Him I'm 37 weeks and having a section, I will have a date for it next week, I'm very new to it all, what will happen , I take it I will have a pre appointment , what happens at it? I'm terrified of having it done, so can someone talk me through what happens, the op, and stay, recovery etc?

Don't worry, I was petrified before my section but it was fine. The actual operation was over very quickly. Once you're in theatre and prepped, spinal administered (doesn't hurt at all), drips in etc they'll check to see when you're numb and then your baby will be born within 5 minutes of them starting. i didn't even realise they had started until my daughter was about to be born. Getting stitched back up takes the longest, but you're too busy fussing over your new baby to notice. You'll then go to the recovery room where you'll be monitored for a while until you're ready to be moved to a ward. I was up and about the next morning having a shower, stayed in hospital 2 nights and then was home. You'll be sore for a while but it's manageable. You'll be fine!

your be taken to a room to be prepped your be put in a hospital nightgown and long socks like flight socks your get asked a bunch of questions about allergies and stuff and they will asked if your shaved downstairs if not they will do it for you then your be taken to theatre where you will have a drip put in then the spinal which dosent hurt you just have to keep really still then your lay down and they will put the screen up and begin within 10 mins your baby will be born they will show baby to you straight away then check apgar scores and clean and put blanket on baby and your birth partner will hold the baby close to you or on your chest so you can get to know eachother while they stitch you up and put a cathetar in once thats all done your be taken to recovery room which is private and you will be sat up and you can hold your baby for awhile the nurses will check on you see how your doing make sure u arent in any pain which you wont be your still be numb then after awhile your be taken to the ward with the rest of the new mums and babies and your probably fall asleep from exhaustion and your birth partner will be with you all the time then probably have to leave once your asleep after that the nurses will periodically check on u and baby and get you up at some point to walk around then your cathetar will come out and your be able to take a shower once your steady on your feet your be feeling fine and ready to go home within a couple of days really x

Thanks for replies, do you have yourre appointment long before op?

I have an appointment the day before. They'll take blood, give me a blood thinning injection and generally talk me through the procedure and make me sign permission forms etc.

So glad you ask this, it's an option for me too although I won't find out until Wednesday.
Am currently watching a birth programme on the telly and both women have been admitted the day before their planned sections - is this necessary?! I am dreading the prospect even more now, I so badly don't want to be in hospital.

Going in the night before isn't necessarily a bad thing, it would probably mean you're top of the list. I had an emcs, and I know I was the first that morning immediately followed my 2 other emcs. So the poor ladies who's elcs were meant to be at 9 were pushed back nearer 11. However they'd been prepped earlier so were wheeled in fairly quick. I spoke to a few other cs mums in hospital and those who were showing up on the day for later appts were so frustrated and wondering if they'd ever get in.

Though my hospital has had some enforced changes so hopefully this doesn't happen too often at other hospitals or for me when I go again next month.
