Is there such a thing as pregnancy insomnia? I just can NOT sleep.

Recently I've been really restless during the night, but tonight has blown the past couple of weeks out of the water. I went to bed at 10, didnt get to sleep til about 12.15. I woke up 4am (GMT), and it is now 7am! I am SO tired but can just not get to sleep.

I feel like a tired child. I just want to cry. And eat ice-cream, but I'm not sure if thats related to being tired. And I would eat it but I dont really want a sugar rush right now.

ARGHHHH. :(

Because you're pregnant :haha:
I honestly can't remember being as far along as you as it was over a year ago :dohh: But when I was further along it took me hours to get to sleep! :(

I suffer from this severely. It sucks!! :hugs:
I was around your stage when it first happened, then I hit 2nd tri and slept CONSTANTLY. I could sleep all day and all night, I loved it! :haha: Once I started getting big it started getting tougher.. and tougher.. and tougher.
Now I barley sleep when I should, I pull all nighters all the time and sleep during the day. I used to get so upset (because this has getting progressively worse for 3 months now..) but I finally gave up on being angry about it. I seriously used to just sit there and cry for hours because I was so mad I couldn't sleep!
But since I don't work or do anything during the day I finally decided it wasn't that big of a deal as long as I'm getting 8 hours of sleep somewhere during the 24 hour period.. its so frustrating because I know once LO is here all I'm going to want to do is sleep!! Ironic isn't it.. :dohh:

I had a 3 hour nap this afternoon, which was distrubed several times cause everyone in this house just seems to be noisy, grr. Oh well, I did feel a lot better after it and now can finally function without a terrible headache. Dont think I can hack this throughout the entire pregnancy though. I hope I at leasy get a good few weeks off in second trimester.

I seem to be the complete opposite ?
I'm not sure how far along you are, but second tri I'm guessing?
Did you find yourself DEAD tired all the time in first tri?
That's how I feek 247!
Guess I better be trying to get as much sleep as I can for now.
Its just so hard with work and school :(
I hope you can sleep better soon though girl x its so hard to function without it.

No I'm only 9 weeks so you're further along than I am :) yeah I'm struggling to stay awake at work, and getting up on a morning is horrific.

I had sleep problems my whole pregnancy, sometimes all I did was sleep and other times I couldn't sleep to save my life! As crazy as it sounds, for me I got so used to erratic sleep that by the time my LO came it was no biggie to adjust to life with a NB.

I feel for you, I suffer from insomnia as it is, then on top of that I can't get comfortable to save my life, what with the steadily increasing bumpiness of my bump, lieing down amplifies my heartburn x10, I have 'restless leg syndrome' in my feet (anyone else get this?), just as I start to drop off I have to get up for the bathroom, and to top it all off my house is freezing Dx at least I'll be used to the sleepless nights when babby gets here xD I seem to sleep better when i'm at my boyfriend's, and his bed is just his mum's sofa :L

And I bet this is exactly why our bodies does this to us!! I'll be the same because I'm so used to being up at random hours of the night and sleeping so sporadically!! It is almost not fair though.. I think it should be more like hibernation where you know when you have a NB you aren't going to be sleeping a lot at all, so you should be able to get as much in as you can during the previous 9 months lol

Definitely normal! I've struggled with insomnia my entire life.

In pregnancy, it's safe for you to take Diphenhydramine and Doxylamine to help you sleep.
My OB just told me to alternate it every night. :)

Thank you, but I don't really want to try taking anything just yet as i managed to sleep last night (still interrupted but oh well.) But if it gets bad I might consider it.

Can you get those over the counter?
