Welcome to 'Trying To Conceive Over 35'

Hello ladies, good day. A little good news for me - finally found DHEA in Singapore, picking it up today.

Had to get a prescription, even that took a fair amount of doing.

Then trying to find it - none of the retail chemists sell it, only a couple of the government hospital pharmacies carry it.

Will get 3 bottles of 60 tabs, 25mg each. Have already started on the CoQ10, Vit C, Vit E. Any other recommendations?

I'm just trying to see the little good things as they occur. And maybe I can help some others who see this journey as it happens.

Good job with the DHEA. The jury is still out on that one for me:shrug: I'm a bit scared of the side effects but I have heard that it does improve egg quality. As for the Chinese Medicine stuff I would recommend a book called 'The Infertility Cure' by Randine Lewis. It's awesome and there are lots of success stories. There are also explanations about how TCM works for instance it is known that blood flow to the ovaries and uterus is about 1/5 in your 40's what it was in your 20's. Things like acupuncture and certain massage techniques can improve this and thus improve the egg quality. It takes 120 days for an egg to go from just an egg in the ovary to being the one that is released during ovulation therefore what you do for the 120 days leading up to that egg being released will effect it's quality. Anyways I cold go on but if you are interested I would read it:hugs:

Happy Days, Ladies!
Hi Grey Eyes! I am glad to see you are still doing well and your bean is sticking and growing! SO happy for you!
Marathon Girl, it looks like you and I are still working on it, but I am glad to see you are still here!
Welcome to those who are new since I last posted!.... so much has happened - here's a quick update:
So I was feeling overwhelmed and down last time I was on here and AF showed herself... I needed a break from peeing in cups and on sticks and taking temps and watching symptoms... it was wearing on me....
So during the last month or so, I did all those tests the doc sent me for and he says I am definitely ovulating and that my eggs looks good, more or less, and that we are classified as a couple with 'unexplained infertility'.... which I read as "don't have the timing just right yet"....
So not bad news.... but as we were sitting there and chatting with the doc, we, all three decided to go ahead with IUI and try that for the next three months. Seems straight forward enough.... I will take a round of clomid and use the OPK's and when I get a positive, I call and we go in the next day.... dh does his thing and a few hours later, I go in and they put the washed and sparkly swimmers right where they need to be.... like a super boost! then we just wait and hope the bean sticks!
I will continue to take maca and I plan on eating a tonne of tapioca! anything to help keep things going the right way... and no caffeine as soon as AF is finished... for now, I need it .... and maybe a wine as well... LOL

So the other thing keeping me busy the last few weeks is that we got officially married! *chuckle*
We've been living together for what seemed a million years, but my dh officially proposed and we are officially married now! very fun! It did a good job of keeping me distracted for the last while and less focussed on not being pregnant yet.
Although, I don't recommend planning a wedding in 6 weeks... pretty stressful!
So I'm back now...
how is everyone feeling today??

Good morning ladies. I have an update for you. :coffee: (that's tea)

But first, thanks to Marathon Girl for the suggestions and the book, which I'm interested to look into. And a quick Google search revealed this YT clip on the author: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9UpaROkoQK8

So....at dinner last night, as I don't like to take supplements without food, I take 50mg of my 75mg daily dose of DHEA. As I didn't get home from picking up the stuff until 6pm or so, I figured first the first day I'd just take 50mg.

Big mistake!](*,) - I was up all night. At first I didn't know why the prescription read to take 75mg in the morning, as I've read on a forum that some ladies are spacing their dose out during the day. One of the know side effects is insomnia, and I sure had it last night.

Even more odd as when I went to bed I was so tired, so wiped out I thought the DHEA was having the exact opposite effect.

Live and learn......

I have more, but in a separate post.

Ok, here’s that other post. This is about tea, Actually I’ll have one more, on DHEA concerns.

I may have mentioned that my only vice is tea – I never drink alcohol but I love drinking tea, and drink it often. Now I’m beginning to think it may have hurt me. Maybe.

I’ve been researching this and simple Google searches show warnings on some teas, some of which I have been drinking.

