What are your thoughts about pets sleeping on the bed

I don't have a problem with it. My dog wouldn't be able to reach my baby where he is at. She is really too big to sleep in the bed but I don't care if she lays on top of the covers. I know my dog is clean and I know she is up to date on everything.

If it was someone else's dog I wouldn't be ok with it. But my dog, its whatever.

I should also say I don't encourage her to be around the baby. I know she would never do anything, she just isn't hostile in any way, shape or form. But she is not allowed to be in his face or especially lick him. I do let her smell him and smell his feet or legs.

Before LO came along we allowed our cat to sleep on our bed with us, but when Anabella was born I couldn't risk it. I was worried the cat would jump into the Moses Basket whilst I was sleeping. I know the chances are slim and if it did happen I would more than likely wake seeing Anabella slept literally right next to me, but I didn't want to take the chance. So we used to shut the cat out, and it did make me feel bad, especially as he would sometimes scratch at our door and pull his fur out in protest :(

Now Anabella is in her own room, our bedroom door is open and Alfie (the cat) comes and goes as he pleases :) I now wake up in the morning to find him sleeping on top of my head, literally!

One of my dogs sleeps on the bed with me and LO, but he stays down by my feet. Other than that, they tend to avoid him like the plague.

They might not want to anymore....my dog stopped 'talking' to me for a good two weeks when I brought LO home! It was traumatic!!

Just my opinion (I don't have a problem with people that do) but I wouldn't want to sleep in a bed full of dog hairs let alone let my baby sleep in there!

I am a pet lover and have got 2 dogs but they are not even allowed upstairs let alone in the bedrooms or anywhere near the bed!

This is one of the many reasons that my LO never goes to my parents house due to their lack of dog related hygiene :nope:

I think its totally gross lol. I've never let either of my animals sleep on my bed. My dog isn't even allowed upstairs! But that's just me. My mum always used to let their dog sleep in her bed, my auntie does, lots of people I know do. It just isn't for me!

I couldn't keep the cat off the bed if I tried he has to snuggle with the baby

Is it really bad to allow you pets to continue sleeping on the bed once baby arrives? We have 2 small dogs that are just over a year old and have always slept on the bed with us, we don't want to throw them out of our room and treat them differently because we are having a baby, they are a big part of the family too.

We don't plan on co-sleeping, the bassinette will be beside me but someone at the hospital during one of my appointments commented that the baby will be in bed with us sometimes (cuddling/feeding/watching telly) so it would be unhygienic.

What are you thoughts on this? I'm 39+6 so baby is almost here.

Also, they don't sleep under the covers, just on top.

I let Skitty (our cat) on the bed during the day, but don't trust him unsupervised with Violet, so don't let him in at night.

SarahBear do you bed share? We do and I consider that 'supervised' but our cats are quite good and know not to come near Culver or me or the head end of the bed. X

We didn't let our dog upstairs when Holly was very young. But me and DH have separate beds now as me and Holly bedshares. So I have the baby and he has the dog. Works well for us!

I didn't care but he stayed away by his own choice. But I bedshare with the baby anyways. I would kick the dog out if it meant choosing... lol

Our little cocker spaniel sleeps with us, big mistake, wish I'd never done it but 3 years later and it's a bit too late to change!!!! However, big lesson learnt and I didn't make the same mistake with LO!!! She's NEVER been in our bed and has slept through since 6 weeks! I'm kind of happy I made the mistake of letting the pooch sleep with us instead of LO!

LO never goes on our bed so don't think it's an issue, plus I wash the sheets once per week and dog is never allowed on bed if scruffy, she'll have a bath before doing so! Oh works nights so I craved he company and security before LO! I don think there is anything wrong with it, she's part of the family too! :) x

I love my dog, but he's a greyhound and would take up the whole bed! Also my husband has asthma and allergies to dust (thankfully not allergic at all to our dog) and so he sleeps on the landing.

I am currently typing with a baby, a mini yorkie and a Chihuahua all beside me in bed lol!

I don't have a problem with it personally. I don't bedshare at the moment but considering it with number two. The cats love Aden and are very patient with him- they are forever sleeping on the bed and I will happily leave Aden sitting watching cartoons while I do my makeup/dry my hair- but I wouldn't ever leave them unsupervised because every animal has its limits.

The cat sleeps on our bed, but on my husband's legs (not mine because I kick in my sleep!)

I pick the baby up and breastfeed in bed at night, I never lie the baby down on the bed and it's never been a problem for us... Hygienically I guess it's the same as feeding on the sofa if the dogs sit on it.

There's no chance I'd ever co-sleep with the baby and pets though.

You let your husband sleep on the landing !!?? ;-)

My dogs were the only babies before he arrived and the little dog slept with us every night. As soon as the baby came they stayed out of our room because they didnt like the crying. Now that they are used to him the little dog wants to sleep with us again but it turns out after a full body rash, never ending cold symptoms and a blood test he is HIGHLY allergic to dogs and cats so they arent allowed back on the bed anymore anyways.:nope:
