Welcome to 'Trying To Conceive Over 35'

Hello everyone!
So sorry for being so MIA when so much has been going on... .
Ali, I am so sorry it wasn't the news we were hoping for today! As you said, it's a good time to get a few ducks in a row and be ready for the next try!
GreyEyes, I'm sorry your hubby is being a man.... *grin* ..... sometimes I think they just don't get it... you might find that your mood improves when your iron level does, too.... good luck tomorrow... start eating lots of roughage because if they put you on a supplement it's bound to slow your system down some more!!

Alin, I'm so excited for you to test!! it's so close! FX for you!

Jess, the job interviewing sounds like it's going really well!

Everyone else, I'm still getting caught up on the 20-ish pages I've missed whilst being away, so if I've missed you, just know that I'm glad to have you here and I'm rooting for everyone to get their sticky beans!!

AFM, well, so I was a sewing crazy woman to get my outfit finished in time for the event this weekend and the night before I had to go, I had a wardrobe malfunction with the new shift (underclothes) and got frustrated and said to heck with it!
I forgot I had another shift which I could have used in its place - not the right style, but made of linen and would have been an ok stand in for the weekend... so since I forgot about that one, I ended up using the silk purple one I made for my wedding.... right style... but silk can be toasty.... *sigh*
I did a really good job all saturday of staying coolish until I decided to go lay down in my tent for a little bit... it's a modern tent, not a canvas tent... so it was like a sauna... I had a short nap and when I woke up, my face was tomato red and I wasn't thinking clearly or able to put a sentence together... My friend, Kat, took one look at me as I climbed out of the tent and said 'get into the trailer and sit under the fan for a bit'... which I obediently did... I felt a little better, and we all went to feast... I was a little emotional... but I think it was down to the heat exhaustion... my body can't regulate like it usually does, and it can't recover as quickly as it usually does... I did drink about 3 litres of water through the day, so I never got dehydrated which is good...
when I ate, I felt much, much better, and was fine until court (different court from you, Coy!) We were in a hall and there were about 300 people there... We had barons and baronesses, and the prince and princess all there... it was their royal court... loads of fun to watch as people I know were called up to receive awards and distinctions... lots of pomp and ceremony which I love... and then it hit me... the ambient temp had risen in a slow boil to the point I could no longer stand to wear my overgown... I turned to a friend behind me and managed to work out enough words that he understood and came to my rescue... he snipped through the ties which held my overgown together, and helped me get out of it... now just in my silk shift and linen gamurra (sleeveless dress with a fitted bodice and full skirt), I felt much cooler, but was still in trouble. He got me some water to drink and watered his napkin which he then put on my neck. He insisted on taking me outside where it was cooler and promptly put me in a chair outside the door.... much fuss was made by a handful of people and I think at one point I said something like " I'm a good Leo girl, and I like to be the center of attention- except when it's warranted, apparently!" I was so embarrassed! I felt warm, but it wasn't until one of my friends sent me a pic from when I was sitting on the outside chair that I understood why all were so concerned... I was beet red in the face and I was having trouble stringing sentences together...
after that, I was able to have a cool shower and have been fine ever since...

Well, mostly... I came home and discovered I had managed to attract a sore throat... it's mostly gone now, but it's slowed me down, to be sure... I slept most of today away on the sofa and have been drinking a shredded ginger and honey concoction which helps...
hope to be back to normal tomorrow!!

Sigh.... so that's me for now.... I'm super duper excited as it's only 2 more sleeps until I get to see the baby!!! my first ultrasound is on Friday afternoon!!! woo hoo!
It's too early to see the gender yet, but at least one question will be answered... my mom is hoping for twins! I get to see if I have one or two babies... I think there's only one in there, but it will be good to see for myself... my mom keeps saying... "well, if you have twins, that would be ok... get it all over with in one pregnancy!" LOL
I joke all the time, because DH wants a boy, and my daughter wants a sister... my mom wants twins, so I say I'm going to end up with boy/girl twins!!

Seriously, though, I think I only want one at a time.... yup, just one bum to change and one mouth to nurse!! but if it's twins, I'll just have to wrap my head around it before they get here!!

Now I'm rambling... I've missed you guys so much!!
More tomorrow!
phil.

