Why do people think making my baby cry is funny!!!? Rant!

Its not that bad IMO. As long as she isn't hurting him to get him to cry, its not a huge deal.

I used to play band flute when i was younger (i wasn't bad at it either), and my younger brother (8 months at the time) would cry as soon as i started playing and stop as soon as i stopped.

I thought it was hilarious. I think we got it on film somewhere.

But if it bothers you so much, tell her to stop. Its your child, not hers.

So traumatising child who is scared of something that you dont think is scary is ok long as your not psyhcailly hurting them? Id kick your ass if I seen you do that and laugh.

How do you know the child is scared? Just because the child is crying?

I think some people are more sensitive than others. I also believe in the cry it out method, and some people would say that's traumatizing.

I honestly think sometimes consoling a child for every little thing can hurt them more than letting them learn that for some things they will have to console themselves.

I have personally know a baby who co-slept and was consoled for every little thing, and let me tell you, he is ALOT more aggressive and mean than my younger brother.

I think its a matter of opinion. You think that the baby crying must mean that they are hurt or scared, but babies cry because they can't speak. Just because they are crying doesn't necessarily mean they are hurt or scared. And i don't agree that showing a baby a toy or making a noise the baby doesn't like is "traumatizing".

I also don't agree on showing a child violence but i guess we have different opinions on that as well..

 I dont think me and you would get on to well so I will leave it at that just wouldn't let you near my child thats for sure.

What exactly is funny about a distressed baby???

Whether they are "traumatized" or not doesn't matter, crying in that situation is a distress signal and anyone who finds that funny or entertaining is off key.

If anyone deliberately made my baby cry I'd kick them out of the house.

Lets see your opnion on this when you actually have your child. Makeing a baby cry for your entertainment is down right cruel!

Okay. If this doesn't make you laugh then maybe i just have a cruel sense of humor :haha:

LOVE this video! But of course, I am a Buckeye!!

That being said, they baby in the video did not seem afraid of the song as much as irritated they kept turning her Mary had a little lamb song off.

You can look at a baby's facial expression and see why they are crying... if he is truly scared of the crab, tell you MIL to stop being so nasty to her grandchild!

Babies do cry for different reasons but to make them scared so they cry is just mean :growlmad:

How awful!!

Some people are just very strange and have a sense of humour to match!

I'd tell her to stop making LO cry.

As another poster said, LO is obviously upset or scared by the toy so why keep shoving it in LO's face?!

Hope you told her whereto shove it and that you gave your LO loads of cuddles
xx

That was my point exactly. Just because the baby is crying doesn't mean that it is scared or distressed. If someone walked up to the baby and screamed at it for a laugh, of course it would be cruel.

But everyone seems to think that making a baby cry for any reason is cruel. And i don't agree with that.

to make a baby cry on purpose it cruel!!!!!

it something upset you and people kept saying whatever it was that made you cry that would be totally unacceptable, its no differnt

whatever way you look at it, making babies cry for your own enjoyment it plain mean

crying is a sign of distress so I dont get you at all.

Sometimes babies cry just because they don't like something. It doesn't mean they are in pain or fear or suffering. They simply don't like something. Or they cry for attention. Does that mean they or in distress or does it just simply mean they want to get your attention.

A baby crying does not always mean it is in distress. If that was the case, letting a baby cry for any reason would be cruel.

?????????? the point is, the baby really does'nt like the crab it upsets him, that means his crys ARE distress, i agree not all crys are signals that they are sad/distressed, of course babies cry for all reasons as thats the only way to get their demands met

however, in this case its clearly upsetting for him so why do it! would you make your baby cry because you found it funny? i think not

im sure you will feel differently once your baby is here

What she said.

Maybe its an american thing...

As an American myself, I've gotta say....maybe not. I can see that something may be funny the first time, but repeating it, knowing it is distressing a baby, is not on.

I was just commenting on the fact that baby crying to the michigan theme song got over a million views and thousand of comments that said basically "funny".

There must be alot of cruel people in this world.

Maybe the baby wasn't scared of the toy, maybe he was trying to tell you he wanted a different one. I don't understand why he had to be scared because he was crying.

But maybe i will feel different when my baby comes. I guess we won't know until then:shrug:

Aww thats not nice, poor little mite :(

Why would you do that, i have a pretty strange sense of humour but i dont find making a little baby cry for whatever reason funny

Some people have a very odd sense of humour. Bit like the woman putting the cat in the bin. Why would anyone get enjoyment our of the misery of another living thing? Most peculiar to my way of thinking

I must be one of those odd people because baby crying to the "Michigan fight song" was hilarious to me... :haha:

Maybe its an american thing...
No, I think it's a you thing, not an American thing.

Anyone deliberately making my baby cry, is looking for an ass kicking. I don't care what your dictionary definition of distress is, being forced to being subjected to something you don't like is distressing, especially for a baby who not only can't communicate their dislike or distress, but also can't remove themselves from it.

dramafreemama if you were scared of spiders would it be funny if i shoved one in your face? I think not!

just tell her to pack it in  my little brother dangles my mobile infront of Laila knowing full well that when he doesn't give her it, she'll kick off.. he finds it highly amusing, so did i the first time he did it.. but now i tell him to stop it  easy!

Doesn't seem funny to me. I'd tell them to pack it in.

My oh sings the smallville song because he knows it will make lo cry!!

I think it's mean, but you can tell them to stop it, if you don't like it!

Nope, that didn't make me laugh. Crying is a negative emotion and if I had a song that I played unintentionally that made baby cry I'd stop playing it! Maybe the song is too loud for her.

As for the mother in law of the OP, I'd say, Don't make him/her cry on a purpose, that's awful.' I'd just make it clear I wasn't happy. If my mom or dad did it, I'd say awww the first time, I wouldn't be upset at the once, but I wouldn't be happy if ppl did it time and again.
