Welcome to 'Trying To Conceive Over 35'

Ali...I am a fitness competitor. I always say it is a step down from body-building. (I don't want to look like a man.:nope:) I tried changing my profile pic to a piture from my last competition. If it changes, I am the girl on the right. I try to stay in shape. I've worked out all my life...I even taught aerobics until I was 8 months pregnant with my son and was back at teaching again when he was 6 weeks old.

Ok...I'm glad you will still be chatting with us. I was getting worried! :winkwink: I hope you get pregnant before you leave!!! :happydance:

Well, I keep getting an error message when I try to uplaod the picture.

AHH.. OK. Cool! Sounds like fun, and also a lot of work. Well hopefully you can continue to train and also try to get pregnant! Best of luck!!!
Maybe their servers are having issues, I'll keep checking to see if your photo gets updated!!

I think it finally worked...:) That is me on the right...

Jess- wow! Awesome pic! I love to work out but after my mc in November I really laid off. I usually just maintain basic fitness but after this baby I ntend to really crack down. I love the rush you get when you work out! I always feel so good afterwards. Last summer I had a flat hard tummy, slim muscular thighs, I even managed a tan somehow! lol, and now this summer ... well, enough said  I am at 132 and starting my sixth month of pregnancy...My ideal body weight is about 110 but one thing I discovered- I threw the weight scale away! :haha: The more I worked out and built my arms and legs, etc, the heavier I got! Then dh (used to body build) told me muscle is heavier than fat :dohh: so I don't worry about any more :)

I would love some excersize tips from you! I still do squats and lunges with my weights, and I lift weights for my arms...I tore both rotator cuffs at work a few years ago so I have some minor stiffness in them ocassionally. I am trying to sculpt my shoulders more, e.g., and keep the backs of my arms tight and hard. Got any tips? I don't have a gym here :sad1: but keep weight bar, free weights, and an adjustable weight machine ... it's in the garage :( which means I gotta clean it out :haha:

AFM- 40 minutes to my scan...:happydance:...Dh may not be able to attend this one but that's okay if he can't I understand. Sometimes his diabetes makes life rough. The acids in the glucose is attacking his muscles and he is always ina ton of pain. With his old war wounds, etc, and the damage sustained it is those weaker or damaged areas that the glucose attacks first. He's a tough guy, my absolute hero! He's got bullet scars all over and huge slash scars across his chest and torso where a knife almost got the best of him...he actually had to stitch himself up - from the inside out no less, one layer after another (his intestines were coming out ) lol. Not sure if I mentioned it or not before but he's a total Marine :cloud9: I call him my Die Hard man :) Anyway apart from that if hid glucose has been high it's a nightmare for him so I usually tell him to concentrate on conquering that and I can handle my stuff unless of course something is going wrong or once labour begins at full term.

How tall are you? 132 in your 6th month!! I sure hope you are a shorty! Lol! I am 5'4" and I am at my off season weight of 140. Competition time I am about 130. You are right about the scale. Supossedly my ideal weight is about 130. But I am almost a size ZERO when I compete at 130. I am between a 4 and a 6 right now. It is not that muscle is heavier than fat. It is that a pound of muscle takes up less space than a pound of fat. :winkwink: I have a muscular build, but not like a man. :haha:...still very feminine. :winkwink:

I would love to give you some workout tips! I was a trainer all through college. I will put some stuff together and send it to you. :hugs:

So got my fx'd for you Ali! Don;t go to Canada and not visit girl we are counting on your reports :haha: Re: the ovaries. Where the one tube is pretty much blocked I would think that the left ovary would release  but I understand your concern...I am going to research it and see what I can find out. In fact I think I'll ask the tech when I go to hospital today...

Btw- anybody know what I can do to get baby to setttle down for pictures? Funny little thing was a summersaulting little gymnast last week and wouldn't hold still for anything! Tech thought for certain I had loaded up on sugar before I came, but nope....(his last appointment the teenage mother had drank a Rockstar before coming in! OMG that is soooo bad for your baby! Taurine, creatine)...I am thinking I will refrain from consuming anything at this point. I had toast and half a cup of coffee about two hours ago is all. I am worried it will cause LO to go bouncy again  We'll see!

