When you need to regularly go out without LO...

My LO is 5 months old, EBF and will not take a bottle of expressed milk.

I have a horse who desperately needs to be brought back into work before her health starts to suffer but I'm struggling to get out of the house for the time necessary to exercise her.

Little man settled into (almost) a routine and for a few weeks I was going to the yard after his morning feed and coming back before he needed another one and DH needed to go to work.

This has all gone pear shaped again and he's started fussing and refusing a feed first thing. I don't feel like I can go out when little man hasn't fed as I have no idea when he can be hungry again and by the time he's fed it's too late for me to go as DH needs to work.

By the time DH has finished work I'm wanting to go to bed, as Logan is still waking 3-4x per night so I need to grab my sleep when I can.

I'm starting to get really frustrated. I love my boy and I love feeding him but I'm starting to find it hard that I feel like I can't get out for an hour and a half to keep me and my horse fit.

Does anyone else have need to leave their little bottle refuser regularly for any reason? How do you manage it?

Please help x

Hiya

My lo is a bottle refuser and has been since she was 7 weeks old.

In all honesty I just had to leave her, and in the grand scheme of things an hour and a half isn't a long time. Lo will be fine.

I left lo with my mil whilst I went out for a few hours and also, oh and I went to a wedding, so she went from 4pm - 10pm without me.

Your lo might take a bottle from your oh when you're not there. They can smell milk when you're in the house (like a blood hound!) so won't take a bottle because they know there are some yummy boobies full of milk within a 4 meter radius!

Otherwise, we changed to sippy cups and a doidy (which didn't work too well for us) around the same age. Lo tends to chew on the sippy cup teat but she actually gets water/milk out of it and will drink it, albeit really slowly.

Ultimately, baby won't starve itself when being offered milk. My lo might bawl for a while whilst my oh tries to feed her when I'm out (which to be fair is rarely these days as I'm so tired!) but she will take it after a little while.

Xx

Thanks for your reply LDC.

I went this morning and he did actually take 2.5 oz from a bottle while I was gone. Not a lot but enough to tide him over till I got back and could BF.

DH said he protested at first but then took it nicely x

Great news :) I think sometimes it's scarier for us, as we worry so much. Really glad he took a little xx
