I'll try to keep this short but I want honest opinions please :flower:

So a friend of mine is pregnant and I walk her dogs with my dog cause she's tired and has a toddler to look after. The other day I'd taken her dogs out and one of them, chasing after his ball, bowled into my dog and knocked her down. We were only across the road from her house and she heard my dog yelping and ran over and we took her to the vet. He initially thought it was no big deal, some bruising. It cost $100 and we got sent home but told that there's a small chance my dog may have more serious injuries.

My friend said that she'd pay half and over the last few days, we've been back and forth to the vet and the bill is growing. It's looking serious now and I have to take her back in the morning :(

My question is - Do you think she should have to pay for anything? If so, where does that end? If she said she'd pay for half when the bill was small, should she pay for half when it's thousands? I'm just unsure and don't want an awkward situation. If her dog had bitten my dog and caused injury, she would have to pay 100% of the bill. Is it different that it was an accident?

Honest opinions would be appreciated. What would you do in my spot? Or in hers?

personally i would offer to pay the initial $100 and half after that, is my dogs fault but i couldnt afford to pay the whole amount but thats just me... it was my dogs fault there for i will take responsibility as much as i can

I don't know to be honest? I would expect her to pay half of the initial amount but I really don't have a clue about any ongoing costs. A dog has no idea that if it runs into another dog/person/whatever it will cause harm. It sounds like it was genuinely an accident.

Do you not have pet insurance?

I think i would be inclined to take the half if that's what she is offering but i wouldn't expect her to pay the whole amount. Also if i knew my friend wasn't well off enough i would probably decrease the amount i'd expect her to pay.
We have dog insurance so we'd only have to pay the excess anyway so it's really hard to know what to do if i'm honest.

Unfortunately I don't have pet insurance - it's really not a common thing here

I think it is unfair for you to ask her to pay the whole amount, or even half if the costs have gone up. It's also not fair for you to have to pay but it's your dog and you don't have insurance. Sorry.

I agree with this.

I would accept the half from the intial bill but wouldn't expect anymore after that, obviously if she offers then that would be different.
I do think that it would have been totally different if it had been her dog biting yours etc but from the sounds of it it was a genuine accident. :flower:

I think it's great of her to offer to pay half of the initial bill but the animals were in your care and ultimately it was your responsibility to ensure that none of them are harmed.