Fx'd ladies!

You are taller than me!! And weigh much less!!! Lol! So funny! Even with my son I was 132 when I got pregnant with him. and 160 when I delivered. You are TINY!!!

I think it finally worked...:) That is me on the right...

Have you talked to your doctor about competing, body fat, etc?

I'm pretty thin. I do have regular periods and have confirmed ovulation. However, I have read that fat produces estrogen, which is needed to build a thick endometrial wall. Therefore, I have been trying to gain a bit of weight, specifically fat. I cut my workouts to just walking and light weightlifting and have added more olive oil, nuts, and ice cream (!) to my diet.

I will meet with the doctor later this week for my first pre-conception appointment. Maybe she'll tell me I'm being silly.

What do you think?

I did talk to my OBGYN and FS about working out anf my body fat etc. My body fat only drops when I get ready to compete. right now I am at a healthy 14%. I have regular periods even when I compete. I eat avocados, almonds, and I use olive oil for cooking, etc. to get my omega 3s and other essential fatty acids. I LOVE LOVE LOVE ice cream. But I oly eat it once in a while. I also eat red meat once a week and chicken, fish, and turkey the rest of the time. I am pretty healthy. My doctor says she still has a hard time believing I am 40. My FS was looking at my ovaries and said "these don't look like 40 year old ovaries!" I asked him if he was making a pass at me!!

Jess, Coy, and FirstTry...

I wish I had your issues! I'm the opposite. I am a little on the chunky side ;) That is putting it nicely. I have been working on my weight and have lost 20 lbs in the past 3 months. I really need to lose another 60. Thing is that I've been trying to lose this weight for 3 years and putting off having a baby to do so. Now its just not feasible. I need to have the baby first then worry about the weight.
I have heard that women that have a body fat percentage less than 20%, can have trouble with their cycles. However if your cycles are regular, then it sounds like all is well? I don't think I would worry about it unless your FS mentions it.

Coy - thanks for doing some research, I just don't know what to think! I do go back on Thursday for another scan to see where my follicles are at that point. Glad to hear you are off to get another ultrasound, I hope your little one is taking a nap ;) We don't need him/her to be a gymnast today! :haha: As for your husband, he sounds like a gem, and I don't blame you for giving him a break. He has worked hard and put himself in the line of duty for us, and now he just needs to take some time for himself ;) Sounds like you have a solid marriage, congrats!!!

AFM - well I'm single, but I am dating, and he is pretty great. We only just started dating a few months ago, and I just didn't want him to be pressured into being a dad. That is why I went the route of using donor sperm. He is OK with my decision, although he is worried how he is going to feel if I am successful and so on. He isn't sure he wants the responsibility of being a dad which while he isn't technically the dad, he would end up having some of the responsibility just by osmosis. We have kind of tabled the discussion, and I guess we will figure it out if/when it is an issue.

 that is funny! That would be the craziest pass I have ever heard!!

Wow! Where was your husband when he was wounded? My ex-Husband is a marine and my son wants to be a marine (although I'd rather him be a pilot in the airforce!).
Sewed up himself!! Really!! Eeewh!! He sounds like a SUPER TOUGH guy!!

Well, I have never had issues with my cycle. Always been pretty regular. Like I said, even when I compete and reach about 10% body fat, my cycles are still regular.

That is awesome Jess! I wish I had the dedication to be that fit!!

Ali...it is only because I come from a family of very unhealthy...obese...individuals. And I see what it has done to their quality of life. I want more for me and my family. Just hoping I can be a good role model!! :)

My body fat is 15.8% and my BMI is 18.4, so I'm probably fine. But if a little more fat might help and DH is supportive of me gaining it, bring on the ice cream :)

I have been eating ice cream almost every day (my dream come true), but it's still counter-intuitive for me to eat fatty foods after years of seeking low fat, high fiber foods and lots of veggies.
