i had my other 2 children normaly so dnt have a clue, but consultant told me to get my head around havin a c-section but how do i do that? do i pack my bag differently etc

any advise will be great thank u xx

Hi pack very big knickers like the granny ones that go up over ur belly button haha, trust me there so comfy & dont rest on ur scar. Comfy pjs, loose clothing. Nothing tight. I brought my own pillow/cushion in wit me. It helps u get comfy when trying to sleep or when i wana sit up in the bed. Good luck wit ur section xx

I think he means by getting your head around it, like accepting that it will probably happen, and prepare yourself for maybe not the birth you would hope for.

As for your hospital bag, just be prepared to be in for a few days so will need more than a usual delivery.

Totally second the big granny pants, and lots of loose fitting comfy clothes. Either a pair of flip flops or slip on slippers

I agree with the others, big knickers and trousers with soft elasticated waistbands - i kept in my maternity leggins. Just pack more than usual as you may be there a few days.

Don't worry, the recovery is often very quick. I had my third 2 weeks ago and am doing great, out for walks with my kids, cooking, cleaning (Urgh), all the usual. Good luck!

One other suggestion is arnica granules - a homeopathic remedy some people swear by. You can take it a few days before the section, then after until healed. Ask a pharmacist, but do mention it to your anesthetist too as it affects the blood somehow. Bt people say t works well, I used it first time and had a great recovery.

I didn't use it this time, but also had a great recovery so who knows :)

Defo pack massive pants! Ha ha I had to send my DH out to the shops to buy me some bigger ones cause the ones I had packed didn't fit over my tummy and were to tight on the incision. Make sure they are the high rise kind that go right upto your belly button.

Also pack nice loose going home clothes, I had to cut the elastic on the jogging bottoms a used to travel home cause I couldn't stand them being even remotely tight on my scar.

Also this is a bit random but slippers that you don't need to bend down to put on and off, I bought some lovely ballet style ones but ended up walking around barefoot as I couldn't bend down on my own to get them on! Ha ha :dohh:

Arw thank u all so much. I habe alresdy packed my bag. But that was for a noraml birth. So guna change afew things and add afew things hahaha then at least its all done and dusted xxx

Yep, granny pants..... so comfy. Sometimes when my DH is out for the evening I put on my granny pants and pj bottoms and veg on the sofa in comfort lol!

Also, I second arnica. I took them before /after an operation a few years back and also after my first c-section and healed really well. Might be a coincidence but I'm having them this time be it vbac or section xx

I'd also pack maternity pads for the bleed after! They're much softer than sanitary towels and only cost me 99p from tesco for a pack of 10 or something, definitely recommended.

Other than that I don't think you need anything different to a normal birth (mine was emcs and I didn't think oh no I need this and didn't bring it).

I'd just say its after that you need t make sure that everything is around you before your visitors leave..,OH left the bag on the floor with the nappies in and I had to buzz the nurse to come get it as I couldn't bend down; I didn't even think about it before he left!

Xx

I'm kinda struggling with this myself. Had an emcs almost 3 years ago and I wasn't prepared for it at all. Comfort is your main goal.
Currently I have grannie panties and rather stretchy pants. More like maternity yoga pants that were always loose when I wear them. I also have jeans in case of how I'll feel before going home. I packed slipper socks with rubber bottoms- my feet always get cold and this way I can walk from bathroom to bed if need be. Besides toiletries which all I did was buy another soap, not anymore than the tiny hair bottles is all I have. A compact brush as I have odd things in my make up case saved some space, and nursing bra that I'll be wearing day of operation is all I have. :)
My hospital supplies me with pads.
I will be bringing my own pillow and baby's stuff of course. :) hubby has everything else taken care of by what he says. :haha:
I don't know if you're in the states, but I'll give you a more detailed list after my pre op Monday.
C-sections aren't that bad and sadly, I am unable to do my vbac. All in all, baby gets born regardless.
:hugs: just don't get that down about it if you do end up with a c-section.:flower:

I had a elective section 2 weeks ago yesterday in my bag I took
2 huge nightys
10 huge pairs of nicks
20 really large pads

Didn't really get out of bed to use much as my tummy was real sore.
Xx

I just had one a few days ago.

I'd pack all of the normal things for a regular delivery, plus underwear that goes high up. I buy Hanes Boy Shorts. They're GREAT!

Also, I'd take a lot of different kinds of crackers (if you like them), because sometimes that's all they let you eat.