Ali- a glass of wine won't hurt you! Go for it! Enjoy a sip (or two) for me :)

The question is, what about 3 glasses? I think that is about how much wine I have in the bottle.. :wine:

I can't wait to leave work, but we are having a meltdown of our system and I need to stay. I'm like.. really? After the crappy day I've had I can't even leave? :growlmad: Plus I know my Mom wants to know what is going on, and I am not going to call her until I'm on my way home, I know that I will start crying  and I don't want to do that anymore than I already have here at work.

At this rate I might have to stop and get a second bottle on my way home!!:haha:

As to the question of wine.... my doctor's advice was thus.... "a glass or two once in a while won't hurt anything a whit... a beer or two once in a while won't do any damage... In Europe, the docs there tell their pregnant patients that anything up to a drink a day is fine, but in North America the line is zero alchohol because of fear of litigation... someone going overboard and then if something happens to the baby saying 'well, you didn't say I shouldn't have had any....' "
Common sense is a rare commodity these days.... but I would hazard a guess that you don't have a drinking problem, Ali, and that you are going to be fine... and actually, 2 bottles on a night like this is not going to hurt anything.... as you pointed out, loads of people haven't even figured out they are pregnant for weeks and keep drinking.... now if you were suggesting 2 bottles of wine a night for the next few weeks... then we might have to have a chat.... but tonight, when you got disappointing news.... who can deny you a little red wine??
I say good on you....
and have an extra one for me....

phil.

Phil- gotta stay cool for the baby's sake! No more hot sun! :growlmad: You need to keep your temp down they say not to even take hot showers...so I hope you are okay and just flush ruddy easily like me! :haha: Can;t wait to hear about the us! Keep us posted!

coy ~ 11.3 is not to low i think normal levels for a pregnant lady is 11.5-16.5 mine was fine during pregnancy but after my section dropped to 8.1 so needed a blood transfusion

ali glad you enjoyed the wine did you give in to the ice cream lol

afm temp rose again this morning after yesterdays dip am on cd 22,9dpo its miserable, raining cold here today but i keep have hot flushes/sweats whats going on (hope its not menapause lol)due on in 2-3 days,i must get something to eat as starving and got that empty tummy feeling(not like me i can go all day without eating normally )

Morning Ladies,

Well, I'm now 7dpo and I came over all funny this morning. Got up at 5am as normal, felt absolutely fine, except for the sore boobs, backache and cramping I've had for the last few days. Got in the shower, still fine. Got out, started drying off and suddenly felt really hungry. It then took me a couple of seconds to realise, it wasn't hunger I was feeling, I felt sick! I was retching for about 10 minutes, my Hubby even came to check on me to see if I was OK. I was OK, I wasn't actually sick, just felt like I was going to be. Its nearly 11am now and I still feel sick. Not as bad as I came over earlier.

Hopefully I'm not getting a bug or anything. Can't be doing with that at the moment. 7dpo is far too early for morning sickness, right?

Ali, I hope you enjoyed the wine last night, sounds like you needed it.

Coy, Iron levels are really important, so it is best to get them checked out. Even if you are on the low side of healthy, you need to be keeping an eye on it. I have often been rejected for giving blood for being borderline anaemic. Don't remember what the levels are, but if you're pregnant, its so important to keep them at a healthy level. Hope your visit to the docs today will help.

I hope you managed to find something you were comfortable wearing too. Lots of pregnant ladies here tend not to buy new t-shirts etc. They just show their bumps between their boobs and their trousers. They just look like they need to cover up, but I do like to see close fitting tops when a lady is pregnant. Theres something really amazing about a ladies pregnant body.

WOW! I had a lot to catch up on in just 12 hours. So nice to see so many ladies commenting and discussing things, it is totally refreshing and so comforting, thanks!!!!

Phil - what Coy says, stay cool and keep out of the sun. It is not good to get overheated, and as you said you can't regulate your temp as well now that you are PG

Coy - don't you just love men? I wish I had one in my life, but alas I do not. It would make this baby making plan so much easier! It sounds like your man is a typical man and perhaps a little dense about things. I'm sure he doesn't even know that he was upsetting you last night (since men are so dense), so letting him know today that his comments stung a little, and also confessing that your hormones are on fire will help you guys find a happy middle ground  Definitely go get your blood levels checked, an Iron deficiency is not something to shake a stick at.

Jess - any word on the job?? Did you make the next round, FX'd that you did!!!

alin3boys - another temp rise, yay! That is a good sign, keep it up :) I think feeling hot is a normal thing to feel? Doesn't it mean that your progesterone is kicking in?

