Would you hire a wet nurse?

If you use donated milk how does the baby get the antibodies from the first milk bit (sorry iv drawn a blank what its called) I thought that only came out the first bit of feeding and then the milk followed, if its just donated milk do they still get that?

Breastfeeding is a dynamic process. Your body changes the milk every time you feed. Your body can sense minute changes in your babies temperature and change the milk based on that. More foremilk when it's hot out, etc. I would imagine any wet nurse would go through a screening process, but nursing directly would be more beneficial than EBM because it would be perfectly catered to your baby's current needs. Also, as soon as you express milk it starts to break down, so fresh (direct) milk is better than EBM. And EBM from any (non diseased, non drug using --Did I miss anything?) source is better than formula.

Edited for the lawyers out there.

Absolutely, if I was incapable of doing it myself and could afford it. It would be difficult to see him nurse from another woman, but that's my problem to deal with and i wouldn't deny him the best chance I was capable of offering him nutritionally as far as meeting his feeding needs.

Obviously expressing and bottle feeding would be an option as well, but just like me nursing him, it's the signals exchanged between his mouth and my breast that trigger what my body needs to produce to best feed and protect him.

That I wouldnt quite agree with, id rather my baby had formula then milk from a crack head alcoholic.

I hardly think the average crack head alcoholic is going to donating milk, do you?

 Now that's just being pedantic. Does she really need to qualify that she means EBM from a healthy non-substance using woman?

To be fair, i wouldn't want to give my baby formula made up by a crack head either!

Def not. I don't think I could let another women feed my child like that. My LO is bottlefed and until i went back to work 2 weeks ago no one fed her but me. I also don't agree with anyone's breastmilk is better than formula :nope:

To be faire, i wouldn't wasn't to give my baby formula made up by a crack head either!

Perfectly put!

Im not going to start anything here just dont think its fair to put any source if you dont mean any source.

It kind of looked to me like you were just trying to disagree for the sake of it.

Oh please. We're all mommies who obviously love our children and want the best for them. But I guess everything is going to get taken literally for the sake of stirring things up a bit? Insert eye roll here.

I'd swap nursing duties with my sisters (although they don't have any children and I don't think they would feel the same way). If I couldn't BF then I would find it too upsetting to watch another woman feed my baby.

In all fairness though, if you make a statement like "And EBM from any source is better than formula" then you should expect to be challenged, and shouldn't mock people when they challenge that statement. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I disagree, it was very clear what Seity meant and challenging her seemed a pointless thing to do.

It is just ridiculous to state that you don't want your baby getting cracked out or alcoholic EBM! Of course not! That is kind of a "duh" statement in my eyes, and even at that, it doesn't need to be made! I seriously think that Seity was excluding cracked out and alcoholic EBM. ;)

I don't think it was pointless. I think it had a very clear point.. that being, that she would rather feed her baby formula than give her baby breastmilk from "any source".

She challenged her as she didn't believe her statement was correct. You would do the same if someone had said something you didn't believe to be true  Its not starting an argument.

Well she didn't say she was excluding them. She said 'ANY SOURCE' so to me that means any.
