FTM here wondering your opinions on when it is a good time to start LO on rice cereal and solids?
She is 4 1/2 months right now. I've heard there is something that if you start too early they could get food allergies? Just looking for some advice. And also what brand/kind of rice cereal/solids do you use?
And do you do rice cereal for awhile and then switch to regular baby food?

I held off til just before 6 months, a lot of people did the 'I weaned early and my LO was fine' but for me that wasn't a good enough reason to start early because not all babies are fine, those guidelines wouldn't be there if it really didn't matter. We went straight in with food, I think Lucas had baby rice on its own once but honestly - it's disgusting :haha: I mixed it in with a few things but really if you wait til 6 months there's no reason why you can't just jump straight in with some fruit or something x

i tried rice cerial but ende3d up doing baby otmeal instead. Due to a milk allergy i used the beach nut brand..
My advice on when is going to be differnt because my lo had terrible reflux so i was told to add some to his bottle at just a few weeks old..
I started 'weaning' as in feeding with a spoon around 4.5mths with the baby oatmeal and shortly after started on foods

I weaned at 6 months and I never gave rice cereal as I felt it was unnecessary.

We did baby led weaning where you just give them what you're having straight away. Even if we had gone the purée route I wouldn't have started before 6 months, just feeding milk is so much easier.

My LG is just 5 months old and I have bought some baby rice but don't intend to use it yet. I want to try BLW ideally so I am waiting until she can sit better unsupported, but I will use a few bits of purées and baby rice/porridge as well whilst letting her explore textures and things too.

Has your baby shown any signs of wanting to move to solids?
My LG is fascinated by me eating and reaches out for my food, as well as drinks around 30-35 ounces of milk a day now too (they say once baby regularly has about 32 ounces they may be ready for weaning).

Hope that helps a little

The signs that LO is ready for weaning are that they can sit unaided, have lost their tongue thrust reflex and can pick up objects and bring them to their mouth.

Baby rice is gross, I'd start with a fruit puree instead :)

I started at just under 5 months - I gave baby rice a miss, I just felt it had no nutritional value and went straight on to pureed fruit.
My LO is 6 months now and eats some mashed/pureed food and some whole foods.

She was able to sit unaided at 4.5 months - I don't think I would have started weaning unless she could sit up - due to fear over choking.

We never gave rice cereal. My view is it's unnecessary.

We started him on finger foods at 6 months. He really got good at eating at 7.5 months.