AFM.. It is funny, I used to be able to put back a bottle or 2 of wine, but it just isn't that easy to do anymore!!! I had had a glass of wine the other night, since I was so stressed out, and so I had the remainder of the bottle and fully intended on drinking it ALL last night. Well I choked down the first glass, and had about 2 sips of the second glass, and was like? What am I doing? I do not want this. Silly me! So I poured out the rest of the :wine: I agree with Coy, that while ice cream would have been a nice treat too, it just didn't go with wine. I ended up ordering a pizza (chicken and veggie) and playing with the doggies.

I ALSO HATCHED A PLAN!!!
I am such a planner.. but I guess if I have a plan for this baby making thing it makes me feel like I have a little control, since as Apple stated, there is so little control in the TTC process.

I was not happy with the idea of waiting until Sept to try again. I thought well why am I waiting? Big reason.. no Dr to monitor the clomid and do the IUI. Well then I thought, hmm.. do I need to be on clomid? Next cycle I should have the dominant follicle on my left (the good ovary/tube), and if so, I don't really need the clomid. As for IUIs, some couples do it at home. Well that may be true, but I didn't see any SINGLE women doing it a home :haha: That might be a little difficult? How do you aim the catheter into yourself? :haha::rofl: In a moment of brilliance I thought.. MIDWIVES! So, I am going to call the local midwives group in Canada (near where I will be), and see if they do IUIs. I have already checked and my donor is Canadian compliant, so if the midwives can do the IUI, I figure why not try in July and August from Canada? It will be much cheaper (no $1300 to the Dr, and only 1/2 the cost for the sperm since I'll only do 1 vial), and we'll see if it takes!

What do you all think? Am I crazy to try?

Hi ladies,

Been lying low during my TWW. Am super tired today, and bitchy, I wonder if that means AF is on her way. I'm at the end of my TWW, trying to be positive but more or less no expectations.

Ali, so sorry to read about you AF visit. This stuff is not fun.

I am about all caught up on the post since my last visit, I saw post by TerriLou and Ali (I think) about PCOS, and I've been reading (and have some freind who do) the Paleo diet, which addresses PCOS. There is a lot of info out there on this, easy to Google, one good resource is Robb Wood's site.

I'm not on Paleo but do observe some of the principles. I've read a lot where women's sugar levels are very detrimental to getting pregnant, I've cut back on sweets and dairy. But you really need to self-educate on this, maybe we should have a separate thread, I'm still very much learning, but have always been convinced that diet (not dieting) can make all the difference in the world. DH cuts out carbs once a year (no bread, no rice, no pasta) for 6-8 weeks and just looses weight without doing anything, and says he feels great.

Anyway, back to our world......just hoping we all have some good news soon. One good thing, I heard from Crystal, she sounds in good spirits.

Meanwhile, my hair is thinning and I've got acne when I almost never do from this 'miracle' supplement DHEA. Sorry now I'm getting bitchy again.....

Alex

Thanks Alex!! I haven't actually seen AF, just had the negative blood test, and then this morning my temp dropped almost a full degree. I think it is safe to say that AF will be here shortly, but since I was on progesterone it might take a few days. It was not actually due until Sunday (32days) but my cycle is a little variable somewhere between 29-35 days. So I usually say 32 since that is right in the middle. Sorry about the side effects of the DHEA, that does not sound fun at all! :hugs:

I was on the Paleo diet for about 2-3 months and it was great for me, even without officially having PCOS, it helps with anyone that has insulin resistance or medabolic type issues. I am going to go back on it once I get to Canada (kind of hard to start it up here when I am about to leave). Providing that you have at least one serving a day of the heavier carbs (sweet potato, corn, peas, spaghetti squash), I found that it was really easy to follow and I didn't miss other foods at all! Well maybe cheese :haha: I was able to lose 20 lbs too, and did so without any exercise, just diet. So, yes, I am a fan of the Paleo diet. I think it is more of a lifestyle change, choosing to omit certain foods (processed foods, simple carbohydrates, excess fats) and replace them with good foods (vegetables, fruits, legumes, lean meats, and complex carbs). So whether you do the Paleo, South Beach, Metabolic or Mediterranean diet, you will likely see results as they are all fairly similar.

phil ~ wheres them costume pics lol,and i agree try and keep cool heat is not good for baby even supposed to avoid hot baths

ali ~ that sounds like a fab plan i wondered why u had to wait till sept to try again,as for the hot flushes i have no idea never had them before had one yesterday while waiting to collect ds from nursery and then 3-4 today, got a bfn today but only 9dpo but had a reading which said i would concieve in next 2 months or next 2 cycles so soon.

Terri i have been exactly same feeling nauseas from 7dpo,hungry pangs which are very unusual for me as can go all day without eating and having hot flushes since yesterday which is also new for me

Ali- just poppin' on here real quick as I gotta make a run to the store...No, you're not crazy, "anytime, anywhere" I say as long as you are comfortable with it! There is a thread I check in to once in a while a lady started called "Young, Single, and pregnant". Her name is Emma and she did the at-home method with a donor of her choosing. Worked! So  for either method you choose. No need to wait :hugs:

Thanks for your kind words btw, I think my dh is defo slow in understanding his words can cut sometimes or at the very least can be insensative  Gonna have to remind him :grr: lol Love him very much though, he's still my hero, but hero's aren't perfect, right?:haha:

Coy - welcome, and yes, nobody is perfect, even if we all strive to be!!

I called around and the midwives are not able to help me, but they did suggest a Fertility Clinic about 40 minutes from my cottage. I called them and they do IUIs and can even do them for international patients (even though I am Canadian I no longer have CDN health insurance so that makes me international). She wasn't 100% sure about the cost, but felt it would be about $190 for the U/S, $25 for blood work to check LH surge, and $325 for the IUI, so that is actually cheaper than what I'm paying down here! HEHE. She is going to give me the fee schedule, and also let me know what information she needs from my current FS. YAY!!!!:happydance: Now I don't have to wait :happydance::happydance:

Ali- that is awesome news! So no need to wait! When do you leave btw? :sad1: Don't forget about us! lol...Keep in touch, K?

AFM- well, I have decided to go the rebellious route today. My eye makeup has transcended all "day wear" guidelines and I am wearing a shirt so low cut I've been picking toast crumbs off my belly since breakfast! :haha: Not that I've got anything to show (just my somewhat sun-burnt chest) but hey- Show's I don't care, right? Who's gonna say anything to a pregnant lady? :haha:

Don't worry, I am not leaving the group, they have internet access up there too :haha: I'm still going to be working while I am there, and still chatting with you all. I leave next weekend, and it will take 3 days to get there so I think I arrive on July 2nd. Just called my current FS and they said they could send all my info to the Dr in Canada, I just need to sign a medical release, etc. So that is one less thing to worry about. Plus I might get the baseline US done down here (free on insurance) before I head up there, or I may not. We'll see!

Go out there and rock that pregnant belly, make others jealous that you are so hot!!! :haha: No seriously, you need to feel sexy, and if throwing on some sultry makeup and a low cut shirt makes you feel that way, then by all means go for it!!!

Nah, doesn't make me feel sultry, just makes me feel all "in your face" iykwim? I think I have been fed up with all of the "your chest is red" crap...even the Beeotch at the doctors office always points it out...so dang what, right? It just stays sort of a flush color and never tans...something to do with pregnancy skin :haha: Wish I had boobs to flaunt! lol! They'd sooo be out there! :haha:

Wow, I am glad things are working out for you as far as the getting your IUI all set up for while you are away. Hey, what kind of vacation has you working still? :growlmad: Whatcha going to do with your puppies at home while you are gone?

Hi Ladies. I still don't have AF, but I'm sure she's on her way, as I'm still spotting.

I have some good news though. DH's SA came back as very good on all counts! I don't have all the specifics, but something like they like to see 8 million and he had over 100 million!!! He racked it up to plenty of practice ;)

HEHE.. Well I don't have 5 weeks of vacation but when I'm driving to Canada, I want to stay for a while ;) Plus I have a family engagement on July 7th (Wedding) and Aug 4th (reunion). So I figured I'd just stay for both!! My doggies are the reason I drive (well that and wanting to have a car while I'm there). So the doggies are coming along for the ride! Zach has never been, this is his first trip, but Zoe is old hat. She loves it up there, lots of chipmunks and squirrels to chase and more family to give her attention. I am happy that my company allows me to be able to work remotely, so I can be with my family up there. I am taking almost 2 weeks off (like 7 business days plus 2 days to help me get there, 1500 miles with one driver is hard to do in 2 days especially with doggies that need potty breaks). In a way it is probably good that I am not pregnant! Can you imagine a pregnant lady on a road trip needing to pee every 20 mins! :haha::haha:

Thank you! Rereading that, 8 vs 100 sounds crazy; maybe he said 80 vs 100. Either way, he's good to go. Motility and the other thing were good too :)
