When does breast milk start forming?

I'm currently pregnant with ds2 already have a son who is two years old and I've been reading about people getting there milk in early in pregnancy but I can only remember getting mine as soon as I gave birth  so I'm confused as to why some people get there colostrum in pregnancy!
Can anyone shed some light on this x

I'm glad you've asked about this, I've been wondering if I should expect something happening soon X

I don't really no the 'whys' but I know last pregnancy I had the odd leak now and then from about 17ish weeks .. Then as soon as she was born my boobs were like fountains :haha: ... Same with this pregnancy, have started leaking every now and then just a little!

I was told everyone gets colostrum (but not everyone leaks or has anything come out at all, in some cases) at around 20-25 weeks. Mine came out at 20 weeks, but didn't leak. I didn't feel it or anything, actually DH was the one who "discovered" it:blush: You had to kinda squeeze it out.

According to the breast feeding session I went to today, colostrum comes in between 16 and 20 weeks then the milk comes in a day or two after birth (this can be 3-5 days in some people or if you have a c-section).

I am 19 weeks and nothing has happened to my boobs apart from being sensitive and hurty lol. Should I be worried if nothing has come out by 20 weeks?

No not at all! I think some people go through pregnancy without any leakage, or at least not noticing if a tiny amount comes out! I wouldn't worry about that! xx

Totally normal! Like I said earlier, I never would have known at all if DH hadn't accidentally squeezed some out at 21 weeks. Otherwise it never came out on its own and I never leaked, and I certainly didn't feel it being made in there. :haha: Even when I BF'd my DD I never leaked but produced a TON of milk. So not leaking doesn't mean that you'll have supply issues at all!

I'm the opposite. I leak all night. Only when I'm laying on my side though. I don't leak at all during the day. It's clear and very sticky. It makes me worried that I won't have any colostrum for when baby gets here and it'll be straight milk :(

This is my third and I have never leaked during pregnancy.... My milk was slow to come in but once it got going had no problems.

I think the actual switch to milk is based on hormones that change after birth, so I wouldn't worry about it! You should just have lots of colostrum for baby :)

I haven't had anything leaking. I have been squeezing trying to get some out but there is nothing. I read that for most people
It comes in the third trimester.

I haven't had any leaking. If I squeeze, "sometimes" some colostrum comes out, but then again, sometimes it doesnt.
