What do you do with younger kids when in labour?

I have a 6 yr old and 18 months old. Not sure what I'm going to do about my 18 months old if I end up having to go hospital at night? My labours are long and get complicated. My parents are there so the older one will be fine but the 18 month old is who I'm worried about, specially at night time. Help!

My son was 18 months and my parents had him. I was staying at their house anyway so he was already in bed but my parents got him up and took him down to the hospital then his dad helped look after him until I got home that evening. He was a wee gem and had no problems. :)

Thanks. I was hoping I'd be at my parents already too so kids are used to it. Plus my brothers getting married when I'll be 37weeks (whole thing lasts a week!) but I don't have that option to stay anymore. I'm just worried about leaving my younger one suddenly.

I'm worried about this..I have a 4 year old and a 2 year old. My whole family are away from week 36 to 38. My last baby was born at 34 weeks.. so we literally will have nobody if I go in labour at night. We have nursery during the day.. let's hope he stays put until at least 38 weeks!! X

I had my 17 month old at hospital with me when my first was born.
I am having this baby at home and my kids will likely be present of they wish. In have a doula who will supervise them,

My then 17 month old will be staying at my parents. Plan on having regular sleepovers there in the run up to it so he'll be well used to it once the time comes.

There is no other option. You should leave your younger one also to your parents.

My 26 month old was at my home birth and she did fabulous! :D I loved having her there.

Both my kids will be with my mom and nanny while I go for csection xx

I'm really worried about this too I wish I could take them with me! lol

I go to mother in law everytime, she drops everything for me 😂

DD ( was 2.5 at the time) came with when DS was born. I had a super fast labor (1hr 23min start to finish) and my dad couldnt get to us fast enough (all of our family lived 3.5 hours away at the time). So she came with. Sat on the couch less than 5 feet away from me when I pushed little brother out.

This time DD will be 5, DS almost 3, and they'll be coming with. Family is 9 hours away now (husband is military, we move a lot) so theres no way theyre going to make it in time. We have a doula who can supervise them, but I want them with me. I have issues leaving my kids with anyone, and I dont have anyone close that I trust enough to leave them with, so theyre coming. Plus its kind of nice when youre whole family is together for that special moment.

Im just hoping my labor this time is long enough to get to the hospital. I really dont want to have to rely on my 5 year old to help me if I go into labor while my husband is at work. She knows how to call 911 but I know she would be freaked out.

My DS who is nearly 15 months will be going to my parents house. We'll drop him there or they'll pick him up before we leave for the hospital, DH will go get him when it's time to meet his baby sister then he'll go back to my parents until we are back at home. He's there a bit but has never had a sleep over, he won't care though he's such a Poppy's little boy!

I wouldn't have even realised that taking them with me was an option if it came to it? Are you in the uk? I have no clue how we will sort childcare and get the hospital in time! Xx

Nope, US based. But what the heck were they going to do? The nurses were all more concerned about prepping the room and finding a handful of doctors to get in the room once they found out I had a csection with my first. They werent concerned with my kiddo sitting half asleep on the couch playing quietly with her toys. They couldnt even get ONE doctor in the room before DS came flying out, let alone the 5 that they wanted in the room. :haha:
