Worrying about being a mum...

you're not alone! like some of the others have said, its just scary cos you know you have to get on with it and cant give baby back to someone else. i have a large extended family, a 10 mth old niece who I have for overnight stays, and generally loads of experience with other peoples babies. but with 2 wks left til i have my own am totally panicking!!

i think its cos if you look after someone elses, and say, put the nappy on wrong, you know its only that one nappy. their own mummy or daddy can sort it! but if its your own- you realise thats your job. if that makes sense.

im sure we will all be fab!

I wonder if there are any videos on youtube?
Examples of holding, changing, bathing etc??

It might sound crazy, but I know I've seen ones on 'how to get the best creases in your trousers' and 'how to fold a tshirt perfectly' (strangely quite interesting ;) )

I bet there's some helpful vids on there :)

How to sponge bath a newborn: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAc7Q5r-hus

Hope these are helpful...can't watch them at work but they look reasonable.

There really is anything on youtube isn't there!!

Fab videos, Aimee-lou!

I am similar to you, not much experience of kids, like to know stuff.

We've bought a couple of books and I'm going to classes, but reading a book now is very different to what it's going to actually be like. So I'm reading little bits here and there, and reading the same bits several times, so hopefully some of it will sink in.

Of course, I'm certain I won't be able to realte much of what I'm reading to what actually happens, but i do think it'll make me more confident.

I know how you are feeling. I'm terrified I won't know what to do with the baby once it is born.. Furthermore, I'm really worried I will do something wrong whilst I'm pregnant and hurt the little one...

Help! Are there any good books I should be reading?

OMG - I am glad for this post. I have had my doubts that I will become maternal once the baby is born. My family will be in absolute shock when they find out as they have never thought I would ever have kids. I will prob have to show an U/S pic to prove it! I also have no family less than 6h drive away - so I am EXTREMELY worried that I'll be terrible at the mothering gig! I am going to take classes / read books / google like crazy to get info!!!

Thanks for all the great comments - it is good to know other people felt the same way!
