. Since I’ve taken the pill, my periods are still regular but are usually old brown blood and I barely spot on the pad in the middle of the period and then maybe a little more shows on the pad near the end. Sometimes I would only know that I was still having the period is when I wiped after using the bathroom.

I’ve been trying to remember how many days my cycles usually ran when I was younger. (My Mama encouraged me to keep a calendar each month of my cycle, when I started. I did for a while and then let it go. I should have kept it up.) I swear I was 28 days then. I know later on, I became more of the same day each month.

Recently, I have gone back to 28 days. In January, I started ever so lightly spotting on New Year’s Day and started on January 2nd. I had my next period start on January 29th. I should have started again on February 26th.

On Friday afternoon, February 18th, I suddenly became really ill with horrible vomiting. I still don’t know what happened except I had a bad pain under my right ribs come up out of nowhere. I suspect I made had eaten too much fiber rich foods maybe that day up to that point. I started feeling better that Saturday afternoon, although I was still shaky for a couple of days.

I found myself spotting so faintly on February 21st and starting on February 22nd. I had tried using ovulation strips after my last January period, but I didn’t realize I needed to wait 10 minutes to read them. I saw that one line coming up right away, so I threw them on out discouraged.

The day I was sure I was completely finished with my February period, February 29th, I started using the ovulation strips again. On Sunday, March 4th, I finally saw a faint second line. Then on March 6th, I finally saw a much darker line. I can’t say for certain if I did ovulate. The line never looked as dark as the first line.

Each day after this that I tested, the second line would slowly get lighter and then disappeared by March 11th.

On March 18th, I started. This time, I had moderate cramps starting on March 11th. I bloated terribly and was so tired. These PMS symptoms were ones I was used to when I was younger. My flow was moderate on the first day. The next three days were very heavy and full of bright red blood. The last day of that period was the brown blood.

I started using the strips on March 25th. This time, I was seeing anything but one line. When I tested on April 9th, I did see a faint second line and the same the next day. On April 11th, the second I took the strip out of the urine, a second line as dark as the first appeared. I was amazed at how quickly and how dark the strip appeared.

The next day, the second line was faint. On April 13th, the second line was gone.

In March, if that was a positive ovulation, the darkest line appeared a week after my period ended. This time, 18 days later, I seemed to get what I guess was a positive result.
I haven’t had my period yet for April. I haven’t had any definite signs of PMS. I have had to urinate a lot which can be a symptom for me. I did have to go “#2” on and off more but it hasn’t been too bad.

I did have a sudden and bad lower backache Saturday while grocery shopping with my DH. It was all across my lower back and radiated down into my right leg. I was certain that this was it for my period starting.

When we got home later, I still hurt but not as bad and then it didn’t hurt.

I’m worried because of my age. I try to tell myself that my Mama had me when she was 40 and her Mama had her last child when Grandma was 45.

What do you ladies think? I did two pregnancy tests – One on Monday afternoon and one this morning – Not because I thought I was pregnant. Ironically, any time I have gotten my hopes up that I might be pregnant and I have taken a test, I end up starting the same day. Naturally both tests were negative.

I started taking Fertility Blend For Women on April 12th. My DH has been taking the Fertility Blend For Men since for almost a year now. I’ve always been careful about taking anything which I thought my mess up a regular cycle, but since I’m not sure if I’m ovulating, I decided to try the Fertility Blend.

I’m taking –
Vitamins Taking As Of April 2012
1. Fertility Blend For Women (Three A Day – Twice In The Morning/Once In The Evening)
2. Spring Valley Cinnamon Plus Chromium 500mg
(Twice A Day - Once In The Morning/Once In The Evening)
3. Spring Valley Super B-Complex (Once A Day - Once In The Morning)
4. Spring Valley All Natural Regular Strength Fish Oil 1000mg
(Three A Day – Twice In The Morning/Once In The Evening)
5. GNC Women’s Ultra Mega Time Released Caplets Dietary Supplement
(Twice A Day – Once In The Morning/Once In The Evening)

Right now, I’ve really been taking all of this at night. I’m trying to get organized.

If you ladies could give me your advice I would really appreciate your help.
Thanks!

Georgia- I would start to keep track of your cycles more closely. The only way to know that you're ovulating or not is by doing your temp or bbt. You can download charts or even better yet you can download the ff app on your phone and record your temp on there. They have a lot of info on fertility friend about charting. You need to see a definite temp rise between pre and post o temps to know that your are ovulating. The pos opk only tells you that you have ah lh surge. Chances are you are ovulating but it wouldn't hurt to confirm. This way you can track your cycle and it's length which is important you will also be able to pinpoint your luteal phase which is the number of days after ovulation in your cycle. Too few days can be a problem. Ideally you want 12-14 but they say 10 is adequate:hugs::hugs:

Thanks!

Hi there and welcome to the forum! I know for me the biggest concern I had was that I wasn't sure I was ovulating, but my doc sent me for a CD19 Bloodwork test and they can tell by the level of progesterone whether you are ovulating or not. I did try to do the temping before that without any definitive results, and OPKs until last month never seemed to 'definitively' say whether I even got the LH surge.
I would ask your doc if you can get the bloodwork because I know for myself it really, really put me at ease just knowing I 'was' ovulating definitively!

Good evening Ladies!
AFM- DH and I went to see the baby doc today and he said my CD2 bloodwork results were outstanding... my FSH levels are perfect and everything else is doing stellar. I took Clomid this cycle just to up our chances and we had a lot of discussion about the effects it had on me. If we are pregnant this cycle, then we never have to go there again... thank god! Way too hormonal and bitchy and just not comfortable in my own skin... so he's switched my prescription to another drug, I'm blanking on the name at the moment, that does the same thing, just as effectively but without all the crazy hormonal-ness!! My DH was very appreciative! The doc actually apologized to us for how nuts I was!
I am very hopeful we won't need to go through another round...
Today my breasts are getting heavy and sore (but could be pre period) and I'm just starting to feel more tired than normal. And perhaps I noticed a little spot of blood on my undies?? perhaps???
timing would be right, I think....
So here's hoping all that baby dust you sprinkled my way worked it's magic, Grey Eyes!!
Phil.
