What are your thoughts about pets sleeping on the bed

I didn't ever plan on bedsharing, but my son had different ideas. I was not comfortable with dogs in the bed, cause one day the baby will wake up and want to crawl into your bed at night when they can. I started early though, I didn't want to associate baby coming home and them being kicked out so we did it early in pregnancy

Our 2 cats always slept with us but as we have done a sidecar crib it would be too easy for them to get in unnoticed.

So from about 25 weeks we started shutting them out.

It worked well as we switched bedrooms at that time so just never let them sleep in this room at night.

Also one of our cats likes to decide at 3/4am that he wants to kids your face and cuddle you and I was sleeping bad enough by that point of pregnancy so was glad of the peace.

We do still let them sleep on our bed during the day. They need somewhere away from the baby.

But at night they're shut out.

My dog had her own bed in our room, she would prefer that than be in bed with us because there wasn't enough room for us all - even before baby. But that never stopped her from jumping in with us for morning cuddles. She's not with us anymore  it was worth the dog hair for the cuddles. x

Aww Haylee. I'm sorry. X

The cuddles are totally worth the hair.

If I'm feeding baby in bed in the morning then we have the bedroom door open and we usually get some fluffy company.

It's just when we're asleep I like the door shut. Stops any paranoia.

we have 2 cats and a dog (did have 3 cats but one died a few months before LO arrived). they have always slept with us (well, one of the cats sleeps in the airing cupboard) with the dog going under the covers when its cold. We weren't going to co-sleep but ended up using a co-sleeper as baby had other ideas! Never stopped the animals coming in. they have always avoided the co-sleeper, even when empty.

LO is now in her own room and the door is closed at nights (obviously) so no animals can get in. i think if you are going to do it, it needs to be done before baby arrives so they dont associate it with the baby.

We have a bonkers cocker spaniel and 2 cats, the cats are allowed into my 18yr olds bedroom (they have their own bed but end up on hers). The dog isn't allowed upstairs and has his bed in the kitchen, he doesn't come into the living room either as LO is often playing on the floor with toys and the dog can be a little clumsy and boisterous. We make sure that there's plenty of supervised contact between baby and dog in the kitchen and hallway .... Dog LOVES "his" baby lol

I personally wouldn't let the dog sleep on my bed anyway. Our dogs bed however was in our bedroom. Soon as found out was pregnant I moved it into the hallway. Didn't want him sleeping in same room as baby but also didn't want him to get jealous so did it soon as poss so he didn't associate being kicked out the room with the baby x

My mum lets their dog stay on her bed at night, the couple of times lo has stayed over I've asked mum not to let him sleep there. I just wouldn't be comfortable with it. He's a lovely dog very placid but I still wouldn't take the chance.

Our dog sleeps on the bed once hubby has gone to work, we very very rarely have LO on/in the bed so it doesn't really matter to us. However, on the odd occasion we do, I just make sure the dog is at the other end from LO.

We've raised him from a puppy and he grew up with my niece and nephew around so he is very good with children. Having said that, I would never trust him 100% as much as I love him, it's just not worth the risk so I never leave LO with the dog alone.

I can't believe someof you still have a dog on the bed after a baby was born. My dog was SO insulted by the baby that he ran away that first night and never returned  I think the crying upset him so much.

Our dog didn't run away - he joined in! Any time LO cried when he was newborn the dog would start crying too and pacing around! :haha:

lol that's cute! My 1st had really horrid colic so the dog was quite distressed, plus he's a Shiba Inu which means he already had an attitude.

Id love my cat too but unfortunately OH is allergic to furry animals and i am way too much of a figeter, it annoys OH never mind our cat! And our cat is kicked outside at night time to prevent 'accidents' downstairs xx
