What benefits will we be entitled to?

I've just filled in a benefits calculator to see what we'll be entitled to when our baby arrives, I filled it out as if our baby was born last april just to see.

Apparently we'll only be entitled to child benefit and £300 child tax credits a year, but I thought we would be entitled to working tax credits as OH works 42 hours a week and we will have a baby.

OH works 42 hours a week and earns £17800 a year before deductions.

I'm a full time student and I work part time, I earn £2000 a year from my job and £2700 as a student bursary. I'll be claiming maternity allowance when I leave to have a baby.

According to the calculator we'll only be entitled to child benefit and £300 child tax credits a year... is that right? I'm really confused!

It changes next April so you're best of going into the job centre to ask :flower:

I tried the benefits calculator thing online and it said that we were not entitled to much but I am going to try and go into the citizens advice bureau as they will go through all different scenarios with you and what you are entitled to! Its worrying though! I'll end up having to go back to work a month after the baby is born!! ha!

Ok, I'll go into my local job centre and ask, do you have to book an appointment?

It's so confusing, especially with me being a full time student. I have to go back to uni to sit my final exams and do a final placement before I can go back to work

Depends on the JC in your area, best to ring an ask to save a wasted journey

You don't include a student bursary in the figures to work out your entitlement. Im in my third year of getting a bursary and they don't take it into consideration, they just put me down as not working, think it's something to do with not paying tax and national insurance on it x

Thank you :) This is my third year of getting a bursary too and I will continue to get it as maternity pay from the NHS when I'm on maternity leave
