Just a question. I know someone whos baby is a week older than mine and she has just said she's crawling already......is this even possible? My baby cant even roll yet.

Maybe, but I doubt it. She might be belly crawling, but I don't think they have the strength at that age to hold their bodies up.

apprantly this baby is crawling on all fours. Just kinda made me worry cos mine can't even roll yet.

when i look up websites on a 4month olds development it does say your lo could be crawling at this age and it goes on to talk about home safety. theres noway my baby would be crawling! he can only just do a little push up hehe xx

My LO is 4 months old today and she certainly tries to crawl...its more commando-like right now though...she can't sit up on her own so I don't think crawling will work just yet...pretty sure once she masters sitting up she will get the hang of crawling...but babies develop at their own pace...don't worry about it!

Mine absoloutely hates tummy time, so I don't think he's ever gonna crawl!! :dohh:

A few of mine have crawled at this age, with the earliest walker being 8 1/2 months. What I have noticed is that it is my smaller framed children that are quickest on their feet, I suppose because they have less to carry! Not being mean but is the child you mention Op quite a scrawny looking child???

lol yes it is! mine did but he was rolling at 3months , everything came so fast with him. He is ahead in everything , I blame cat chasing.. hehe i dont care what milestones my baby hits and when, but the people do! we get evils all the time lol

Our LO crawled once a couple of weeks ago, on all fours, but he hasn't done it since. So yes, it is possible.

Mine is just 2.5 months and crawls on her belly with just a little support from us.

Mine crawled at 5 months, she could also stand holding onto furniture at 4 months.

She could hold her head up from birth and roll both ways confidently by about 5 weeks old.

She was also a tummy/side sleeper though which I think puts babies a bit ahead of back sleeping (which should always be done for SIDS guidelines).

It doesn't mean they are crazily ahead though if they start young though. My LO has only just started walking confidently at 13 months and only has 5 words and is about average in terms of her development compared to others.

My LO "body pops" along when he wants something, like he is doing the worm! :haha: Not actual crawling yet and 4.5mths is veeeeeeery early imo

my lo does something similar to others - the commando crawl lol bless! - do not compare your child to other peoples because 1. more than often there is an exageration especially if its from a person who know a person who has a child who blah blah blah lol

my boy he rolled early-ish just shy of 4 months, could hold his head up by himself within a couple of days so we thought wow he is going to be an early walker etc etc, nope, he didnt walk until he was 20months old, he could do it just didnt want to, he said his first word at 9 months so again we thought he would be a really good talker nope he literally learnt mumma, dadda, no, hair and nanna and that was it until he turned two when he picked up maybe 20 more words between 2 - 2 1/2 we were thinking of going to go to a speech therapist but all of a sudden a couple of moths back he started talking really really well he is now ahead on all aspects of language, amount of words, pronounciation and amount of words in a sentance, now he looks like he is mega ahead

all kids hit milestones at different times and although i know just how hard it is when you can see people's babies and children streaming ahead of yours do not compare because your lo might all of a sudden zoom past them!

my mantra was i am not worried, i know he can talk/walk he is just lazy and what 30 able year old has their mum come to work to translate their babble and their dad carrying them around the office? none!

My baby has just popped to the shop and bought his first packet of sweets (ha ha!)

Seriously, I do wonder whether people are being a little 'economical' with the truth. I am not sure how a baby crawls on their belly? Does it not require hands and feet? I suppose it depends on what you use as a definition of crawling. I would not class my baby as crawling unless he was using his hands and knees/feet to get about. Otherwise I would call it shuffling along!

I just think there are a lot of competitive mums out there!

My LO tries to sit, nothing else, no rolling, crawling or shuffling. All he's interested in is sitting which he can do with a bit of support and being held above the floor with his feet touching, he takes steps and gets all excited, can obviously nowhere near do it alone but I feel as though he may skip crawling altogether, he hates tummy time for a start :haha: it's not unheard of but tbh 4 months crawling, probably quite rare, doesn't mean that baby is going to race ahead with milestones in any manner. Some babies never crawl.

My 3rd child could combat crawl at 41/2 months. He was born on 30th July 2003 and on Christmas day 2003 we videoed him crawling properly at just short of 5 months. He walked early too, he took his first unaided steps at 7 months and was walking properly at 8 months. Nobody believed us. We literally had to let him walk or crawl just to 'prove' he was. My 5th child combat crawled early too, I posted on here when he was just short of 5 months that he had managed to get out of the lounge into the hallway! He crawled properly at 6 months and walked at 9. My eldest never crawled and didn't walk till nearly 19 months. Total extremes lol. They all do it in their own time, tis a journey not a race.