Of course, there is a lot of misinformation out there, so always Google with care, and don’t believe everything you read. It seems much of this refers to what to / not to consume while pregnant, I am assuming it applies to getting pregnant, but that may be the wrong assumption.

https://irene.hubpages.com/hub/Foods-to-Avoid-During-Pregnancy - also has a list of some books on Amazon on what to / not to eat

https://www.americanpregnancy.org/pregnancyhealth/herbaltea.html - has a long list but the comments readers posted give cause for concern

https://www.babycentre.co.uk/pregnancy/isitsafeto/herb&drugchart/?_requestid=19710282 – good practical advice and the reasons behind it

https://lisa-simonelli-rennie.suite101.com/herbal-teas-to-avoid-during-pregnancy-a158115 :
Herbal Teas Considered Safe During Pregnancy - The following list of herbs are considered to be safe to drink while pregnant (1):
ginger
lime
thyme
barley
peppermint

Herbal Teas Considered Unsafe During Pregnancy - Certain herbs can potentially stimulate the uterus and unintentionally induce miscarriage or labor if consumed in large amounts. These include (1):
chamomile
ephedra
licorice root
raspberry leaf
anise
sage
rosemary
hibiscus
lemongrass
sassafras
nettle leaf
fennel

So the word ‘considered’ and the author not being a medical doctor means Caveat emptor.

https://www.babycenter.com/0_herbal-teas-during-pregnancy_3537.bc :
Is it safe to drink herbal teas while I'm pregnant?

Many pregnant women carefully avoid caffeine, alcohol, nicotine, and unnecessary medications but think nothing of drinking cup after cup of herbal tea. If this sounds like you, take heed: Herbal teas can be harmful, especially if you drink too much of them. Most of the ingredients in herbal teas are safe, but many are not. Herbs are drugs and thus can be as potent as some medications. What's more, only a few of the herbs used for teas have been studied in pregnant women.

Which teas are not safe? Many of the herbs used for teas, when taken in large or medicinal amounts, can potentially stimulate the uterus and induce miscarriage.

-------------------------------------
These are just some of what I uncovered, but I clearly need to do more research, and in the meantime, I'm going to be more conscious of what I drink.

Gooood morning ladies! I hope you are all feeling good today :hugs: Good to have you all as :friends:

Good to have you as well as a friend:hugs: hope you are rested from your ordeal last week. Are you feeling more energetic and less sick these days?

Philomena- good to have you back and congrats on the wedding!! I just got married last summer so pretty new for me as well. I hope you have success with your IUI.

Byanymeans- thanks for the clip on Dr. Lewis. I really do believe in that stuff. I wish I could go to one of her retreats but I have good people here too so.... I don't drink any teas but I find it quite interesting that there are so many that are not recommended. I drink only water and the odd steamed soy or Lmond milk. I have really cut down on the soy as was recommended from my acupuncturist but I love hot drinks so I switched to almond milk with a little sugar.

AFM- cd9 today. Will start opk on cd11 I only test once a day so we are in the Zone!!

Hi Ladies!
I am off coffee and tea for now... what gets me through is hot water with a slice of lemon in it. I order that at restaurants and I don't feel the need to have coffee or tea. It saves me!
I am feeling hopeful and optimistic this month. I started my clomid yesterday and today I am on CD4. I start with the OPK's tomorrow and yes, I have decided to buy multiple kits so I don't miss it! Crazy, but I just want everything to go as planned this month! I keep reminding myself that once we get that BFP it will all be so totally worth it. I can pee into a cup for a while longer! *chuckle*
I ordered 50 yards of linen fabric to make an Italian Renaissance gown.... completely as a way to continue to keep myself distracted during this month and maybe next month, too if we need to go again.
Thanks for being patient with me, ladies.... it means a lot to me that you are here!
So deep breaths all around and Grey Eyes, spread a little of your baby dust over the forum!! *grin*
Phil.

Marathongirl- almond milk with sugar? Is that good? I grew up in Alaska so I love hot drinks as well...for the past few months (since my bfp and before) I have not had any tea or coffee, so am missing my hot drinks as well. I had never considered soy or almond milk. Is it good and safe for baby? I shall have to research it.

