Who has circumcised their little boy?

I seriously feel like asking a friend of mine to write down his experience with being Circ'd at 12! He said to me before it was so painful, he would never want to have his kids go through it later on life, and said he would prefer do get it done as infants. I wouldn't want to cause my child any unnecessary pain, but I would rather do it at a time they wouldn't remember it, compared to scarring them emotionally for life having to have it done later on.

My nephew has just been circ'd aged 5. He was in so much pain. Knowing the risk of having to be circ'd due to medical reasons are rare, it is to small a risk to put a young baby with an immature immune system through such a procedure. In the rare occasion it has to be done later in life at least the immune system has more of a basis to deal with it xx

I'm sure it would be very painful to have it done later in life. But how often does it need to happen? Most of the men I have in my life aren't circ'd and none of them have had any medical issues...obviously I know that they are just a tiny portion of the population, but still...is it really common enough that every boy should have it done at birth "just in case"? (I'm not saying someone in particular has said this, just asking the question.) Going by that theory, then shouldn't everyone have their appendix and tonsils removed at birth?
Again, I would never judge someone who has it done to their child....just food for thought!

I guess unless we see it first hand, with our own children, most of us don't really know what we're talking about. lol Some say it will hurt no matter what, even when Moms have said their LO slept through it all, etc... None of us know from the outside in a way, as none of us can ask the infant how they feel... I don't think I can add anything else to this... Im out :hi:

I just want to ask a question if that's ok...

At the babyshow there was a circumcision clinic there and they were calling out to passing mums and mums to be 'have you thought about having your son circumcised?'

Now I understand people having it done for cultural, religious or medical reasons, but surely if you were going to have it done to your son you'd think about it off your own back? To me it came across as them giving a sales pitch for a procedure that isn't necessary to those that have no reason to have it done. I'd like to know if people who have or would have their sons circumcised feel the same way.

I actually think that's very bizarre although it's probably a clinic which is trying to sell it's service. It would do better just convincing parents that were going to circumcise that they were the best service as opposed to trying to convince people randomly. I would be opposed to advertising things like this. I don't know why. I must go analyse my opinion... :coffee:

I'm glad it isn't just me who thinks it is a bit weird! I think I objected to it because it's almost as if they were expecting people to say 'no, i haven't but now you've mentioned it I must have it done!'. Even people who do have the cultural, religious or medical reason to do so think long and hard about the procedure so it just baffles me.

Having said that, i didn't really give them a chance to say more so don't know what they would have said had i stopped to talk