I am currently baking an pineaple upside down cake...I haven't made one of those since I was a kid so hope it turns out  Cooking is my meditation, so I have been cooking a lot lately trying to de-stress! Last week was a huge stress, but it is getting a bit better now :) Thanks!

Pineapple upside down cake!! I haven't had that since I was a kid either:thumbup: It's so good. I like to bake rather than cook so I do that to relax sometimes. As for the almond milk there is absolutely nothing that will harm the baby. I put a bit of sugar although most of it is already sweetened a bit. It's so yummy. Of course soy is my favorite because it's much more creamy but I try not to drink too much. They say there are phytoestrogens in soy that may interfere with hormonal balance so I only let myself have soy when af arrives until it's done then I switch to almond milk:flower:
AFM- cd10 today and feeling good. Looking forward to tww:thumbup:

Marathongirl- fairly steady temp range so far! Tww is just around the corner now :) How are you feeling?

I know- I love pineapple upside down cake! I just melted a stick of butter and poured it into the bottom of a rectangluar cake pan (sprayed with oil) then dumped a cup of brown suger in with it, mixed it, spread it around and then set my pineapple in it. Then I mixed a yellow cake and oured over that and baked at 350 for 40 minutes. Very easy and mmmm:)

Today was stressful, we had carpenters over, meetings with attorneys, court appointments, meetings with the mayor and chief of police  All good for us of course, but still a headache and a half. Glad that part is over- for now anyway!
I have 4 days left of progesterine and am waiting for a call from my doc...he may suggest that I skip a few days in between to wean off of this but maybe not  My next appointment is next Wednesday the 11th. We will all go so got my fx'd for great news again! :)

Fx'd for you!!:hugs: Can't wait to hear and see if you could put a pic on for us to see.

Thanks for checking in with me. A weird month in a way and I want to ask your opinion because I know you scutinize everything like I do:flower: So.... cd12 today didn't opk yesterday because forgot to bring it to work. I always start on cd11 and only test once a day. I thought it wasn't that big a deal because I NEVER get a pos before cd12. I have also been checking my cervical pos and it has been high and soft since cd10. Checked opk today and barely a line so I'm thinking that I missed the surge? I'm thinking it was probably pos yesterday and I know I haven't o'd because my temp hasn't one up like it usually does. I think Io'd today as I had some distinct pains in my belly this am. Should've stayed in bed and dtd but I think I will still be covered if we bd tonight and tomorrow am and we also bd cd8,9 and 10. Only skipped yesterday which was cd11:shrug: What do you think:shrug:

Marathongirl- I think with your dtd dates you are definately covered! Also- if you don't usually ov this early maybe you haven't missed the surge? Do you usually ov about cd 11 or so? I think it's not that big a deal anyway because your dtd dates are solid  Try not to worry! :) Maybe go ahead and test again in the evening and for another day? Just to see if your line gets any darker. If it continues to get lighter then I think you are correct in that you ovulated already. But your dates are good, no big deal if you didn't dtd on ovulation day, as sperm live sup to 5 days anyway!:dust:

Thanks for that! We will dtd tonight just to cover if I o'd today and I will retest tomorrow. I will also know if my temp goes up tomorrow:shrug: I wll let you know and you can stalk my chart. I have been o'ing day 13 the last 2 cycles so not that weird if I o on cd12:shrug:

Chart stalker :haha: lol! It's easy to do in this ttc business! :friends:

Marathongirl- your temps are pretty steady so far...mine didn't jump to 98.6 until a day after I got my bfp on frer about 11 dpo. Cycle lengths may have a lot to do with what to expect as far as temps too  I am still learning but catching on! :)

Hi Grey eyes. How are you today? You must be almost 12 weeks!! Wow it seems as though it has gone by really fast:wacko:
A little update on me. So retested yesterday and opk was a bit darker but still not positive. Today it was positive so it looks like I am going to O today or tomorrow. We will see what the temp is tomorrow? Here I thought I missed it but it just happened a bit later. Glad I was testing with opk because I would never have known. WE dtd last night and the night before and will tonight and I should be covered I would think:shrug::winkwink:
